Hi Jesper, In answer to your question, Yes i did use MIG's Pigments on both shermans for that weathered look. I normally would use an airbrush as well but didn't use one this time.
Thanks for great comments.

Cheers Ross

Thanks for the reply, Ross. I normally use Tamiya pigments/pastels. Maybe I should try the MiG range.

well, i am most likely not going to make the due date on this one since i only have a few evenings left before going on holiday for the long weekend, but i figured i'd (finally) post my progress.

I'm way behind because of too much work and waiting many weeks for Formations to deliver the resin (and other campaigns).

I am putting a Formations turret (low bustle with cheek armor applique) with an eduard aluminum barrel on the Italeri M4A1 hull that i texturized with a dremmel bit and sandpaper:

she should come together pretty rapidly at this point, and i may be able to get paint on her before i leave, but doubt i can get markings or weathering done in time.

If only i wasn't going on vacation with my girlfriend this weekend!

(no one else has hinted at an extension yet, have they?)

hey guys
bit of a disapointment here.. for my sherman build
as of my house having trouble being sold my mum decided to decorate
the rooms so my models that were on my side shelves had to be packed but my brother did it ( i was away ) with out asking me where and how to put them away for storage.. but he managed to stand on it as he ran for the phone and broke it snapping it in half allthe way
so im having to count my self out of the campaign as i cant repair the work my modeling tools are stored away so am stuck ther aswell

Update shots....only a few items left for the sherman itself, such as radio aerials. Im not going to have figures done in time for the campain closure, but the sherman itself is done, along with the base.

used sanded tile grout, Mig pigments and such for weathering. Grass is from either Noch or Faller in the model railroad range...cut into irregular patches and glued down, then a mix of sanded tile grout, celuclay, glue, sand, tea leaves and some static grass made up a final ground cover. A bit of drybrushing finished off the grass and such.

Tarp is a tea bag (left from getting the above tea leaves!),which I think worked better than the traditional tissue, as it has nice texture, doesnt fall apart, and is pretty sturdy.

comments welcome.....

now the sherman bug has caught...whats next? M50, or a M32, or a israeli M4A1 76mm, or the M4A2, or a M4A3 76mm, or maybe a M4A3 with dozer.....

Andy,
Great looking build, I have built this kit and mine does not compare. Could you please tell me what color green you used and technique for streaks. My ONLY real problem with American armor is getting the right shade of green (and the darn Sherman tracks)
Thank you so much

@Vance: was it easier to texture the hull with the dremel and sandpaper than using Mr. 500 with extra liquid glue?

@Andy: very nice build and dio, the weathering and the whole effect of the dio tells a story.

I'm sorry to hear some of you having problems, especially you Tony.

Andrzej, I'm glad you enjoyed the campaign. I'm not sure yet what will be next as I enlisted to few other campaigns I have to complete.

I prefer adding cast texture with a dremel, but there are of course pitfalls with either technique.

I put a medium-small round metal grinding bit in the chuck and just bounce it randomly along the hull at slow rpms. you just have to be careful with edges mainly. taking some 360 wet or dry sandpaper to it afterwards smooths it down.

the mr surfacer method works fine of course, but is does add a lot of chemicals to the air your are breathing. Also, It gives a more uniform texture. I think the randomness of the dremel method is a little more accurate, but that is just my opinion.

Hi,

My humble submission: A Sherman from Battle of the Bulge, OOB.
Still in progress, next: Washes, dry coat, dry brushing and pigment treatment. Hope I can make the dateline, thank you for looking!

cheers!

Initial problem during assembly, the upper hull and lower hull seems to have a fit issue, resolved with stylene strip.

Dun think the photos were able to show the different shade of colors applied.. my first attempt.

The MG, painted the ammo box using different shade of Olive Drab. The masking tapes on the periscope will only be removed after the dry cote.

Lower Hull..

Close look at the turret, MG, and tools mounted.

Tracks painted and applied clear coat!

Ok, well, here is where i am at now:

complete with headless commander.

running gear is on (which was no small feat actually, but i'll skip the gory details for now and just sum up with "missing parts from a second hand kit"). I am using salvaged drive sprockets from an old Tamiya M4A3 that I retired.

well, I have only tomorrow night left before my girlfriend shows up (long distance relationship) and we head out for our trip, so clearly I am not going to finish in time.

I recon it's time to surrender...
I won't be able to make it in time, this is how my Sherman is looking at the moment.
