Thanks Ron! Was a big help. Pretty much finished the interior of it now. I was originally going to have it with a crew but I just can't get anyone to fit in it...LOL. I've tried reworking about 3 figures and gave up as they all went horribly wrong, so I'm going to have it knocked out with the crew bailing out. I've dug out some old Jerries which I'm going to strip the paint off and start again so gave me an excuse to join your campaign as well as I need to start building some Germans. I'd better get some more Mr Muscle

hello everyone
decided to join the campaign today. Will be doing a little dio where jeep with a crew of two found some supplies.
jeep is a tamiya kit converted into airborne jeep with evergreen plastic rods, wires and spare box parts. figs are dragon sas set. the tabacco is being build using thick paper, balsa wood, soldering wire and spare box treasures.
hope this will make me finish my first dio. seen some pretty amazing stuff here guys, great inspiration. good work
thanks

Hi Pav,
Nice work on the jeep, comments as before. If you are using the DML SAS as Paras then I would suggets you give them standard kit. Only two real things to note the hooded jacket was not issued to the paras and these chaps have putties rather than anklets but they will work in the para role.
I still ahve the 75mm pack to build and an Airborne Carrier, got a bit side tracked in some figguer builds.

hi
thanks Ron. Just a question. What would dutch tabacco have on the front above the shopping window. thanks
hi Alan. thanks for all your comments. They just push me to do things better and more accuretly. I can live with the boots and I dont think I could somehow change the hood on the figure so I am just going to change the figure for the kneeling one from the dragon sas set. It looks like that one is wearing the same smock as the more correct one i was going to use now. Would these guys be using all the pouches and entrenching tools or would this all be stashed on the vehicles? thanks again for the help.
need to scratchbuild some airborne containers any ideas?
thanks

Hi Pav,
Yes I used a couple and ignored the putties. Kit would have been standard webbing but you can get away with skeleton order if you like.
I will have a look, I think you might be able to us ethe chap with the hood as one of the Dutch recce soldiers who were attached to the units. I'll check a few references later.
If I remember correctlt the smocks they are wearing are the later type but again I'll check later for you.

Hi Pavel,
I don't know if what a street tobaccoshop in those days would look like, but if you use a googlesearch for "krantenkiosk" or "kiosk" you will find out.
Tobacco = tabak
newspapers = kranten

Hi Pavel,
The smocks are the later kind without the sock cuff. I filed off/dumped the hood and made a collar from milliput. The putties you could alter fairly easily to anklets, although I didn't bother.
The Mk V Sten was issued to the Airborne units but the Mk II was also issued to supporting troops so either is possible.
Entrenching tools were common, but leaving them off is not a problem. Most troops would have carried full battle order until engaged or dug in. Webbing would have been worn as standard infantry batttle order, so any mix of that would be OK. I would loose the small ammo pouches on the rear of the belts and the longish knife. You could have officers with pistol holsters and pouches or add 37 ammo pouches from your stash.
Water bottles and the short stabbing bayonet for the No 4 Rifle would have been stanard, don't use the .45 Thompson.
On containers, Resicast do a neat set and there are two in the Tristar Welbi8ke set. The SAS guys have good poses but their kit is slightly later than that used at Arnhem.
If you are using them as part of a Recce team then skeleton battle order would probably be appropriate.

hi
made some progress on the tabacco kiosk. It still need some work done. Cut the hood of one of the figs and replaced it with a tin foil. will have to repaint the whole thing. addedsome equipment too - entrenching tools and waterbottles.
i got back to the building in november last year after two years travelling so this is all i have to work with. As i might be going away for another year i dont want to buy much stuff. But treated myself to first real paintbrushes - creative models kolinsky red sable and they are so nice to paint with i dont even want to use them in fear of ruining them . And as you can se in my last pic my stash is not very big either. just bought the humber and cant wait to get into it. will finish this dio first though.
thanks

Hi Pavel, I see your Dutch has improved overnight!
You're going good, but I don't know about the kioskcolours. They are very loud and not-Dutch. Maybe you should try an offwhite for the building and a dark blue for the windows. The panels next to the windows, what are those? Something like louvredoors?
You could try to make those as simple wooden shutters and do them in blue too.
Just a thought.
Keep it up!

Hi Guys, This is for everyone who has posted on this campaign. The work I have seen has been outstanding. I'm stuck at work do to the fact I'm the only one who could get through the snow storm we had. This has given me the time to read all 13 pages of this campaign. You guys have really inspired me to get back at it. As much as I have been inspired, I also must admit I'm a little intimidated by the skill you guys have, but I guess that comes w/ practice. I'll be following your campaign and looking forward to more updates....Happy Modelling,Vince

Hi Pavel,
The smock was worn over the full BD and yes folks would have taken their smock off depending on where they were and what they were doing. There are pictures of the Airborne Medics at Arnhem in BD and in some cases stripped down to their shirts.
Cheers

I think this campaign is all but dead.....
Haven't seen any updates, except yours Alan, nor have I seen our campaignleader.
Sent him a pm early this year about a ribbon, which isn't there either, but he hasn't even read it.
I guess it's a case of another campaignleader disappearing??
The rest of the fellowcampaigners look like they did, too...
Too bad, it started out as a very promissing campaign...

Hi Ron,
I hope they are all beavering away, I've been looking forward to some updates on what folks are up to. I have 5 paras half started so with a few days off I hope to get a bit more done on them and an erected bike done. But yes, it may have crashed and burned.

Karl,
New to this sight and semi new to modeling.I finally read some of this campaign tread. Is it to late in the game to get in on it. I have Dragons Red Devils at Arnhem 1944, that i was gonna put in a fighting position behind Italeri House corner. Would that qualify. As long as my job keeps me out sick I should be able to get it finished by the dead line.

In Karl's absence and given the time extension I'd say go ahead, it's never too late to join.
Look forward to the build.
