Well Troops,
Next up in the breach is a Canadian Leo C2 MEXAS.
I will be using the venerable Revell Leopard 1A5 as the base kit, the MLM C2 conversion #1010 , the MLM C2A1 Mexas conversion, and HKCW Leopard 1 tracks.
Let the games begin!
cheers

Today's installment.
Have the suspension all installed and almost finished with the sprockets. When I glue the sprocket halves together I like to wrap the tracks around them as the set to make sure that the sprocket teeth are aligned, miss guided teeth is just bad mojo.
As most of the Afghan C2A1's drive sprocket seem to be lacking the guide ring I have decided to remove them.
I just snug them down in a cordless drill and use a chisel blade to remove the ring, similar to a wood lathe.
Then a little putty and back in the drill for the finish sanding.
I also started on the upper hull with the removal of the front fenders. I just hacked at them with a pair of diagonal cutters.
And finished them with an automotive or machinist file. Once the upper and lower hulls are affixed I will have to fill in any gaps with some strip sterene.
And if you really can't wait for me to finish you can see a complete build-up on the Modern Canadian Vehicles web site with a build by Jim Carswell.

was the LHS all out of big files?
Nice to see another blog on this subject. Between you & Jim, I reckon most of the pitfalls will be identified before I tackle this one.
You doing the 'thermal blankie' option?

What are you laughing at? I've got one sitting right in front of me for removing tough excess resin blocks... It's a fine tool for quick removal of useless plastic or resin, you'll need to learn how to apply emergency breaks of course...

Rick,
It will be interesting to see a Leopard C2 done up with the thermal blankets...do you have an idea of what you might use for the material...lead foil perhaps?...if you actually decided to go throught with it that is...I'm just getting started on my C2 (MEXAS) build...it will be good to have someone else to bounce ideas off of...happy building!
Cheers,
Duncan

Hello guys,
I'm assume you're refering to the camouflage netting? If so, maybe you could wait a little bit longer.... I was expecting some test samples done and sent to me earlier, but as it seems Mr Murphy paid a visit to my contractor so things are delayed for a while. Hoping he will get it back to speed and get my samples done soon. If it works (fingers crossed), our woes for modern nets will be solved... Expect around 40 + sets available worldwide in the first round, more sets will be done subsequently, that's provided the tests works... Now I don't really want to get all your hopes up, it may not or may fail again this time round (like the first time). Getting this netting of ours done commercially viable is taking much of my time and research effort... may the gods of modelling give us grace and blessing this time!
Cheers,
Lawrence

Hey Duncan,
The C2 leo's use a plain flat blanket, not the Barracuda cam HTR (Heat Transfer Reduction) panels that the Leo 2A6's use.
Now if you could also produce the C2 thermal blankets that would be nice.

Whenever I get around to my next C2 it will have the dozer and blankets. I was thinking of going with epoxy putty (Apoxiesculpt or Magicsculp are my faves). The thermal blankets are thick enough that I think you could get away with using rolled-out epoxy putty. Plus you can sculpt in all the details like stitching and eyelets. Here's a couple pics Larry:

Duncan,
Thanks, LOL. Rick, I think that's more of a job for the head honcho at MLM. A suggestion, cast a full turret fitted with all the mexas and other exposed bits with all the blankets on. It's gonna be heavy resin but a time saver for all... I've tried to figure this out, but still come up blank... I need to put the request in my head, give it a little stir and let it ferment for a long while.
...lemme get this straight... you are going to dump the turret markings and go for the blankets???...
Just kidding of course, I know they can appear elsewhere too.
Jim, thanks for the images - I'm now unconfused.

LOL, ya I know the blankets cover up all the detail and markings, this can be good or bad, depending how well the construction goes
I have also seen pics of pieces of the blankets missing and ripped, so there are ways of showing some of the detail.

I'm eager to do the blanket I've never seen anything like it in armour modeling and the 2 oppisite colors is going to look cool. I'm thinking foil of some type.
I keep those same chanal locks close by the bench aswell.

The blankets are only thick at the ends were the edge's are exposed to help with the magnets to hold them onto the armour. They had a brown plastic mesh on the opposite side, with velcro to attach the parts together on the turret front near the MBGD's up front. Yup, those photos are of 13B dozer , A Squadron LdSh (RC) .
