Matt-
the FlakPanther will make a great companion piece for you KonigsStugPanther.
I just have one observation. With the engine forward- it seems as though it would be possible to recess the Flak gun mount in the hull. Are you mounting it on top or cutting a hole and lowering it down inside the superstructure a little?Nice work so far!
Steve
Thanks for the kudos. I hadn't thought about recessing it, only to mount it above. I will probably add some skirting around it ala, Mobelwagen / Ostwind style....or I may just cut things out and drop her inside. Hmmm. Good question. I'll give that some thought.
There is plenty of room no doubt. The areas along the sides could be turned into ammo lockers/stowage bins or, ......yeah. I can see a few possibilities. Thanks for sparking that little bit of headscratching.
Back soon with some updates. "Q"

Matt your Flakpanther type job is looking great, I must admit when i first saw it with the large box like structure at the back I could imagine it as a panther based APC
but it's looking fantastic.
Sorry for the lack of updates, finally got around to uploading some new pictures of the build, nearing completion now, just some fine details to add and tweaking here and there really.
Side view:
Turret Escape hatch:
the gun and mantlet is just blu-tacked on at the moment, so it may look a little off in the pictures. All in all pleased with how its coming together.
Look forward to your comments and ideas.
Thanks

haha sorry andrew
thanks a lot
its taken a fair amount of trial and error but I'm liking how its panning out, and your cromwell-thingy as you call it is looking amazing, a very worthy opposition for the tiger
haha
out of curiosity, how did you build the turret? did you create some kind of plasticard structure then putty and sand? or a different way entirely?

i built a plasticard shape and covered it with car body filler
then i sanded it smooth and dabed superglue on it to get the texture

Thanks John. The flak kit is from Dragon. #6353. Cost is about $20 US and it comes with a lot of PE for the gun. I just haven't put it all on as yet. Planning on adding as much as I can today before I have to leave for work. Thanks again, "Q"

Thanks for the kudos guys. I ran into a snag this afternoon. I soldered up the PE shields and just looking at the gun, the shields will foul on the sides when the gun is traversed. I'll just add some supports under the the stanchions to raise it enough to clear the sides. It will still retain the recessed area for the gun crew so it should still look the part when all is said and done. More to follow. Thanks, "Q"

Matt Q-
FlakPanther is looking awesome- bummer about the shield striking the upper hull plate!
I was thinking as I looked at it...... IF you cut the "outrigger" arms off the gun mount (basically leaving a circular deck beneath the gun) could you get a 360 degree rotation without hitting the shield?
It looks as if the axis of rotation is further forward than it might be because of the outrigger arm that is pointing rearward.
The gun by the way looks phenomenal! What a cool kit!
Andrew- yours needs a paint job! Otherwise it is perfect IMHO.- Awesome Job!

Thanks for the kudos Steve. I was going to post some pics of how I corrected the problem and some other work I did to it, but Photobucket seems to be down at the moment as I can't upload anything
The gun is complete, to include the other Vampire nightsight I had laying here. Looks really busy
Once painted and the power cables etc. are added, it should really stand out. I scratch built the ammo trailer for it using the kit supplied one as a platform to go off of. I'm happy with it but will add some more little items to help spice it up as well. Once Photobucket comes back up, I'll post the pics. Thanks, "Q"

Matt-
that is sincerely one cool "What-If". I am looking forward to getting back to work on mine. I hope you, Andrew, Dan, Matt K, Neil etc. keep checking this thread when your builds are done so I can pick your brains or my build.
Great Work!

Steve,
Once again thanks for the kudos, glad you like the build. I tried Photobucket again this evening and it is still down. Not sure what the problem is. I will keep tabs on the thread and will definitely post pics of mine as I go and once it is completed. Now if only PB would come back up I could share some progress pics.

Matt, thats looking fantastic, can't wait to see it painted
got any figures/ or a dio planned to go along with it?
Steve, I'll be keeping up with this thread for sure, got a few other "what-ifs" planned and started, a Jagdtiger II and something revolving around a Pershing, possibly even a pershing/early patton tank hybrid type as if the war had gone on till the early 50's, might be a stretch though.

As a matter of fact I do have a dio planned for it. Still gathering items for it as I go. I was only able to get one pic to load thru photobucket. It keeps timing out for some reason, so this one will have to do. Sorry. Thanks again guys. "Q"
