P.A.:

This might help with mounting your flak to the flat bed. It's a Revell skdfz 10/5 w/ 2cm flak in 1/35th, so if you trust their research, I think this could work well for you. With your skill, you should be able to put it together pretty easily, and I'd expect an exact replica

Started work on Tamiyas old M42 Duster kit. First step is to remove a lot of stuff to replace it with PE. If I ever needed a reason to get me some power tools, now I have it.

Oh AFV, would you bring me an M42...

Hey folks, joined a few weeks ago and finally got something together to show. Been busy with LIFE as well... funny how it cuts into modeling time!

Anyways, here is my entry so far: Tamiya M16... I know, old as sin, but it's a fun little kit and was dirt cheap!

I'm testing out some new painting and weathering techniques with this one. It's kind of a crash test dummy. The Tamiya Color acrylics did not go on smooth; even though it had been thinned out. I don't know what it is with that stuff, but it seems like every other pot reacts differently than the ones before it. I need to figure out a way to blend those thick brush marks out. Any ideas?

@ Mike : From the pics the brushmarks don't look so intense. I guess that they will blend naturally after completing the weathering process especially if you apply oil dit filters.

Great looking AA truck, PA. Nice heavy weathering. It has definitely seen some heavy abuse.

It will be nice the follow your build, Meier. I have wanted to build that kit for a long time. It will be interesting to see what you get from that oldie.

Mike, nice progress on the M16. I never ever use Tamiya paints with a brush. They just do not work with brushes. They spray perfectly, but almost always lift with the secodn brush stroke. I think your M16 will look fine after weathering, you did a good job on the basecoat.

Here is my finished entry for this campaign. The 1/35 Italeri SWS with 37mm Flak. It is a beast of a half track, but has a nice brutal look to it. I will incorporate it into a diorama later. That is why I did the heavy mudded look to the SWS.

Comments welcome

Hi Mike,

Tamiya acryllic paints only like Tamiya thinner and they HATE mixing with anything (paint, thinners etc.) from any other company. May be a profit thing I suppose... For brush painting with Tamiya paints you just got to have Tamiya thinner but practice different paint/thinner ratios on an old model from your stash until you are happy with the mix. To be safe practice different ratio's with each new colour you introduce.

Heavy weathering, though, hides a multitude of sins!

Eoin

Thanks a lot, PA. I might have made some of the leaves and grass a little overscale.

Very nice base you are making. Looking forward to see it finished with the Horch in place.

Still a long way to Khe Shan:

Tamiyas old Duster with most of the removal done. I currently debate with myself what to scratchbuild (i.e the casing chutes and replacement barrel stuff) and what to replace/remove (Vietnam dusters sometimes used no muzzle breaks)

Great build, PA. It looks outtanding - both the Horch and the diorama !

Nice progress, Meier. Quite a lot of the Dusters in Vietnam had the flash suppressors removed so I think that is a viable way to go. What is your impression of the kit so far? Is the fit OK?

Looking forward to see more.

The Duster is "Typically Tamiya". Except for the motorisation and the removed parts there was no filling needed so far. Little flash, good fit. This makes the lack of detail even more sad since the basics are great. Tracks are old rubber band style but with the tank in a revetment I won't go for AFV clubs tracks or running gear. Otherwise at least the tracks are recommended

Armed with Squadrons Walkaround:

+ Scratchbuild the seats for the gunners
+ Scratchbuild the folding seats for the loaders
+ Build a new holder for the MG pintle turret rear
+ Build some minor detail on the turret rear/interior

and some more stuff from this buildlog. I will not work on the running gear and use a different muzzle style but quite a few other ideas sound good. I will not have to build the "german" details

Armed with nothing but the Italeri instructions...

Here is my 1/35 Crusader AA Tank just after its first overhaul after landing at Normandy.. Hence it is nice and clean, still wet after its final wash.. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Keep up the great work guys and gals.

ok finally got around to starting this campaign, just finished the panzer iv one called "the workhorse", and with a new baby on the scene its been kind of busy..
so here goes, i am building the cyber-hobby panzer iv H with the flak 88 on it, i decided to change out the rollers as one of the pictures i have from Panzerwrecks looks to me as if it has all metal one's, but hey thats the fun with building these one off units as anything really goes as we have no real records of what exact components where used..
