Hi folks,
I just got a Tamiya 1/35 Gepard. A cold war animal built on the Leopard 1 hull... But first I have to finish a shed load of other kits!
Eoin
I have this kit as well, but am aware of it's inaccuracy issues. I was wondering if you had any insight on AM products or anything that would help out?

Feels like I have been waiting forever for this 1 to start. The Sd.Kfz7/1 has been calling to me Built a Mini-Art house, overhauled a Stug IV and did some more work on an incomplete Opel Blitz while waiting and now I working on the Change Those Troops Campaign and its been nice out too. What will I do when the cold sets in, oh wait there are like a dozen campaigns starting this winter You guys got me addicted to plastic

I'll be doing the Mastrerpiece models Flak Sled that sits on the Tamiya Opel kit. I'll mount either the old Dragon Flak 38, or maybe the new AFV 4x2cm if it fits.
Here's a link to the sled

Hi Everyone,
I'm going to go with one of these two kits. I ordered both and will decide once I get my hands on them. This Campaign works out great for me as I just finished up my entry for the Sherman Campaign. Not sure if I will build OOB or include some aftermarket stuff
1:35 Dragon SdKfz 251/21 Ausf D Schutzenpanzerwagen - Drilling MG 151 w/ Bonus Features #6217
1:35 Dragon SdKfz161/4 2cm Flakpanzer IV "Wirbelwind" ~ Smart Kit #6540

Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to this campaign. My skill level seems to increase with each new model since getting back in to the hobby after more years then I care to mention!! I have build four kits that I am happy with. A few more sit waiting for me to come back to them when I feel up to tackling their problems.
Kits should be here next week and I will decide which one to enter!

I didn't realie I signed up for this one, I'm kinda jazzed I did. I have the Italeri Crusader w/ Verlinden AA turret and the ESCI Sdkfz 10/4 w/ Flak 30. I will probably go with the ESCI kit , but most likely upgrade the gun and crew ( I already have a dio planned for this one, just need time).

Hi,
I signed up. Is a field conversion ok? I've chosen an URAL 4320 with a mounted ZSU-23-2 Gun. Otherwise I would chose a SA-6
Regards
Sven

Hi Sven,
Feild conversions are just fine, as long as its self propelled and designed to shoot down aircraft!
looking forward to seeing what you do.

The Campaign Gallery has been created.
Targets Shoot Back
I will also rename this thread to match the campaign name. I should have done that a long time ago.

Hi
Does the primary function have to be AA as many AA guns were/ are mounted on the back of trucks for use in ground fighting such as used in Lebanon Somalia etc.
Therefore would a zu-23 or similar mounted on the back of a pickup or truck be acceptable.

I think you just hit a gray area there Peter. I believe the intended design of this campaign is to focus on SPAA intended for AA use. However what you are talking about sounds like a field conversion that was popular for AA guns, such as what the Germans and Soviets commonly practiced with trucks and tractors in WWII, which are allowed in this campaign.

Ok, I have decided the 1:35 Dragon SdKfz 251/21 Ausf D Schutzenpanzerwagen - Drilling MG 151 w/ Bonus Features #6217 as my build. So that leads me to another question. Are there any PE or Barrel available upgrades for this kit. I have searched and found many for different varients. Not sure what would apply.

Mike: Nice choice, and I believe that there is an AM gun set specifically for that vehicle. I'm wanting to say it was ABER or Lionroar, but I'm not certain...

Hey Peter,
You bring up a great point.... OK, im not going to get all anal here about it. Reading my own "requirements" for the campaign, it says it has to mount a gun that was "designed" to shoot down aircraft.
A quad 50, or a zu-23 was designed with AA in mind, so regardless of what it ended up being used for, then its fine---as long as it still could elevate to engage aircraft if it wanted....anotherwords, a hard mounted 2cm Flak with its sole use as a AT gun, and no longer can be used as AA is NOT good. A quad 50 in the back of a Nam era gun truck is fine by me (still a unmodified quad 50). Even the quad 50 Half tracks in Korea were used mainly as ground support.
I think its only natural that most mounted SPAA ended up being used in ground support during the "off hours" of its primary purpose....and if there are no aircraft around , then of course it gets used for more ground targets than air...so im not going to hold that against anybody!

Jeremy,
I looked at both sites and was confused over what might be appropriate for this kit. I saw some pe for upgrading the storage doors and maybe the guns. Just unsure what is appropriate for this variant.
