Dave, nice job on the jeep.
1. how did you do your tools (paint / weather / use)
2. I like the rust on the frame.

Bob

Hello again Bob!
For the tools (shovel, axe, browning) i started with a black undercoat, followed by X-10 Gunmetal and a silver drybrush for the metal. The wood was achieved by combining a color from citadel called bestial brown, some pueblo red , regular brown and a hint of white. Then the whole thing got a wash of black/brown mix (about 60:40) then a drybrushing of khaki (xf-49) whit a tint of brown to darken it, finally the wood got a wash called flesh wash (also from citadel) as its a reddish brown.
Same thing for the rust just more red less brown no khaki .
The pastels added to the tools overall look as i brushed a lighter brown over the handles for a bit more depth. light green and brown were used for the ammo box on the browning which i am going to also repaint the grip a wood color.

Anymore questions feel free to ask, i sometimes forget exactly what i use for colors as i tend to wing it,..lol

Glad you enjoyed it!

everybody,
As a very recent member I have only just stumbled across this campaign and would like to join the fray with the GAZ-AA I started work on over X-mas. After a 30odd year hiatus I bought this kit as 'a nice, easy' reintroduction to modelling - those of you who know the zvezda kit will have a giggle at this thought. As I don't want to traumatise the younger members, lets just say there was plenty of and and some involved. The kit has already come 'this close' to being introduced to the wall several times!
Originally I intended to just build it OOB, but due to the 'quality' of the kit the result would not have justified the effort. So, despite my wallet screaming in protest, I've added wheels from miniart and am planning to add some interest to the cargo bed by fitting the Maxim M-4 from plus model, as well as scratching a seat/ammo box.
I apologise for the quality of the pictures, but they'll give you a rough idea.

Airfix Bedord QLD & QLT completed. A long time since I've done braille scale and I'm not that happy with the results, but what the hell - they're done!

Noli: Jump in!! I was late to this one too. The campaign ends in October, so you still have 8 months to finish.

I don't think the 251 qualifies for this campaign as it was armored.

Hi guys,

an update on the Tatra. I finished the trailer too and it got it's first colour coat.

The trailer was just as bad as the tractor. I had to scratch build some new loading ramps since kit ones were big solid lumps of resin. There were hardly any details on the front so I added some wires and springs to hold up the drawbar.

cheers,

Aloha All,

a small update on the Humvee. I've completed the first wash and got the figures mostly done. the gunner still gets a woodland camo flak vest, then I'll put them in and do some light weathering.

everybody,
I'm calling this one 'done' - on the whole I'm not too unhappy with it. After all it was my first build in over 30 years. Apologies for not posting any progress updates, but I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out.

Unfortunately, the accordion player had a bit of a gravity-related incident on the way to the studio (shed) during which he lost his head (reattached) and the cigarette he was smoking (lost - well, it's bad for you)

Headlights with bulbs made of solder, the kit windscreen wiper looked more like a parking brake - so that's what it became. The wiper is made of 0.2mm lead wire and the blade a flattened bit of the same material. Headlight and horn wiring also 0.2mm wire. Grill is my first attempt at PE. Wheels are miniart, with added valves.

Doorhandles and window winders made of wire - because I've 'opened' one of the windows, I put the winders in different positions. Seat is covered in tissue and I cut a slot between mudguard and foot board as they were made of separate parts (funnily enough, visible on the box-art, but not even hinted at in the kit) Rear window blanked off.

The seat cushion on the box is made of tissue-covered Blu Tack with some twine glued to it. The box is a combination of an old ID card and the 'benches' from the kit as well as some PE srews, bits of wire and lead foil. PPSh 41 from TAHK, garmoshka (accordion) player by Plusmodel, as is the Maxim M-4 (strangely this kit had some nice PE chains in it, but not the muzzle-caps that are supposed to be attached to them ) I removed the locating blocks for the benches and re-carved the slots between the planks that make up the cargo-bed. Made up a spare-wheel mounting (I know it's an earlier version than the trailer hitch I have only seen the chains on the back-wheels in pictures of German captured GAZs, but don't see why the Russians wouldn't have used that trick as well.

I'll have to give the boots another layer of dirt...event hough they still look chunky, the clasps on the cargo-bed have been sanded to within an inch of their lives.
Next I'll have to suss out how to upload pictures to the campaign site.
Comments welcome.

Hey everybody,
Al, Those Chevys are a great twist for an old but nice kit. That kit is one of my "Old Loves" as it were.
Dierk, The Gaz-AA is really nice. Those Maxims are coooool.

So, I'm going for the AFV Club Sd.Kfz. 11 Einheitsfahrerhaus. I've had it on my shelf for a while and every review I've read says it's a relatively smooth build which is what I need right now.

After looking at the kit it seems to be nicely molded so I'll skip PE, etc. and scratch anything it's missing.
Looks like fun!

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for the kind words! A word of warning about those Maxims: PITA doesn't even come close to describing the grips for the guns! They are made of 2 resin and 2 PE parts EACH! I was careful not to photograph them in too much detail, as they didn't turn out too well - not helped by the carpet monster devouring about 3 of the resin grips and 1 of the PE brackets Also, the way the guns are attached to the casting blocks makes it impossible not to lose some pretty important details when you remove them.

If I were to do it again, I'd get the version made by TAHK - more expensive, and you have to make up the parts of the tripod yourself, but you also get the box I had to scratch, but the grips are made of just one piece!

Love the Chinese interpretation of the name for your SdKfz11! Not only did they give it a gender-change, they introduced an unnecessary Umlaut - nice looking vehicle, though - I wonder if the Russians captured any
