Hey Dierk,
I was born over Nuremberg (Air Assault in a Huey) and my Mom is German so I saw the title mistakes too. Can't say much though as their grasp of at least 3 different languages is much more broad than mine. I'm only good for 1 1/2 not counting English and American English/ Texan variants.

Looks like we need another campaign leader. Jim Lewis hasn't been to Armorama since November. Any volunteers?

I might step up as a campaign leader Gary, or I can back up Bob as a secondary leader. The campaign might have claimed 2 so far, but you know third one's the charm

I hope the well-documented unreliability of KVs hasn't rubbed off on our campaign leaders Doesn't bode well for the third one - KVs were three times more likely to be lost due to mechanical failures/ lack of fuel than were knocked out in battle - should we just skip the third campaign leader and go straight to the fourth?

Emre, I would say open it up to everyone who would like to submitt a design to see what comes up. I will try to make one, the last was a little too big (still working on that size) and Gary came up with one better.

Ok, I think I'll hand control over to Bob and Emre can co-lead. As far as ribbon design, when I think of soft-skin, vehicles don't come to mind. My only other idea would be soft-skin vehicles from opposite ends of the time line (WW1 - Modern).

Ha! I thought the same thing. Don't Google "soft skin" without an open mind.
By the way, I've got a humvee waiting to be built, so if I can clear some others off my workbench before the end date gets too close, I'll jump into this campaign. Hopefully the 3rd leader will still be around then!
thanks,
-Sean.

Sorry Bob but I have a very limited thought process for things like that and my technical compute skills would never be able to figure out how to put it into the proper format.
But I would be more than happy to vote on other ribbons

Hello everyone
Got a little work done on my jeep.. Just Tamiya's in 1/35..
so far its just out of the box.. though I've made a headlight guard out of copper wire and replacing the jerry can with a resin one..
here is a build pic

@ Delbert: looks like a nice clean build. At first I thought the copper was wiring going from the body to the light fixture, my eyes are not what they use to be. Have you ever made a ribbon or used Windows Paint?
My thoughts for a campaign ribbon are a volkswagen beetle I cannot think of any thing at the moment.

Talking of superstitions: !3 is considered a lucky number in Italy and statistics are like bikinis - they reveal a lot, but hide the essential things
And anyway - I realised the error of my ways and deleted the post...lost the plot (what little I have of it) and thought I was on the KV forum...
I'll go away now (no really - holiday) but I'll be Beethoven? Bach? One of them...

Hi Bob..
the copper wire is hard to see from that angle... and i know what you mean about the eyes..
I've never made a campaign ribbon yet.. But I do use some High powered editing programs for my photo editing, as I put all my model pics on my website.
Here is something I just whipped up in the last hour. When I think softskin, I think jeep first of all so thats why I did this vehicle.. everyone knows the military jeep.. lol
and for the background I choose Dunkelgelb, because OD green was just too dark and it just seemed a good choice..
Keep in mind this is just a first attempt..

@ Delbert: nice job on the ribbon do you mind giving me a tutorial on how you made it. The jeep looks like it was pasted from some where else, how do you do that? I have been practicing with Windows Paint without a manual and no nowledge at all on how it works with some success so far, but still not at your level. I also had an image of Charmin toilet tissue for the soft skinned ribbon:D

Hey Bob
thanks.. I don't know if I can give you a tutorial, but I'll tell you how I made it.. btw.. I pretty much learn this photo stuff, and web stuff I do on my website, by doing.. trial and error is a good teacher..
I used adobe photo shop elements 9 to do this but what I did was pretty basic..
first I have this book on my shelf... D-day to Berlin its about camo and markings for vehicles..
here is a pic of the book on amazon.
I took a photo of the book cover centered on the Jeep using a tripod and my inexpensive 12 megapixal camera
I then used the crop tool to crop out the jeep.. I tried to crop it out in as close to the aspect ratio as I could for the ribbon which is 50 pixels wide by 20 high.
I used the brush tool to paint out a couple of items that got cropped out with the jeep.. so that I now have a jeep on a white background.
I then used the magic wand tool (this is a tool that finds the edges of items in your photo.. it edged out the jeep..
then I saved off a paint sample color of the dunkelgelb off of a website selling it. loaded that into my paint program.. used the color picker tool (eyedropper) to set my main color to dunkelgelb.
went back to the jeep photo which has the jeep outlined with the magic wand tool and choose the fill tool.. (paint can) and clicked on the white backgrouind around the jeep and it filled the area with my dundelgleb color.
I then had a few small white area's around the jeep to fill using the same magic wand tool and fill tool. and used the brush tool for any white spots left anywhere on the background..
now remember I am doing this at pretty much a full screen because I have yet to resize.. although I tried to start off with a correct aspect ratio.
now I saved off my master copy.. then resized the photo to 50 pixels wide and 20 pixels high.. (i missed the aspect ratio slightly but in this size you really can't see it..
then I saved it off as a .gif (which is what most of the ribbons seem to be), put it in my photobucket and posted it here..
So as you can see I kinda cheated in that I didn't use any merged images or layers... I just started with what I wanted and went from there..
The best Tip I can give you is when working with something as small as a ribbon, start with something larger and then resize it down when you finish.. just keep your aspect ratio where it will not deform..
I.E. A 50 pixel by 20 pixel ribbon.. start with a 500 by 200 pixel image.. which gives you a good size to work with, just remember when you shrink it down you will lose detail.. how much depends on how good your editing software is. oh and no matter how good it is some stuff just can't be seen when when you go really small with it..
