If in doubt, use the GIMP. Available for free on most platforms and while lacking a bit in usability compared to say Photoshop the basic stuff is easy. Scaling and changing formats are quickly done, some show effects are not that difficult either

Wow Mechanix, you've done it again! A truly stunning build. I can't wait to see it in full painted glory, but I'm glad you showed it off naked first. If ever a ribbon was well-earned, this is it.
