'Sorry for the amount of photos but this has been a long drawn out affair'

Jeez, Bob, show us your pain and let us share the burden

But seriously, you got some real gem to show for it! Wish i had the strength....

@Leo: thanks for the kind words, and the sympathy the hardes part was laminating the turret frame with the first layer of plastic sheeting. The second layer was not as hard but was necessary to make it look like a turret

@ Jesper: thanks buddy for the comment, at the moment I am trying to replicate the cannons mount and what ever that round thing is coming out of the front beside it.

The Hurricane is primed and a bit of paint (Tamiya "Sky") has been applied on the underside surfaces.

I'm going to 'post' rather than 'pre' shade this one - I'll try pre shading on my next 'wingy thing'.

I've now done the cockpit and and wheel wells, and protected them with cotton wool and Bluetack respectively

Here are some shots :

When the RAF Dark Earth acrylic arrives I'll apply that

Cheers

Not as much pain this time, actually everything went pretty well. More photos of that turret

installed the gun mount.
Photobucket
Photobucket

I made some details and installed as shown on the instructions.
Photobucket

I used the tool box from the kit.
Photobucket

laminated (3) peices of scrap plastic to make the shroud for the 37 mm
Photobucket

used a peice from the parts box to make the what ever this is.
Photobucket

It is starting to look like the turret as it should.

Paul, I am just working out all of my frustrations on the kit and turret since it is finals time at school and it is hard to teach an old dog any new tricks I have stopped for a day or two to spend some time in my books so see ya later.

Dave, I can not wait to see that kit since I do not know what the vehicle is. My knowlege of armor is limited to what books I have and the M4

Great job on the turret, Bob. It is always tricky with curved and traight surfaces on a "small" area. It looks really nice.

Looking forward to see more

Jesper, thanks for the kind words and yes compound curves are awful and trying on the soul. I just finised the rivits photos later. I next install the cannon barrel which I found in another kit box, lucky me at least I do not have to make one (I was wondering how).

Ok! last photos until after finals here I tried to replicate rivits some one should have told me that cutting, placing, gluing, sanding is a real pain but the results are not bad.

rod cut to length and glued to the turret
Photobucket
Photobucket

after drying I used a sanding stick to cut down the length of the rivits then used a massive amount of liquid glue to soften the edges and give the rivits a round effect.

And the barrel

Sal I used the original for the END OF DAYS CAMPAIGN (great fun there) we scratch as much as we want for a vechicle that our little minds can come up with that we think would be slapped together. Here take a look mine is named "TINKER BELL" and you can see the original kit turret from the 7TP.
Hopefully this is the link for page 16, halfway down is "TINKER BELL" enjoy.
Sal,
1. we are just a bunch of nuts enjoying the journey of building.
2. forget the theme of the campaign and look at the different building and tips that abound in each photo.
3. I have learned so much from this thread that I am now confident enough to scratch anything so the turret for my White Eagle build.
4. if you have the time go through all of the pages there are alot of tips.

Once again great work Bob,

Really awesome progress

The Lifecolor RAF Dark Earth arrived in the mail and I've masked the Hurricane and layed down the first coat.

I must say I really like shooting Lifecolor Acrylic, very nice flow, and easy cleanup with water - it's also great to be able to use Distilled water for a thinner

I'll let the "Wingy Thing" sit over night and shoot some RAF Dark Green - after I mask the Camo patterns with some BlueTac

Hopefully tomorrow I get to reveal the Hurricane less masking tape etc ....

Now masking the Canopy .... thats' another story Ouch !!

Keep up the great work team.

Nice work Piotr !

The Camo is finished on my '303' Hurricane, and I've stripped off the Bluetac and Masking tape

I'm happy with the results (For my first 'Wingy thing' ).

Getting there guys

Camo on, and the Canopy frame done (I hate that masking !! ).

I think I may need to dip the Canopy in a 'Future' type polish - is that a good idea ?

Here's where I'm at

I'll touch up the cockpit edges and the Canopy frame tomorrow - ready for it's fitment

Hopefully I can get a nice clear coat on it soon - ready for decals.

I watched "The Battle of Britain" (the movie) today, and I'm really looking forward to weathering this baby !!

Cheers

Hi Guys,
Just a little update my Tamiya Cromwell is almost completely built but I ran into some small problems;
1st half of the pick ax broke off and went flying
2nd a small antenna looking like piece that goes in front of the commander hatch was eaten by the carpet monster
3rd the second antenna piece there broke
and 4th the headlight frames broke as i was trying to cut them from the spruces
This is the 1st time I have had this type of trouble with a Tamiya kit. Is this kit extra fragile or is it me
I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow

Paul: Absolutely! I haven't done it myself yet, but I have seen several models where the canopies have been dipped in Future and they come out crystal clear and looking much thinner than they really are.

Sal: I have never heard of any problems with that kit. It sounds like some other factors have played into your mishaps there. I recently broke out a 1/72 airfix Canberra which are regarded as excellent kits, and there were some really odd problems with warpage especially on one of the wings. I've never seen anything like that on any other Airfix kit, and I'm wondering if your Cromwell may have a similar situation with some kind of manufacturing weirdness. It could also be that you're just having one of those days where everything you touch seems to fall apart, I know I have them

@ Sal, it is called Murphys Law. Being in law enforcemnt I believe that you know all about that.

@ Paul: your Hurricane is really looking good, I need to take airbrush lessons from you.
