While not totally unexpected, it appears that our Internet infrastructure in the area has suffered some from the storm. I have been cut off at least a half dozen times while trying to post a message.
@madmax5510 - Great job with the two Tigers, Dani. With those hits on the front I wonder if the crew can still hear!.
@NWBit - The Warrior turned out excellent. The storage in the racks makes all the difference. I too will have to keep that in mind as well as all the other points you mention about the build when I build the older version.
@r2d2 - John H. and Radek pretty much express the thoughts that most of us have about your mental state and/or your cybernetic composition. To paraphrase a line from a old scifi "Sarah, you can't stop it...it won't be stopped...that's what it does...it the Modelanator!!!!!"
Thanks to all that commented on my perpetual StuH build. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to do it ill. I realize that a few points could have been improved further but I wanted to keep it pretty much to its originally produced form. The MG-34 is a bit long in the barrel but it is the original. I had several spare Dragon ones but...one could go on forever. I'll see if in the time remaining I can't complete at least one more (The Leopard 1A4).
Chart is updated and as of today we have 25 successful members who have met the campaign requirements. Let's see some great and fast work from all the stragglers. The extension still gives you three weeks. I would like to see at least a 50% completion ratio. We're only at 42.37% and from what I recall, many campaigns end with around 33% completions. Remember that you are Braille Scalers and YOU ARE superior to the others.
Cheers,
Jan

"Shurely there must be shome mishtake!" Jan, you've got me down as 'completed' but I thought that under your previously trumped up Kobe Yoshi Maru ruling I was required to submit at least six entries
It sounded like a challenge to me, and there's still time!!
Latest update:
M60 - Tyres painted and initial weathering and dry-brushing applied
Challenger - External fuel tanks added and painted, tow cables added and partially painted.
Comet - Tracks and tyres painted black, realized the first coat of paint is the wrong colour (it's pre-shading, honest!).
German 88 & Tractor - nothing to report
I might post a couple of progress photos tomorrow if it's sunny (probably).
Cheers,
John

It was!
I've tried to get a streaky weathered effect on the ERA, I confess to pushing up the highlights in the photo, but overall I'm quite encouraged with the results. I'm also encouraged by the weathering on the tracks, another area where I'm not overly confident.
Tow cables added and partially painted, they look okayish, but the original detail isn't great and the metallic highlights just draw attention to the fact. Maybe some fairly heavy rust will help hide it. MG also added and painted but not weathered yet, ammo boxes still to be added. This photo has also exposed that the paintwork at the rear of the hull needs touching up. I'm think I'm going to have to cover the turret bins with some tarps, they really let the whole build down at the moment.
I was finding that the rubber band tracks wouldn't sit on the drive sprocket teeth so I removed the concealed teeth which improved the fit, but now the tracks look a bit loose. Also as previously mentioned I've also got the hull colour wrong, so I'll add a lighter coat but try to use the dark as pre-shading in the shaded areas (a new technique for me, I don't know if pre-shading works with brush painting but it's worth a try, if it's pants I can just make the lighter colour solid).
Lots still to do, so cheers for now...
John

It is true they do look a bit like they're made of plastic. Otherwise I think this vehicle looks great, I can't see too much wrong with the two ropes, and bear in mind that these modern vehicles probably never see any rust; maybe just go for some dust effect instead to tone down the somewhat bright and contrasting colours.

I don't see too much wrong with them, though you could try tightening them a bit, and inducing a bit of sag between the idlers at the same time, by forcing a little bit of black sprue or matchstick or something between the track and the trackguard, just to bend the track down a little. It may be possible to do this while keeping whatever it is you use concealed.

I'm not too sure about lightening up a darker colour by brush... what type of paint are you planning to use? And what colour do you want it to be? You might be better off just repainting it with the new colour, using enamel.
Anyway, enough busybodying... for my own build I have been painting tracks, tyres and under-chassis parts as well as giving a dark pin wash, so I'm planning on sealing that all off then doing a bit more weathering with some glazes. Just using the PC to create some SS number plates as I couldn't find any in the ancient decals box - and this 8cm launcher has to be that way.

Matthew, thanks for the advice and positive comments, they're greatly appreciated!
That's useful advice, thanks
I've also found that the vinyl tracks shrink when immersed in boiling water but it's a bit of an imprecise science and it's very easy to overdo it. I've never tried it with the tracks in-situ, if I give it a try I'll report back with the results.
I must confess that I've changed my mind (again). I haven't found evidence of the camo scheme suggested in the kit instructions so I wasn't going to use it, but last night I decided 'what the hey' and applied the second colour over the existing coat (that's why I used the wrong colour in the first place). My wife has rated the results as 'very pretty' so it was obviously the right choice even if it's historically inaccurate.

Congratulations to all the loyal contrbutors of this campaign. ;-) 45,000 hits and another page left behind! The action here seems to not abate. Personally, I have yet to see this momentum in any campaign that I have experienced. And there are still three weeks to go!
Cheers to All,
Jan

Jaymes, not another disaster It appeared to be coming along so well after your last pictures. Did you get cursed or something? IIRC, I seem to recall that you also had a further recent disaster with a larger scale kit. Sorry to see you go. Good luck in your future builds.

The tracks were a link or two too long and they melted when I shortened them and glued them to the hull I don't know why. The large scale accident was something that happened about 3 years ago the kit got salvaged and is long finished by my brother
I've got some time off i might see if I can still try and salvage something for this campaign it would be a shame to miss out

Jaymes,
Good luck with working on another subject for the campaign, maybe a 'warts and all' quick build might be good medicine for you after a frustrating run of bad luck. I picked up a Revell 1/76 Panzer II (the old matchbox kit) the other day and I was wondering whether I might be able to do a quick OOTB build in time for the campaign deadline (probably a bit over ambitious given that I've got another 3 partials that I also want to finish). With a basic, low parts count kit with no L+L tracks or PE to worry about you'd at least get the reward of seeing it grow quickly. Worth considering?
I've hit another frustration, my M60A1 is glossed up and ready for decals - but where are the decals? We live in a small terrace where storage space is limited, hence kit boxes have to be periodically culled. Remaining parts of partial builds (of which I've already confessed to owning far too many) end up stored together in fewer boxes, which makes it a pain finding the parts later. I've been through every single box (I took all last evening) but no M60 decals
I'm currently considering buying a complete kit replacement from ebay, does anyone have any alternative suggestions?
On a happier note my A-34 Comet is progressing nicely, I'd post another progress shot but 'Sunny Southampton isn't living up to it's name at the moment!
Good luck to all who are trying to get projects finished before the deadline, and for anyone who is unable to complete I'll see you in the 'Getter Done' campaign (which I suspect is going to get mobbed by Braille builders as soon as this campaign finishes.
Cheers
John

Hi folks,
I had to do the aul' day job thing for a while, then family stuff and I'm finally getting back to the thread.
Loads of great builds folks.
@Jan- Hope your roof is okay (or easily repairable at least).
@Chris- love the Warrior. Figures came out great- love the detail. Mucho respecto for everyone who did braile scale figures
@Val: Nuts... As nambrain said, to go to the trouble of mocking up a four foot Tamiya paint bottle was a bit OTT in fairness.
Later,
Eoin

Hey guys been so busy with work and just finished this build. Well its been a struggle for me doing a lot of detailing on this plus the scale factor but I got there at the end. Painting and weathering was done with my usual acrylics and pigments. So here it is guys, special thanks to Jan for accepting me in this GB and to everybody here. Hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed everyones work.
I have added all the arials, detailed the IED jammers on the side (w/ coils on th bottom and width indicator on top), detailed all the optics etc... I think this is all that I can do to have an accurate Challenger 2 TES 2008 in this scale. Thanks guys!

I've been in similar situations myself and had to do the same thing. The way I get around losing bits and pieces is ziploc bags and notebooks. I use a suitable sized bag for each kit so that all of the pieces stay together even when being moved around and stored with other loose kits. I then place all of the instructions and decals into document protectors that I keep in a notebook/binder that is dedicated to scale models. It's a great way to organize an otherwise disorganized situation
As for decals, I tried searching for some images of the decals or AM sets with no luck.
Val: You are one of a good handful of people here that I seriously would not want to go up against in a Braille armor competition

Val,
Your Chally is EXCELLENT!
It would be superb in 1/35, but, well it doesn't look like it could be 1/72 scale. You've outdone yourself, sir.

Great to see that the momentum is still here.
Thanks to all for their best wishes on the roof situation. It's been frustrating and we hear in the local media that there is nary a shingle to be found within 50 miles (80 km). Signed a preliminary contract to get an "armoured roof" (stainless steel) and now have to wait for inspection and precise measuring. The sales person assures me that at it's thickness and angle it should be able to resist up to 1/8 scale 120mm APDS projectiles.
@r2d2 - Breathtaking, to say the least. It was very difficult to decide what images to pick for the feature. I got quite a number but still have to widdle it down to three. Val, please remember to put one image in the Kitmaker campaign gallery so I can "blue" out your name as complete.
@majjanelson - Jeff, waiting anxiously to see some paint on those two 1/144 Tigers!
@newfish - Jaymes, I admire your persistence and will keep my fingers crossed for you on this build. I've never seen that particular kit in any local shops so it's interesting to me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My best wishes to those still slogging away. You have three weeks to get your builds together and get some paint on them. I don't know if I'll get the Leopard done as I have been somewhat distracted as of late. As it is, I fear that John's decal curse might have spilled over a bit. I had the decals for a Canadian version but cannot find them for anything. I have a couple of Braillers from the local club looking for any spares they might have.
Master Chart was updated today.
Cheers,
Jan

Cheers,
