Michael: Awesome, thanks for the link. It looks like it resembles older NATO camo schemes, but with a light tan and lighter green instead of the darker colors.
Paul: Thanks for the clarification, makes sense now
And yes, the options for this campaign have the potential to create a very diverse collection for this group build.
Another question: Didn't the Australians use captured Italian tanks in WWII? I seem to remember seeing some Italian tank designs with big white Kangaroos painted on them... If so I think I may want to build one, assuming there is an accurate and affordable kit out there of one of these. I should be able to easily make my own stencils if there are no decals out there.
Dean: I figured as much regarding WWII, but wasn't aware off Kiwi involvement in LRDG.
Scott: Nice

Hi guys,
Any idea of what the time frame we are looking at here and when I'm back at work now and my build time has been greatly diminished Lots of stuff starting in the beginning of the year so a March or later start would work better. It will give me an excuse to maybe build another Sherman
First you guys got me addicted to this campaign thing and now you are making me expand my horizons outside of German WWII Armor.

June's a good start date - when will it finish?
Jeremy, I remember seeing that photo you mentioned recently. I can't remember the tank model, but I think they should be available as kits. You'll probably have to make the kangaroo marking yourself. (Makes me wonder if any of the German stuff changed ownership too? Aussie markings on a Panzer III anyone?...)

Hmm, makes you wonder... ever seen an Aussie Tiger?
Seriously though, I'm not very familiar with Italian tanks, but I have heard/read that most of the kits out there aren't really anything to write home about.

Yes we have Tigers in service. But they have rotory wings.

Nice one Jason Looks like a stout rotary bird, I think I remember watching footage of those on the Top 10 Military Helicopters or something along those lines.

Just a suggestion, how about having the start date as ANZAC Day on April 25th 2011? This day is very significant for us in Australia and New Zealand.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANZAC_Day
I realise this may interfere with members existing campaigns, but we could have a longer build time, and push the end closer to christmas?
I'm keen, no matter what start date is decided

That's a good idea Andrew, I'd be surprised if they let this campaign extend more than 6 months based on what I've been told. However this is a patriotic idea that is unique Australia/New Zealand so maybe we can have this campaign run for 12 months from April 25th 2011- April 25th 2012.

The standard version, late version with MCS and a add on for the Instructor.
Cheers Jason

Hi Guys,
I recently built Tamiyas Carro Armoto M13/40 and the kit came with Aussi markings that I still have somewhere. Does anybody know what other types of armor the Aussies used from the Axis in Africa campaign and photos so I could use these markings?
Scott I like the April 25 date to honor the Down Under Folks sounds like a good idea to me

Did someone say Aussie M113? Firestorm models do a large range of upgrades for an Aussie M113. I also have another conversion kit from a company called Supertech that my next-door neighbour gave to me. It produces an Israeli M113 Fitter which my neighbour, who used to be a commander in M113s, says is very close to the Aussie version. Academy also has the option to produce and Aussie M113 in their kit. I heard rumours of Firestorm models producing a conversion kit to let you create the upgraded M113 with the six road wheels. But it has not been released yet. I was talking to them at the Qld IPMS show a few years ago and they said they were having troubles with sourcing the longer tracks required. I told them I had the perfect cure and went and bought a set of Fruilmodel metal tracks to show them. Still no sign of the conversion kit though.
Don't forget the RAAC Centurion from AFV Club. Eduard do a great PSP armour set for the Matilda III/IV and Firestorm models have a conversion for the Matilda III/IV Tamiya kit to convert it into an Aussie Matilda.
Trumpeter have a LAV25 kit with Australian Army colours. I do not know if it is 100% accurate but it looks like one to me..
Then there are a few Howitzer kits out there also used by the Australian Army.
I also have a Tamiya Carro Armato M13/40 (or somefing) tank with Aussie markings in my stash..
I am in if it gets off the ground.

Quoted TextNew Zealand currently has no heavy armour ( or an airforce, thank you Labour Government ). We use the LAV III.
We used the Firefly in Italy in WWII. Aussie bought their boys home to fight in the Pacific which is why they never got the Firefly. In WWII we used pretty much whatever the British were using. The initial LRDG were made up heavily of Kiwis so there were a lot of LRDG trucks with Kiwi monickers.
Whenever I think of auscam I always think of the jellybean BDUs.
And the good news is that sometime in the future trump will release a NZ-LAV i asked Gouye if we would ever see a NZ-LAV and he promptly posted a pic in the LAV 3 thread..
Cool, I could do a diorama of a LAV III driving around urban Napier ( Andrew will get that reference ).
If anyone wants something a little different for WWII the aussies used the Vickers VI and Grant in North Africa, and the Matilda II in Bougainville.
This is a handy site http://www.australian-armour.com
