Having just moved to Oz i'm keen to get involved here.

Was looking at the Anzac steel site and came across a photo of the Leopard 1 on trials here (third picture down) and i'd like to give it a go.

Only problem is I can't make out the unit markings which the earlier cation of the M-60 on trials says are:
"The tank carries a full range of B Squadron, 1st Armoured Regiment markings. A yellow plate with black radio call sign was affixed to the rear of the turret basket"

Can anyone help me out with some better pictures of what these are, I have had no luck searching online.

Thanks,

James

Its all good James. I will help you out mate. Just give a couple of hours to find my book and go thou a few hundred photos mate.
But for starters in the photo the C/S is 21A, the ARN is 8954, and in the yellow and red square (from memory) it should be 210.

Cheers Jason

You have 2 choices mate of trial Leopards.
1. C/S 21A ARN 8954 "BLITZKRIEG"
2. C/S 21B ARN 8955 "BARBAROSSA"
Both have the 1 Armd Regiment red and yellow marking with 206 in white. Not 210 as before.
It also has the "Skippy with Swords" on the front left and on the stowage bin on the rear 21A/B in white inside a red box the same as the side of the turret.
The ARN is on the front of the hull as seen in the picture and below the tool box on the rear of the hull.

Both have the Canadian style drivers periscope (?) and a small odd shaped box on the front right mud guard. They were also fitted with a stowage box off the rear of the turret basket later on in the trial. And looks like a German WW2 Tiger bin. Well the shape of it anyway.

Barbarossa Books Leopard Trilogy Volume 3 Foreign Service only has two small pictures in it. But a good book nonetheless.

Hi Jason,

Thats excellent information thankyou!

Any better info on the 'skippy with swords' logo I can't find any reference pic for this.

Also I can't make out in the photo if the names 'blitzkreig' and 'barbarossa' are actually on the tanks anywhere?

Cheers,

James

Just to clarify, the Leopard 2 trilogy is by Tankograd Publishing and Barbarossa Books is one of the sellers.

Am I missing something here ?

1. The Tankograd Leopard 2 "Trilogy" only has 2 volumes.

2. The Australia Leopards were 1's not 2's.

3. What Trilogy are we talking about here ?

Cheers

Ah! My mistake. I hadn't heard of the Leopard 1 trilogy. for some reason I automatically think Leopard 2 these days when Leopard is mentioned.

For some reason I thought Tankograd had 3 books on the Leo 2. My brain just isn't working right these days.

Just pulled my Italeri Staghound Mk.1 out of the stash this morning to start reading up on it. I should be ready to go at the jump off date

I hope I'm not too late, in fact it seems I may have just come in under the gun....
Sign me up! This will be my first campaign, so be gentle. I had already decided my next model, and happened upon this thread, a nice coincidence.
I'm planning on an AFV Club Mk 5/1 Centurion with the Eduard super detail kit, and Friul tracks. It will be a week or so before I order (model show next week=vendors) but we seem to have a while to finish.

Being new to campaigns, you might want to check out the "TUTORIAL: Armorama Campaigns" thread.

You can join campaigns even after they have started.

Has Miniart released the version of the Valentine that the Aussies had yet?

Hi Jeremy,
as far I as am aware Australia did not use the Valentine, but New Zealand did;

100 Mk II - Minart kit 35039 or 35092,
74 Mk III - Minart kit 350106 (no external difference from the Mk V only the engine)
81 Mk V - Minart lit 350106

All kits are available through Hobby Easy
The Mk V (350106) has markings for three different vehicles in NZ service, 2 in the Solomon Island and 1 post war in N.Z. There may be some minor issues with the markings, but once I examine the kit (just ordered this morning) I should be able to make a better judgement.

cheers

Thanks David, I knew that too and not sure why I was thinking Australian....

Thanks for the list, and let me know what you think of the MK V as I would certainly be interested in building that one. Heck, I'd probably build one of each eventually

Cheers
Jeremy

Hi, Guys I got more work done today then expected on my SB-17 for the SAR Campaign so I will start cutting into this 1 with my morning coffeePhotobucket
Italeri Staghound Mk1 late model in 1/35 scale, I read somewhere that it is a re-box of the Tamiya 1. It has marking for the 1st Australian Armored Car Sdn. BCOF, Japan,1946-48. My question is what color green do I paint this beast Italeri says to use Med Green, ITAMM-1713 does anybody know the Tamyia color conversion for that paint
