Hi everyone,
This is a cool idea for a campaign, and I've just signed up. Like many of you, Tamiya was IT back the day, and growing up in the 70's, I always anxiously awaited their releases. It definitely sparked an excitement for modelling that I have to this day.
So, to show my own homage to Tamiya, I'm going to try to go Old School. I've got a 1978 tamiya catalogue that lists all the available kits at that time. I happen to have one of them, "Military Series No. 11, Panzer Kampfwagen III Ausf. M/N (with combat crew of 5)". I'm going to try to keep to techniques and knowledge that were available then; no PE, detailed vehicle/unit references, etc, although I'm going to skip the model airplane glue...I just can't deal with THAT mess again. Who knows ? Maybe in the process, I will capture a little piece of my youth. I'll post some pics before too long...
thanks !

Wooo boy !
This sure brings back some memories. Dig the sugested markings and painting schemes. 21st pz division ? 14th Pz division ? Yikes !
And how about that funky " cottonball" camo painting suggestion ? Anybody try that ? I did. It, uh, didn't uh, turn out so good. Can you say "fuzzy tank model ?"

Hi guys, i have seen a lot of advences in the forum, peter your kid has a gerat variety of decals that the new kids rarely has.
Ok this is mi kit, a classic of tamiya, i started but i had have some problems, fisrt my son 3 years old hide a litle piece of the tomer gun, then l have to wait 24 hours for he decided returning it. jajajaja. but the biggest problem, were when i tried to perforate the flakvierling's guns, it was a disaster then i had to go to lionmarc and purchae a new cannons, yesterday arrived after 2 weeks, these are the pictures.
this is the tower of the gun (the stolen piece is in site)
The guns with my bad work for perforate it.
And finally my new guns, metal barrel, beautiful pieces.

- Sven,
Thanks for the answer to the 'non-skid' mystery. I will have to see if I can find any of that paint.
- To One and All,
Some very interesting builds are shaping up here. I will jump in soon, once I get a couple of other builds off of my workbench - currently working on the Tamiya Chieftain for the British armor campaign - progressing along nicely.
Thanks,
Stephen

I did some more work on my Abrams. I was hoping to update the old lower chassis and bring it up to date. As I had a previously done Dragon AIM boxing, I used some spare parts to spruce up the hull, sprockets and some parts for the turret. Dragon's sprockets fit easily on the Tamiya parts, with some grinding to the inner part of the sprocket.
I used the AIM hull as a template to add the plating on Tamiya's hull
And some styrene to close the inner sides of the sponsons

Hi guys some good looking stuff here, I love seeing some of those older kits being put to good use
I was going to roll here with a King Tiger, but I am falling behind or what I feel I am, in all of these campaigns so I'm gonna go with an oldie kit that I have had in the stash for a while, 1/35 Flakpanzer IV Mobelwagen OOB build
I read some where that this was a prototype vehicle and that only 1 was ever build can any 1 confirm this and if so why would Tamiya put out a kit that there was only 1 of
Ishould start cutting and gluing this week

I'm going to go with the Hetzer as well, although I'll be a bit behind you with my build. Look forward to your progress John
Sven: Nice work with the antiskid texture!
I bought some of the GW textured spray to try it out myself on a Chally II. Just need to figure out how to do the masking....
Sal: I agree, especially the Tamiya stuff. It may not be all that accurate or detailed by today's standards, but they sure are a joy to build!

@Sal:
The German tanks book from Peter Chamberlain & H. Doyle, yes that Mobelwagen version was an experimental design refused by Adolf early in 43 and then they adopted the same chassis but with a 3.7 cm Flak. (also a Tamyia kit).
Be aware when working with the 4 sided walls, if you put them in a different order it's hard to close the structure. I finished this weekend the 3.7 Flak version for another Campaign, Targets shoot back.
@Jeremy:
This week I'll work on the suspension.
I'll keep you posted on the ups & downs of this kit, I will pick the winter scheme.

This afternoon I did the suspension and worked on the back cover (where the spare tracks & cable are attached). Also started working on the top hull details.
Pics this week... Stay tuned.

Guys that Hetzer is a really nice kit, I built 1 last year with a tri-color rattle can camo for the Tank killers Campaign.
I made some progress today on my Flakpanzer, lower hull and upper hull minus the armor and gun turret is complete
Unfortunately i can not progress due to some nasty pin marks on the inside of the armor that need to be filled and I my putty hardened up so I need to get to a LHS for some more
maybe I'll stop on my way into work before my 18hr shift tomorrow

Great to see so many old kits turn up for this campaign. Those memories
Nice trick on the antislip surface, Sven. Really nice result.
Nice clean build so far, Sal. Any decisions on camo and markings?

A slow night of gluing styrene road to the turret for the mantlet cover. Tried to use the plastic bag instructions that came with the kit but either the bag didn't want to melt or the hairdryer wasn't very hot. Next I will try to form a cover out of some tissue paper soaked with a water/white glue mix.

I have tried to form a plastic bag, tissue paper, and some putty over this thing and I can't get it to look like a mantlet cover. Looks like I'll be stripping these rods off and leaving the cover off....not impressed.

I'm done with the lower frame. All painted and weathered. Wheels are on just for show. They still need washes, pigments and in one case painting
The lower body is modeled after a few images of marine tanks in a swamp like terrain, just few feet off the road. So I decided some mud and dirt with a heavy dose of dust will suffice.
Not too pronounced since most of it won't be seen from the sideskirts.
Any comments or I can start assembling the upper body?
The white intensity in the lower pics are too pronounced. In fact, the top pic got the best view.

Very nice job Mario !!
I finished the lower hull and the top hull & gun too.
The Lion Roar metal gun is not accurate for the Tamiya kit, I left the 1mm gap since I scraped the plastic gun last week... feel really stupid.
Anyway I hope to get the wheels done this next week and also finish the exaust and equipment.
I lend my camera so no pics for a week...

I've been sort of looking around and this campaign caught my eye. I have a question about what qualifies: I have a Tamiya M48A3 (kit #35120) that I plan to convert to an M48A2C using an old conversion from an outfit I can't even remember. This is pretty extensive conversion including a completely new upper hull, among other things.
My question is, is this too much of a conversion and use of aftermarket parts to qualify for the campaign?
Give it to me straight, I can take it Actually, I have several back up plans if this doesn't work, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Thanks guys it means a lot. I now have the lower body assembled but have a problem with the exhaust panel of the lower body fitting pretty badly to the upper part. I will add some styrene to fill up the gaps and wait for sanding I really hate puttying/sanding....

Hi Guys, picked up some putty and got some more building done. Got out the drill bits and drilled the barrels out a bit
The build is complete and some areas primedI went with the gray primer for the guns as i figure it will go better with the gunmetal paint
So now the whole thing is primed, hopefully i will get a chance tomorrow to give it the 1st coat of dunkelgelb. Being that this vehicle was a prototype I don't think i will do any camo to it
