last night., i wanted to put a coat of primer on to see what kind of impurities would show up on the building. after putting the primer on, i decided that it looked like hell. so, to resolve it it and to add a little more flavor, i added texture to the wall.
also, started some ground work.

@John: Thanks for the reply!
@Sal: Nice job on the ground, I hear using cork is very tiresome!
@Jesse: Nice work on the door, may I suggest that the house be painted white! Most houses in North Africa used to be painted white as it helps reflect the sun’s rays therefore keeping the house cooler.
@Bruce: That should be an interesting building!

its just a coat of primer. i primed it so i could not only get a good pre shade, but to see any bad spots that might need to get corrected. with just plaster, it was hard to see any spots that needed correction

added some blue to the door to see how it would turn out. turned out pretty good i believe. just have to add pigments.
just about ready to start adding paint

Hey there guys. Just want to give a little update on my build.
But first...
Pat - WOW! That's some big building you have going there. Looking forward to seeing it. Is it heavy?
Vlad- Pretty good buildings you got going there, and I like you method for making that big window frame. Might try that sometime.
John- Interesting dio. Not exactly something you see everyday. Also, looking at your avatar thingy there...which Batt.?
Sal- What happened to your pictures? And cutting bricks is "fun" huh.
Keith - I love industrial themed dios. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. Also, I think MIG Productions makes some kind of "Soviet factory light" or something like that. I meant to look before I posted but forgot...I'll take a look when I'm done.
Jesse - Man...your moving right along on that thing. I like the texture you added, it does give the building a little more umph.
Bruce - Can't wait to see Red Rain completed!
OK. Here's my progress so far.
Overall view.
Stone and brick building.
The city gate as it stands now. LOTS more to do.
So there's my update. I'll check back in another two weeks or so. I know there's not a lot to comment on so far...but if you've got a question or a critique, lay it on me.
Bill.
Can someone help me out? Why are they thumbnails? Thanks!

adding another update of mine. got paint put down. just need a few touch ups, mostly with the exposed rock.
have to finish weathering the door frame and mount the door.
have figures on order. by the time i recieve those, i may be ready to focus on completing those.
and of course, just have to finish up the fence and sporadic vegetation.

looking good guys, i too use spackling for between the cracks. i take a wet rag to wipe it down to get the recesses showing again. just easier to have pre-mixed fine spackle than to mix plaster because it doesn't take much to cover a large area.
by my rough calculations i am at 7,480 cork bricks glued down... only about 3,000 more to go. this doesn't include all the cobblestone i made for the base. just taking it one brick, one row, one wall at a time.
cheers, bd.

sal one thing i want to input....your bricks seem to be a bit out of scale. its obviously up to you if you want to correct it because i know it would be a ton of work plus, im not sure of what look your necessarily going for, but your cobblestone look like they would be rougly 2ft long by 1 ft wide in reality. if you compare them to a normal size brick (on the garage) the road bricks are HUGE

Jesse yes they are a little out of scale and since I added the Spackle between them(photo later) they look even bigger But like I said this was my 1st time working with cork and most of it will be covered by a huge KV-1 rolling past the front of the building So next time I will take more care and make them smaller

one thing you may want to think about is maybe turn part of the road into dirt. simply cover the side street. with a thin amount of dirt. that will take a little focus off of it.
tearing it all up would be alot of work. alot of work i wouldnt want to do. thats for sure

Thanks Jeremy, Here is where I am at with my window making. The top right window has only the Testors Window glue, all the others have the glue over the thin plastic bags that the spruces come in
Next up will be to brake some of the windows an make them looked shattered

Jesse: Coming along nicely. the exposed adobe looks really good.
Bill: Great archway. I really like the architecture there.
Bruce: only 3,000 to go? You are making some serious progress.
Sal: the streets is fine and the garage looks good with it. have you tested if the plastic windows are rigid enough to take the shattering effect? Just curious as to how this will work out.
Happy Modelling, -zon

ive made a decision on the infantry portion of the dio(still need a tank commander), here are the two sets. i basically bought 2 sets just to do one figure. i needed a pointing soldier. pointing soldiers that gave a feel of being in the thick of danger are not common.found this one that was relatively close-- its almost the look i was going for, but i wanted a little more "urgency". so i also bought this just for the legs.---
both of these combined, gives me .
now, i just have to figure out what i want to do for his right arm. he will be a rifleman, so i gotta do something with the pistol. but, i will be looking into my repertoire of figures to find an arm i can use to get a realistic look for a soldier holding a K98. i wil probably use one other figure from each set. not really sure yet though. depends on how busy the scene gets

Hi all,
Great work guys, unfortunately I just started my term three finals so I won’t be working on anything for a while!
Nice pose for the figure Jesse, he would be at the same height as the tank commander. You could use the soldier (third from the left) from the second set, he could be checking what’s behind the door.
Just a thought,
