Hi guys. Wow, there's some great progress already here. I wish I had half the skills that you have now when I was your age !!
I hope there's no objection, but Josh sat and looked over his stash for a while and decided to change his mind on hi sbuild here. He has been watching me build my F-82 and looking over my shoulder at the P-51 Campaign thread and decided to drag out an old Revell 1/32 P-51B that we picked up at a swap meet.
It came without decals, but a kind member of our club gave Josh a spare set from a P-51D, so we will make up some markings.
Here's a few shots of work going on. Josh prefers wheels-up for the inevitable air-to-air combat that will follow.
Engine is assembled, wings assembled and wheel bay doors installed, cockpit side wall installed, so we have a few components ready for the airbrush later today.
Cya soon, Josh and Damian

Real life issues have been keeping me busy, so I haven´t had oppurtunity to update our status. Plus boys have had their own activities going on beside this campaign, so progress is not so great. But we´ve got something done and today I had first chance to take pics.
So, in first pic, our older son Tommi is building the Salamander:
Here´s our younger son, Tuukka, painting the cockpit of Komet.

Kimmo it is good to see your lads getting started, and not to worry they have 6 months should they need it.

Sorry for this no photo update, but I would like to inform you on where I am
I have masked the down surfaces and I have painted the RLM-70
Now, I have to mask for the RLM-71 (Splinter pattern) And then, I have to paint the large RLM-79 stripes (Well, not exactly stripes )
Cheers Nick

Damian-- by coincidence, my 3-year-old and I were going to put together the same kit! In fact, I've got the original decals, if you wanted me to send them around the world. My older two kids are excited to put some of my stash together, and I pulled out this half-built orange-peeled-paint monster from my own earlier days. (I think it was a too-heavy coat of some harsh spray-can paint without any primer.)
Since the 4-year-old is helping me build a NASCAR racecar (Kurt Busch's 2004 Sharpie Ford Taurus), her little sister wanted a racer too, so we agreed this plane would have bright paint and a race number-- hence, we won't need the kit decals, if you want them.
My 6-year-old son is working (with me) on a Chevy pickup street rod.
I hadn't entered any of them in this campaign, still a few years off probably, but rest assured, they all seem to love building! My kit stash is sure thinning at an alarming rate!! (There are several yet that I won't share.) Their birthdays are coming though, probably just in time.
Nice work here, everyone!!
-Sean.

Hi Sean. That's a really kind offer, and very much appreciated. As you said in your PM the decals are very old and likely to shatter so I'm not sure that it's worth the effort to ship them, and I don't have the technology to print them if you send a scan. The decals that our club mate gave Josh are from a recent Hasegawa kit and are in as-new condition, and Josh has been working on a scheme that is a combination of several markings including a red nose and spinner and a yellow checker tail. I think we'll stick with what we've got.
Cheers, and many thanks again for the kind offer.

Hello stan!, The base color for my tracks is Tamiya flat brown, i washe them with burnt sienna, burnt umber, and dry brushed with testors steel enamel.
For the paint on the actual tank, its color modulation, what i do is paint the entire thing the flat brown color, darken the color with a little black and go over recessed areas, panel lines, etc. Then at an upward angle take tamiya or whatever company you like dunkelgelb (dark yellow) and spray light mist coats gradually buuilding it up more paint should be on the upper surfaces with more light, then i take the dark yellow, add a little buff then just highlight the higher areas with a fairly broad pattern at the same upward angle more at the top, then for the brightest highlights, i used straight buff onthings that popped out and on top of the turret, it takes a lot of expeirimentation but youll figure it out as you go. Then for the dirt and dust effects, it is all oil paints, i put a filter of 50/50 burnt umber and burnt sienna all over the tank, take straight oil paint and put a thin layer on the lower hull and wipe most of it off with mineral spirits then put more oil on but in a smaller area then the first and repeat this until you have the desired effect. Does this all make sense? its really pretty easy once you figure it out!!

thanks brian, yes that does make sense, i will be sure to by some oil paints this weekend
i have just found an article on this website about colour modulation and it has several images many of which contain an airbrush. i do have an airbrush, but not a compressor, would one be needed to do this task?

To Darren Baker, and everyone participating.
I am not possitive but I think I just saw a young participant give us all a lesson in how he achieved some depth of color on his King T ! The future of the art will be strong for sure. Thank you Darren and everyone else for making such a great idea come to be. This is the coolest idea I have seen in a long time. Oh, and Brian Brown, well done kid!

Young master Brown, that is one superb KT you have created !! Awesome work.
Nick, as Darren said, pictures please !! I always enjoy watching your builds progress.
Josh has started some detail painting of the cockpit of the P-51 so once the drybrushing and fiddly stuff is done I'll post some pics as well.
Carry on chaps, Josh and D

I always enjoy watching what the younger members and children of members are producing as it gives me hope for the future of the hobby.
Brian that is an excellent KT you have there and I applaud your work on it.
Stan I understand your problem as the hobby in the UK costs a lot more than it does in the US, I suggest you put a post up asking if anyone has a second hand compressor you can buy within the UK.

hi darren, my mum said i can go to the modelzone in manchester this half-term becaue the last time i went there was a good quality aircompressor with gravity feed airbrush and i am thinking of getting it. i also just found this online, don't know if it would be worth buying? http://www.kmsdirect.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=313
