I dig the weld seams, what technique did you use?

Sal: Wow man, I have to say I've seen your best work thus far with that KV! Way to go

@ Jeremy - glad you like them. They're PE made by ET models - so you just stick 'em on with CA, not much of a technique. Main drawback with them is that they're very regular. I reckon on a German tank I can get away with using them (also, I haven't any putty )

Dierk;

Hi! PE weld seams? Huh. Never saw these before! They look OK - and yeah, seriously regular. The also have a distinct angular relief on the edges, but maybe this will soften with some paint?

There is a very very easy and cheap way to add these seams to styrene panzers... I use stretched sprue - heat and stretch it out very thin, cut pieces to be longer then the desired seam line, dip the piece in thin cement a few seconds to soften it, and lay it while wet and sticky along the desired seam location. Use an X-acto blade or other small metal object to score and dimple-in some marks. You can get as exact as you want (i.e., tailor the weld to show a specific pattern seen in a photo), or keep it general and suggestive. The best part of this is that the mistakes and changes-of-mind can be easily fixed by scraping off the unwanted bit and doing it over!

Just as a suggestion!

Here is a recently-done Tristar Panzer 1A to which I added a bunch of seams- some are proud, others lie in valleys between plates - the sprue technique is very versatile and can do all sorts and sizes of welds.

Cheers!

Bob

Thanks for the tip Bob - I must admit, I'd forgotten about that one...
Once I've done the areal deflector I'll slap some primer on - if I'm not happy with the result, I'll try your way (sweet Panzer I BTW)

@ Mauro - thanks for the info...and thanks for the compliment, but it's early days and there is still plenty of scope for the F*&% Up fairy to visit and my builds usually involve a few visits by that fairy - she's visited once already I'm slightly trepidacious replacing the idler-wheel mounting with the Aber PE bits - but the plastic really is

...She must be the Carpet monster's wife!

Thanks a million for the drawing link and congrats for your great upgrades!

Cheers

@ Dierk- Nice job on the welds They look good!

Here is my progress as promised.

The frontplate is finished. The rear plate also. The turret has some new hinges for the hatch because the original hinges and hatch were a bit (much) off scale and not correct. The stowage boxes on the side have a new attaching system to the hull.

Hope you like it!

Hey ya Duncan mate ,, was taking a wee looksie thru your campaign and it got me interested so i enlisted ..I built a T34 conversion many many year ago and seeing this got me thinking ..i want to build it again ,,,, T-34 with a 2cm Flakvierling and yup its a real machine ..I've got some T34 bit to play with

But i'll use this brand new one for this campaign

So you can be sure heres a couple of pics of what i'm gonna build

and heres a link to prove its real
http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panzerkampfwagen-t-34r-soviet-t-34-in-german-service.htm

But now for this ..the T34 with an 88 on it ... real also
check this out

Sal .... I think you call sign should be ''Turbo'' as you sure-do motor along, and I see you on quite a few campaigns! how many have you going now? but great work non the less, I really like the KV-2's their just monsters.

Dierk... The F2 is coming along nicely, I re-read the thread the other day and I finally got the Joan Rivers comment had last week off decorating so I reckon the paint fumes must have got to me! I like the weld PE idea just right for some German Armour.

Bob..... I would have suggested the sprue trick too, not used it myself but seen it used on a few featured builds in magazines etc. Like your Panzer 1A have you got any more pictures you could share with us?

Remco.... The T-34 is awesome, some great work it will have a very different profile/outline to the normal T-34 when finished!

Phil.... I hadn't realized you joined in so... Welcome ....... your Flak-T34 will fit in nicely (you do know CyberHobby make a version = just trying to help) and regarding the T34-88 Flak it's allowed but already discussed on this thread

Duncan ,, Hell if i brought that kit where would the fun be ? my mind dont work like normal people and it gives me the chance to play with the Flakvierling from Bronco and i made some mistakes on the first one i made so this means i can build it right and it screams for a dio to i think
As for that T34-88 not worried about that one ..found it when i was hunting down pics of the other one ,,i'll build the T34-88 but for myself to go with the rest of my strange models ,,it will fit right in

@ Duncan- Yes, it will be a other profile then the standart T-34. This was also the set up to ''unsoviet'' the looks of the T-34.

@ Phill- I got the cyberhobby flak T-34 If you have a question about some special place on the model, just send me a PM. If you ad your mail adress, i can send you a photo of the drawings

Regards,

Remco

My workbench is an old resin table that is set up in my kitchen so even this morning while I was waiting for the coffee to brew i sprayed the KV with the Dull coat. I don't read news papers and I don't watch tv except for American football, so even if i have 5 minuets to play with i'm at the workbench, gluing, cutting, painting Currently I'm working on this Campaign and the What If, I put the Urban Warfare to the side for now as my Knocked out Stug III will be part of that 1, and there are 2 Campaigns starting October 1st. Did someone say this was addicting

P.S. sleep is optional

Remco ,, mate thats brilliant i will take you up on that offer ,,the biggest problem with building this thing the first time was only one pic to work off .. now this will turn out much better ,,so good in fact i will make the armour out of sheet copper that i have or brass which i have too I love having heaps of crap in my spare room/ dump hehehe

@ Phill - I can't wait to see your Flakvierling PzKpfw 34(r)! Very much appreciate that you're not taking the easy route of just buying the kit.

@ Remco - Glad you liked the link! Really nice work on your T-34. I've got the 1940 model (Dragon, you'll be glad to hear - got it 30% off rrp ) lined up for the Allied Armour Campaign - got any tips?

@ Mauro - After some it turns out that it was the F-U fairy that brought the carpet monster into existence. Without her, none of our builds would ever run into any problems, so the food-source needed for the carpet monster to evolve would not have existed (I've not been able to confirm their marital status )

@ Sal - How come you're not finished yet? It's been a couple of days

I haven't made any progress - RL stuff needed some attention. I'm intending to have my first go at soldering PE - wish me luck and try and distract the fairy while I'm doing it Still waiting for the 0.8mm bolts - looks like they got lost in the post
Cheers,
Dierk

Dierk ... well just to be nice heres some pics of the one i built a very long time ago ..i think maybe the very early 90's but don't quote me on that ,,it could be earlier ,,its got dust on it but you can still see it fine ..

The next one will be much better than this one .replaced tracks and much more accurate turret measurements but remember this one was 90% guess work cause i only had one pic and not a very good one oh well

@ Phill - considering its age, and the lack of AM stuff available at the time, that is not a bad effort at all! Especially like the natural poses of the figures. Although I can't quite make it out, I think the German slogan might be a bit iffy
You certainly whetted my appetite now!

BTW - still not getting email alerts for this campaign

that German slogan is more than likely way off and that wouldn't surprise me one bit ,,believe it or not but not one of those figures has been modified, there all straight from the box mainly because they just seemed to work and i didnt really know how to modify the figures to get what i wanted then ..i was lucky with these guys
I have a habit of seeing a picture and building the vehicle's if they look cool lol
Don't know about the emails mate ..i've never gotten one about alerts ,,i just keep checking

If you ever want any help with German slogans (or anything else in that language) give me shout - I'm pretty good with the old Krauty language
As you probably know, you can't even trust commercially available transfers - doing soviet armour I found this out the hard way, when a Russian mate of mine pointed out that the poem on the turret of my KV1 sounded like it was written by an 'acid-head' as he put it

Ok Dierk I'm calling this 1 finished now. This was a really cool campaign that I really enjoyed
Photobucket
This kit was a good 1 too no real fit issues or problems
Photobucket
I used some of the Lion Roar PE but not all of it
Photobucket
Photobucket
The marking came from the spare parts box and were Tamyia as well as the figure
Photobucket
I really appreciate all the positive comments and additional comments that help me improve my skills. I tried some new methods with this build and like I said I really enjoyed the kit and the campaign
Looking forward to seeing all the other builds that will be done here, it looks like we will have some really good stuff

@ Sal - astonishingly fast work! And looking good!

@ Phill - You probably have these already, but here's a link to all four known photos Flakpanzer T-34 although I find it hard to believe, but apparently the turret was fixed in the forward position.

I've made a start on the PE antenna-deflector (decided to glue it after all - less chance of provoking the fairy). The Aber set only provides one of the clips that attach it to the barrel, but the F2 used two, so I made an additional one from a piece of fret. There also appear to have been two kinds of deflector - luckily the drawing I'm basing the model on has the F1 version (like the one provided by Aber) saving me at least some work
Can somebody help me identify these? I've not managed to find any photos that allow a positive ID:

Bolts? Rivets? Screws? My guess is bolts.
Cheers
Dierk

Sal..... The KV looks brilliant just like the image on 'BeutePanzer, I still can't believe you've finished all ready? you should build another model so we all don't feel so bad! but you'd probably beat us all again

Regard Duncan.

Hoi Remco - thanks very much! I thought you might come up with an answer!

Not only were the 0.8mm bolts I ordered lost in the post - now the gits have gone on holiday until the end of the month! Typically, they're the only UK supplier. Just ordered some more from Hong Kong (cheaper too!). This shop appears to have absolutely everything the modeller's heart desires hobbyeasy good prices too!

Cheers,
Dierk
