I have suffered an opportunity-driven change of plans... I had planned on doing an ex-Commonwealth Universal Carrier with a 2cm Flak 38 up-loaded for this campaign... But look what the postman left me Friday-last! It's the new Italeri Semovente L/40 da 47/32 kit, and I have mine newly-arrived from, of all places, Hong Kong, in my hot n sweaty hands!
It just screams for me to build it RIGHT NOW, and the clear option exists to do it in an ex-Italian Royal Army German (or maybe even Slovenian) livery (see below instructions image), as these, like other Italian stuff, were seized by the needy Germans right after Italy signed its Armistice with the Allies in SEPT 1943. The tiny L/40 da 47/32 was actually said to be a pretty good thing, in comparison to much of what Italy fielded as "tanks" in WWII... So the lore goes, there may have been around 100 or so of these little crawlers "seconded" by the Germans and used to the end of the war in anti-partisan and other roles.
The kit looks pretty nice - it IS tiny (hardly larger than a Panzer 1A kit - right down there in the tiny tank category and just my size, as I really like the small jobs
) , the moldings look crisp, there's some good detail (but a reasonable parts-count - no Dragon SuperKit, this), there is some interior (it being open-top, there better darned well be some!), there's a small PE fret (including some really cool Italian Army license plates), and the decals look OK. This one comes with link-n-length tracks, so it will be a new experience for me...
So NOW I'm all ready to go, soon as the campaign clock strikes "start"!
This one will, I think, go together pretty fast, and I don't plan on doing too much scratch (OK, new tilt, some details in and out, an antenna and radio, and maybe a top-mounted MG w/ shield, if I can find a reasonable Spandau 08-15, or maybe an MG-13, or perhaps one of those Italian MG... these are the MG types which have been captured in various pics of this thing).
The Uni-carrier and its Flak 38 may also get built in time for this... we'll just have to see!
