@Phil, Jeff S., Jeff T.
Lol, it was a good trip, and yes, I am actually a bit nerdy, even for a modeler. I didn't come to that realization until after I retired from the military and started my post-Air Force job with other nerd brethren. That, and my grown daughter getting me a Father's Day gift consisting of a framed sign which reads "I was uncool before uncool became cool", made me accept and embrace my nerd-ness.

As far as temps go--it is currently 9 deg F here, with a foot of snow still on the ground from two weeks ago. The day I left for Florida it was -3 F. Needless to say, my lovely wife was none to happy that I was heading to a warmer clime and leaving her to deal with the cold.

And being me is pretty...awesome! But most people's lives are, its all in your attitude and outlook. And getting paid to travel to cool places and bench-test F-16 LRUs (avionics parts) helps too. It had been years since I played with a Diffractive Optics (LANTIRN) HUD or FCR Radar Antenna.

Now back to sniffing glue and huffing paint...in a well ventilated area, of course.

Got some of the rough sanding done and then applied a layer of filler on the steed's limbs.

A few years ago if someone had told me that I'd be smoothing and puttying a horse's arse I'd a laughed at him/her. Now here I am doing it.

Here are the two halves with a 1/35th King Tiger for comparison. This kit is a good size.

Does the trademark year on the inner thigh say 1957?? Where have these kits been all my life?

Jeff-
I was thinking of painting it in a tricolor ambush scheme.
But seriously--I usually don't announce what I plan, or want, to do or try. I like to wait and see how something turns out and then describe what I did!
But I'll make an exception here. I'd like to do a basic roan brown with airbrushed white 'socks' on each hoof, color modulate the brown coat of course, and use some oils on the mane and tail. Lofty goals, I know. We'll see how it turns out.

This is what I'd like to enter if I may?

It's a British GPMG in white metal. I think it is around 1/6th scale but I couldn't swear to that.

I've blue tacked a couple of bits together and the bottle behind is a Tamiya 10 Ml paint pot.

This whole Campaign was to be about VEHICLES, but since I allowed a horse and rider I will accept this only if you have a 1/6 soldier firing the gun to go with it. And the soldier must be a kit (not already built) and show that it has not been assembled yet.

How's that?

Oops, sorry Jeff!

Didn't read the campaign bit properly. Will a 1:1 scale ex Jock do instead? I'll pose wth myself firing it from the hip.

Sorry mate, got excited at the chance to build the Gimpy for a campaign. As the campaign is for vehicles then fair is fair (a horse could be classed as a vehicle, a Gimpy can't). I'll withdraw it.

Hi Matt, I got this from a friend that died a couple of years ago (Steve Cruickshank - aka BARV). I've no idea where he got it from but he managed to acquire a Bren Gun in the same scale... Which I also bought from him.

They're very heavy and quite delicate but MAN they'll look extremely striking when built!

I've started the Gimpy so I'll post a couple of pics anyway.

Well, I said it was fine... your decision from here on now.

The addition of the soldier firing the gun will be acceptable.

@Phil--lol. I always hate checking out of hotels 'cause no matter how many times I double check everywhere I always feel I left something behind. I just spent the better part of the week in San Diego, but did not take any plastic on that trip.

The kit is coming along. Did some sanding on the horse halves with the hopes of gluing it together this week. Most of the armor is ready for a metallic base coat also.

@Jeff S.--Oops. Sorry about being the bone of contention. I do thank you for allowing my entry. I was under the impression the campaign was open to vehicles and aircraft, with the possibility of other similarly scaled subject matter. So I'll try to do you proud!

Ooo...something shiny!

I used chrome silver out of a rattle can as a base coat. The seams along the chainmail still need work. The shininess will be toned down with some gunmetal airbrushed on followed by some dark washes.

Gettin' there!

How are you going to "cement" it together, now that there is paint on it?

Love the knight, that's going to look really special!

I got the Gun assembled over the weekend. It was difficult as superglue is barely strong enough to hold it together due to the weight of the metal. I broke most of the main bits apart a couple of times by not being careful enough in handling it.

Here it is next to a 1/35 Challenger 1 to give an idea of size.

I plan to batter it senseless with a black rattle can soon. Hopefully that will give it more strength.

Keith, That looks really good Man. Are you planning any "jousting damage"? Jeff T.

Jeff T.--Hmmm...hadn't thought of that. I know most badly damaged armor pieces were usually replaced. I was planning on some scuff marks and such, but maybe I could do some minor dents on a few parts with the ol' Dremel.

The mount halves are together:

Jeff S.--Luckily the connection points are HUGE and I can do the old-fashioned 'file & sand' and cement the bare plastic together. I was actually presently surprised that a kit this old has 'idiot proof' joints. They molded unique shapes where parts go together: a half moon here, a full oval there, notches all around. There is no way to mix up the left and right thigh and calf, or upper arm/lower arm/hand, or shoulder to torso.

Keep it up. Phil.

Thanks Phil!--Ya know, now that I look at the horse standing on what's going to be it's base I should have gotten two kits and made a pair of bookends!

@Jeff T.--somewhere in-between 'parade ready' and 'battle damaged.' Now I have that Monty Python 'Brave Sir Robin' song from The Holy Grail going through my head..."when danger reared its ugly head Brave Sir Robin turned and fled..."

@Phil--it's the old 1/8 scale Revellogram kit:

Super simple, but kinda fun!
