Hi Tom!

Just 3 days? Nice...

WWII isn't my business, but your Panzer IV looks great.

Cheers!

Marco

Marco,
I'm retired and now my full time job is model making.
I was once told that you should never retire from something, but to retire to something. I have done so, and I'm enjoying it greatly. I will be taking the week off to attend the IPMS USA National show and convention in Loveland Co and will get back to paint and finish the Pz IV early next week.
Regards,
Tom

Tom, I really loved your words!

You're absolutely right about retirement.

Congratulations, if you are retired now is because you gave your great contribution to everyone and at the moment, what matters is you and your family.

Let's wait your Panzer.

Cheers!

Hey guys here are some WIP progress pictures so far, I decided to lay down the coin and buy the Tamiya M1A2 SEP TUSK kit, and I couldn't be happier that I did.

My only thing right now with this kit, is getting the correct color, I did the wheels in Tamiya Dark Yellow, and it just doesn't seem to look right. I know model master makes a dedicated color for the ARMY and USMC in the middle east sand color, so I might just pick up a bottle of that.

Anyways here are some pics and thanks for letting me take part in this build!

I couldn't even imagine trying to build this kit in 1/72! it's hard enough in 1/35 scale. But really though, this is a sweet kit and so far seems to be just going together rather nicely. I'm excited for this build and I was really torn between what to build, I'm glad I choose this!

I made some more progress today, now I just have to wait for the pre shading to dry on the turret and armor panels, then I'm ready for base coat and then assembly! These gun assemblies with the clear windows and other parts are a real test of patience!

Anyways thanks for looking!

Here are the inprocess photos after first pass thru the paint booth. Two more colors to be added, plus markings and weathering.

Hi people!

Jose, is good to see some braile here...

G, another M1, I like!

Tom, looks great.

Here, some new pics of my BMP:

Everything set to paint

I used VA russian green primer

As we have two BMPs here and the first one will be plain green I decided to paint mine in cammo scheme. Over the green base I used the Mr.Color "yellow" and some flat black automotive paint. I liked the final result:

After all, a good hand of Testors' dull cote.

What do you think ?

Cheers!

Thanks for your comment Marco.
The BMP-3 is one of my wanted kits in 1/35. How is the fitting of the Trumpeter kit?

Marco,
I was thinking the same thing about having two overall green BMPs so now we have two 3-color BMPs. By the way, yours is looking great.

Andromeda,
I'm glad someone is doing the Tamiya Tusk for this campaign.

Hi people!

@Jose: The fit is very good, no big problems to build. BTW, I have one AAV w/ EAAK in 1/35 anda I need to start...

@Alex: Thanks man! And I really like cammo vehicles... And about your BMP. Bring us some news.

Cheers!

Marco,
I moved away from the overall green scheme because it muffled the appearance of the ERA. I think the tan helps accentuate the add-on armor. I was going to make it a sort of surprise.

I'm not doing the camo scheme they have shown in the kit's instructions. There's more tan in it than green. I haven't added the black and probably won't so the two BMPs won't be the same.

Here are some final pictures of my build, I really enjoyed building this kit, and for the most part everything went together really easy and really well, granted it was a Tamiya kit, so fit and finish were good! The only thing that was a bit of a bugger was doing all the window work, and trying my very best not to mess those parts up. Thank god for testors clear parts window maker glue.

Marco,
I'm going to have to repaint my BMP-3. The last coat I put on dried funny and it looks really blotchy and is still tacky tot he touch three days after I sprayed it. I think it was either the humidity or the paint. The paint is old but I've used it on other vehicles without problems. Since I'm repainting it, I was thinking of going with a winter or a desert scheme, just for some variety.

What a shame that the paint was not good. If I could choose, I go with the winter. Good luck!

Need some ideas for the tracks. The Bradley ones don't look right. Maybe M-109? Diehl tracks?

I decided to go with the winter camo scheme for the BMP-3. Given the paint problems and shift in colors, I re-primed the vehicle.

I let it sit for a few days. I masked the vehicle with automotive masking tape. For the pattern, I went with a design found for Revell's T-72 with ERA.

Three coats of white. I actually had a little incident at this point. I placed the model out in the sun to dry. It fell. The damage was minimal and should be easily fixed. The side ERA piece took the brunt of the impact.

Paint dried and the masking tape removed.

ERA blocks back on. I had removed both for repainting and had just taped them on.

That's it for now. I'll be adding the green next and we'll see if it works better this go around.
