John:
Done by DEC 2013? Timing sounds GOOD! I'll get in on this one.
How about the Dragon Panzer IV-E "vorpanzer" (up-armored panzer IV versions with added turret cheeks and other plates up front) kit 6301 or the rather similar CyberHobby Panzer F1 "vorpanzer" - would these work?
I have a few "zimmerit" choices and a few with schurzen in the pile - and all looking (screaming out LOUD, even) for a slot on the bench, if this stuff meets the criteria...
Heck, looks like a whole lot of things could fit into this one - I'm sure I have somethings waiting to experience cement and paint...

Glad it's approved John. Not necessarily going to do a panzer IV like I said. It'll be German for sure, with skirt armor. Unfortunately I've already decided to do Tamiya's T-55 Enigma for the Proxy Super-power campaign. It's a rather pricy kit too considering a T-55 is normally 25$. So....generic German armor piece it is!

I might do a Trumpy BMP-3 with the upgraded armor. I have it in the stash and just haven't been enthusiastic about starting it. If things pan out I might do a USMC Sherman at Iwo Jima. I have a few months to decide.

Right, I've had a bit of an accident today. My car ended up up-side-down in a field. I'm fine but I'll be dropping all campaigns. I'll also need to find someone to take over my 'Replacement!' campaign.
I'll still pop in on a couple campaigns but as far as I know right now I haven't got money to be spending on plastic tanks.

Question for our campaign leader
I have Dragons Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.N w/Winterketten
Inbound to me. The kit depicts a Panzer III Ausf.N from s.Pz.Abt.502 as it would have appeared in 1943 during fighting around Leningrad and served as close-support tanks for the units Tiger which I also have inbound
So the question is would the PzIII qualify as protection for the Tiger
Its ok if it dont because I also have a T-34/85 bed-spring kit inbound as well

Hi Sal !
Short answer, no and yes .
I mean, no that Panzer III doesn't qualify , but this Panzer III does
And the T-34 is ok too !
If you have extra armour, side skirts, bed-spring armour, zimmerit, blazer, era blocks, sandbag armour.. etc. it's ok too.
That specific protection /close support(Panzer III + Tiger) ... no. Anyway that's no much protection, I mean a 76mm shot from the russian AT weapons would easily disable the PIII and just bounce back from the Tiger's thick skin...I guess.

Sal:
ABSOLUTELY! That Pz. III was used as a close-support guardian for the Tigers - the Tiger's 88 was fine for dumping Sov tanks "at range", but that Tiger was pretty vulnerable to close-in infantry and guys camped out in ruins and such. The Pz. III with short L/24 7.5cm gun provided building and position-blasting capability to help dissuade infantry from closing onto the Tigers. Probably near to useless against most heavy tanks, and against T-34 from the front, but that L/24 did come with an AT round that would work on A-C and lighter tanks, and which could do real damage even to a T-34 in a closer-in flank shot.
So yes, it was certainly a viable protective agent for those Tigers.
Cheers!
Bob
PS: IF you add on some schurzen, you would, I am sure, qualify with this kit for this "protection" campaign - as the schurzen constitute the added protective stuff being called for, if I read the leader correctly! Of course, that Dragon III-N w/ schurzen kit does this right (and, I think, is actually the same kit minus winterketten and schurzen added in).
I'm actually thinking of doing a III-N with schurzen and winterketten... But you were here first, and I would gladly defer

If this was a HEMMTT Campaign I think it would be great. For this one, I'd probably focus on something that denotes added armor protection instead of one particular vehicle. Not sure how to do that without needing a lengthy explanation.
