Building the Dragon 25pdr w/ Trailer

No 27 Ammunition Trailer
Step 6

In this step you need to assemble the wheels for the trailer. These go together easily, but again the towing eyes in the centre of the wheels must be correctly orientated facing downwards. The only aspect of the wheels I don’t like is the two pin connection between the wheels and the hubs; while this is acceptable in terms of strength it does make aligning the wheels and hubs more difficult than it needs to be.

Step 7

This stage covers assembly of the towing face of the No 27 Ammunition Trailer and the two ammunition trays. Starting with the ammunition trays which are relatively easy to work with, the two trays provided consist of a plastic tray with an etched wrap around. Detail wise they look good, it is just a pity they didn’t include a full load. A word of caution here is to make sure you get the two bends in the photo etched part correct, as it won’t fit otherwise and it is fairly fragile.

The towing face of the trailer goes together very well and with nice detail, although the towing face would normally be hidden by a canvas cover over the tools carried on the trailer. An issue is the handles for the manual movement of the trailer: on the real thing these arms are individually hinged and only unfolded when in action, while the design of this part in the kit would need some more scratch work to depict the trailer being towed. One nicely detailed part of this stage is the sprung suspension unit under the arm, which while not a 100% accurate does have a good profile and is finely moulded.

Hi Darren, Thanks for the review. Seems another rushed Allied job which is a pity. I like the crew, perhaps they will release them separately? I have the Bronco kit which offers more finish choice so it's doubtful I'll bother with this one. Cheers Al

Alan thank you. To be fair to Dragon their offering does include a couple of details that Bronco missed such as the pick axe head however I do agree with you. Also in the interest of fairness I am in the process of writing a build review of the Bronco 25pdr which is taking some time due to the number of parts and miniscule size of some parts. I hope that this way the members here will have the information to make an informed decision on which offering best meets their requirements.

Hi Darren, Yes, there are a lot of parts in the Bronco kit. I've made a start on mine but I have only the barrel made at this point. Look forward to the Bronco review, your write up of the DML kit is very good and comprehensive. Thanks also for the additional reference pics. Cheers Al
