i was thinking of doing something like this myself, but more of a "military unit vs. a horde of zombies" just for fun.

i liked this one
http://2photo.ru/uploads/posts/1/20080110/jake_amp_dinos_chapman/10_01_2008_0412232001199997610_jake_amp_dinos_chapman.jpg

the guy on the left looking up is great.

they could have put more detail in their work . the slinky "barbed wire" on top of the fences is a little cheesey and the proportions of alot of the figures is off a bit . i think that if they made everything a bit more realistic it would me more artistic.

Actually when I was a teenager I visited this miniatures show in Colombo (mostly cars and trains, but a few figs, tracks, ships and aircraft), and there was this dio someone had done of Vietnam. But instead of basing it on reality, as most usual dios are done, he'd based it on various writers' works, including Michael Herr and Paul Scott. So parts of the dio were actually hallucinations and LSD trips. It was fantastic. There were purple and orange Marines shooting wounded VC in a paddy, except the VC all had eight legs like a spider. Stuff like that. There was a Huey landed in an LZ, but it had huge moulded on loudspeakers instead of cargo doors and dragonfly wings instead of rotors. Part of the dio had an American midwest town in it, with a Nam vet aiming a hunting rifle out of a window. At one corner of the dio (it was huge and 1/35 I think) was this 12-foot tall plaster of paris fig of LBJ hovering zombie-like over everything. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen, and I wish I'd had a camera.

Most of us faithfully reproduce historical scenes, and while that takes a lot of talent and patience, it isn't particularly creative or entertaining to non-modelers (except maybe what JB does) -- most of whom think we're anal weirdos. So while I know that the work in point wasn't done as a dio, don't knock it 'cos it isn't within your view of what art or modeling is. If the thread didn't belong here, I'm sure it would've been removed. But there are many views of history, and not all of them follow the dry military minutiae that mainstream modeling does. Wouldn't it be boring if the libraries were filled with just military histories and the radio played only marching tunes?

Chill, folks. It's a colourful world, not a black & white one, or even an OG one. Try and enjoy it.

LOL!

Well MY (own personal) opinion, without the intention of hurting anyone's feelings, is that this Dio is total crap. Of course it is art, (lol) anything that's surreal or can't be explained falls under the category "art".

We have an "artist" here in Austria who framed the dump he took one morning and sold it,... the people who buy this crap (literally) are worse than the artists themselves. We also have another "artist" here painting his pictures with cow blood,... how much sicker can it get?

Again, I for myself (without the intention of hurting any art fans's feelings) think the creators are totally nuts and a little bit of realism and "old fashioned art" (like great oil paintings or sculptures) would do the world some good!

Again, this is my point of view, I am not trying to generalyse anything!

On the same line of thought...What do you care if peole are upset and don't like it. You need to chill out too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. As you can tell, it hasn't been deleted or locked yet.

Well, I have seen much worse and more pointless things sell for hundreds of thousands as art (just look at minimalism)

Is this good art? Not really. It's too jumbled so it's hard to even tell what the point is. Looks like you got prisoners hijacking Tigers, and bum-rushing a watch tower. And then theres the MickyD's.
But I think it's still art. I think it's art just as much as any other dio or model on this site.
Just because it's offensive to some and crude to others doesn't disqualify it as art. As some said earlier, art isn't all just fine portraits of royalty.
I believe there is a message there, it's just lost in all the confusion. So the only problem with this dio is it's execution. It would have been better off to just scale it down a bit and organise it better.

And I for one think it's a real shame that it got destroyed.

Yea I guess it could be called art. It's nothing I would ever model, and I don't particularly enjoy looking at it.

I'm not ashamed to say that whenever I am figure modelling, and required to do some conversions (such as slicing off a hand or arm) I get a sickening, spine tingling feeling. I couldn't have stomached making this diorama thats for sure.

Oh, for God's sake, can someone move, lock or otherwise forget about this damned thread?

Pity more interesting items were given the same attention as this was. It isn't a diorama (well, it wasn't planned as such) it's an 'Artistic' statement (clutches own throat) ..

I agree with Jim...I think this topic has been "beat to death" and IF there is still a moderator active on the Diorama forum please lock this topic.

Instead of giving input and wasting time on a thread that hasn't been active since June, this time could be better spent giving feedback or help to those who display their projects in the diorama forum.

oh dear......

1 don't lock it! people are expressing oppinions, thats a good thing
2 i liked it! just because the artist used a readily available supply of figures, vehicles etc does not mean they are modelers. far from it.....
3 on may the 25th AJLaFleche posted a few Bosche paintings... i love bosche's paintings because you can find lots of little vignettes in them... try it some time, they are disturbing, cruel and quite debased, they are visions of a "medieval" hell.
4 these guys are unorigional in their entire concept, they have taken modern icons and mythology to create something disturbing, cruel and debased.. almost copies of bosche..i still like it.

please don't lock this thread, when it was first discussed i was being hassled on a popular web site modeling forum for making a joke! it was'nt a funny joke just a double entendre....

leave the bones in the forums..... carefull readers will not choke!

can't we all just agree that we all disagree?

since I am for freedom of speech I do not think we should close the topic but since this seems to be not anymore about modelling can we at least move it to a non-modelling related forum?

..................... It increhíble. The forum, divided between the intelligence and prejudice that are nothing good.
To talk about art and philosophy .... there is no time. The art does not seek simple harmony. Find the beauty of truth. And this diorama, is the truth of all wars. I am in the side of those who did not criticize the diorama. But I find shocking. And if the artist has tried to influence the public ..... conseguído it has much in ARMORAMA. .... Jorge.....

Im Sorry, but in my humble opinion this is just a big heap of poo.To then find that it was destroyed in a fire seems like divine intervention, the good lord`s way of having the final critique on this P.O.S.
To me,a fantastic realization of the hell of war comes in the diorama made for the Halo 3 video game (if someone can post a link to this, other members can see what a piece of "war art" should look like). This is just pretentious crap and a waste of good plastic, also perhaps the solicitors for McDonalds might want to take a look at it - AND SUE THE ASSES OFF `EM !!!

Man, I agree with you!

........ Good. ... Without any intention of creating useless controversy or offend. .... I see the Diorama which has a very clear language. It Subrrealista and Espresionista, very shocking and languages that hide what I interpret as well. ..:
The Macgonald is power. The Money. The real reason for any war.
If the war in the Vietna, the state arms business, was the reason. (Not communism or capitalism) In the war in Iraq ... try to control the oil in the Middle East.
Today the world governing multinationals. Not an emperor. Is money the God and emperor.
The Nazi army .... is not relevant. Is any army and people, who manipulated for power ... is used to smash their bodies. Using their minds and bodies in an orgy of death, only for a few enrriquecerse who also leave them worse off. Therefore, the Magdonald has shattered the ceiling.
A nation will be free when its citizens can decide the make war or not. And expel their corrupt politicians.

.......... Well, fellas. Let me explain a conjecture that is food for thought. Part of his comrades who have laid MISSING forum because of the diorama and I said to this: take damage ... I think it's also a matter of deep TABOO for you that involves sex and meat for lunch and to link this with the Mac Donald. But I think we understand with certainty the diorama, only supposed to relate the economic power of Multinational Corporations, with the Wars and the Human Being is a predator to your neighbor. (The man is a wolf to man)
My purpose is to clarify what happened. But you may already .. is not necessary.

while gross and rediculous this dio may seem, I do think it was a good idea for a "HELL" dio.. however, I think it would have been taken better by viewers if the politics and "idea" of Nazis had been left out all together. The title being "hell" , I think it would have been understood better if it had been a fiery ,hellish place , leaving out the German uniforms and vehicles ,..and the McDs, and just left it what the title says.. HELL .. where torment, death, evil, and all related dimented things are represented. BUT,. since he didnt do that.. it looks as if a sick ,mentally ill person made this, rather than an artist trying to portray an idea.
