Part of the problem may be that folks are looking at this as model builders and figure painters. It doesn't quite fit into the box of accepted perception and comfort and further creates an uncomfortable interpretation of the piece.
The old saying "one man's art is anothers graffitti" definately applies here. Like it or not, and like grafitti you can either get mad at the vandals, ignore it or see the beauty of it. Either way, it affects anyone how? Despite the many protests the topic is certainly revisted enough, if its so bad, ignore it. Don't revisit it and save the amens and halleluja's for the Sunday service. Childishly done it is, but the message is in the execution and overall subject not the mecahnics. Its just not that type of piece. Personaly I like the similarities to Bosch and the scope of the project but thats about it. It neither elicits horror or admiration from me and it is what it is. Much like Pollack or Cristo even Picasso bores me. It is withing their right and ability to so use their resources and efforts to create such pieces, that is the nature of being human, sentient thinkers. We play and create. Interpreting that creation as we see fit.

From a modeling standpoint, I see this as no different than Bob Tavis's works (strange fruit, zoot suit riots), or some others that have shown the very essence of the brutality of war and human nature. (My god why have you forsaken me, the dio of the family lined up at the edge of a pit to be executed and the little girl holding the doll) These in some respects do the same thing, they were made to ellicit some visceral response and to strike a sympathetic or emotional chord within. The role of art? from taggers to industrial to musicians to electronic all attempt to convey some emotion or ideal through their chosen medium.

The piece itself only matters as much as you allow it to.
