Looks pretty gruesome and rediculouse to me. As with most huge dios, it has no focal point, no real story to tell, and is a collection of other scenes thrown together. The vehicles and figures don't look to be painted well either. Sorry, but It doesn't look that good to me. Just because it is big doesn't make it good.

This is actually a piece of 'art' entitled 'HELL' by British conceptualist 'artists' Jake and Dinos Chapman, that was displayed in a series of nine glass cases arranged into the shape of a swastika.
As a piece of art it is pretty poor especially as the duo simply dreamt up the concept and had most of the construction carried out by assistants.
As a diorama it is crude, poorly executed and, in a lot of areas, grossly offensive.
No doubt the Saatchi gallery paid an obscene amount of money for it.
It's the kind of sad stunt that gives modelmaking a bad name.

YEah, Im with Gino on this one. Its a shame to spend so much time and money on something so ridiculous. I see the modeller added a McDonalds there. They must have put some good drugs in those Whoppers.

Actually it's not all bad news as I've just discovered the piece was destroyed in a warehouse fire in 2004 along with another 100 or so pieces of 'art'...

Sorry to burst your bubble there Craig but this kind of 'art' has NOTHING to do with conveying the scale and brutality of war and EVERYTHING to do with increasing the notoriety and fortunes of its creators.
If you want to see real art that deals with the horrors of war then go and visit the War Museum in London and see paintings by people who have actually experienced it.
Don't fall prey to the cynical, pretentious and ultimately worthless crap being touted by these morons and the whole Britart scene.

As I looked at the pics I could not help but think how gruesome and awful the dio was. Given the size and the number of figures involved I could not help but think how time consuming this dio was. I could not in any lifetime imagine surrounding myself with all of that gruesome mess for as long as it took them to construct it, says alot about the "artist" that designed it and built it. I agree that dio has vey little to do with scale model building an armor

Hi there
Sorry to be contrary to other peoples thoughts here, but if this had been, say warhammer figures with sci-fi vehicles and the like, some would have praised the builder for using a lot of imagination to put the thing together.
Weird ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
ugly ,,,,,,,,,,,,,possibly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
offensive ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe to some!!!!!!!!
Not necessarily a dio builder on acid,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but certainly some consepts that would challenge your own thoughts about rights and wrongs. It certainly has raised an eyebrow or two on this forum. Is that a wrong thing

Well, I think it's a waste of figures and time. Makes no sense.
But then again, if it doesn't make sense, it's "surreal".

A lot of fuss over nothing ... in my books .... both there and here!
Ok, its not to everyones taste, but armor modelling doesn´t always have to be a tank and 3 guys drinking tea beside it. Some people choose to use models to make a point or say something. Thats their buisness, their money and their time.
Im not sure what the creator´s goal was, but the quality of the work wasn´t that important to him. But if he was out after a reaction ... he´s got it here ... therefore will be considered as art and he has succeded ... even among modellers who can pick out kits and figures they recognise .... and ironically have built themselves.
Sometimes its good to think outside the box.

I posted a topic awhile ago asking if you where a modeler or a artist and this is one of those points I had when asking that. This dio is far from a modeler this is considered art.Me I consider this dio art work.Because a modeler does a piece of history and a artist does what he has to express them selfs as.
I don't know if it's good art but I know it's not a dio that should represent any part of history. The basic art or modeling part has good painting, weathering, etc.But the theme so far has come with negative feedback. And has really hit a nerve in some way shape or form on this forum.
Happy Modeling

Thank GOD for the fire!!! This steaming pile of hemp rope is right where it needs to be, in the city's landfill. What absolute garbage, literaly and figuratively. This isn't art, just the work of a seriously ill escaped mental patient. I pitty those of you who try to defend and justify this absurdity. JMO.

There is precedent in the art world, e.g., Hieronymus Bosch,
and Picasso's Guenica
That said, my first thought was George Romero interprets Hieronymus Bosch.

Good point Frank and if it was the artists intention to get a reaction he succeded, however does that qualify it as art?
