G'day Alan, I really appreciate the comment... sorry for not replying earlier.

Well... after a long period of no modelling, I took a break from study to work on some more diorama stuff.

Inspired by this product from Plus Model (?)

I have been trying to create a wine barrel. Sorry for the bad pics, it's dark and stormy here. Using this stripped down torch body as a base.

And adding putty.

A few strips of plasticard.

Bits and bobs. Still a bit of sanding and final wood panel scribing to do.

Leaking wine.

Thanks for bearing with me,

Chas

Hi Chas,
The wine barrel is looking good and IMO has much better character already than the manufactured ones. The seeping wine will look spot on. As I’ve said before you have the touch mate.

Cheers,
Paddo

Hi chas,

Nice looking barrel...
But why not use real wood to make it?
For modelling, I use a lot of Ceder-wood, wich comes with some cigars to lighten them up.
It's very fine and easy to use...
Even for the curves you can make it wet and shape it a bit.
Here's a pic of a dio I'm making at the moment, where I used some (scale is 1/72)

And for the reinforcements of the barrel I would use lead foil (from the old wine bottles )
Then you woldn't have the gap on top of them...

Just suggestions I make mate

Cheers Paddo, thanks for your nice comment. I'm glad you think it has character.

Hi Beyond, thanks for the tip, I will look out for some cedar wood. Anywhere else I can get it apart from with pipes?

There were 2 reasons I didn't opt for real wood. Firstly because I don't have anything apart from balsa (which would snap), secondly because the strips need to be convex (don't ask for the math). I figured these angles would be too hard to carve in wood, so I carved the milliput instead because it doesn't matter so much if your angles are out.

Jaymes and Martyn, cheers for your comments. Yummm... melted plastic wine.

Great to hear from you Richard.

Photos of painted barrel coming soon...

Hi Chas!
Sorry for the delay answering to your mail.
Due to heavy load of work I finally found some time to look for your airbrush matter.
Having both airbrushes, yours with small attached cup on the body, and the precision -a nice copy of olympos 101,with the cup right aside him- both uses 0,2mm nozzle tips. The difference is that the one I can send you, fits in as it is 0,2mm but you will have problems with your needle,as it's body is a bit wider for the fine thin needle of yours.Probably air will flow in causing bubbles in your cup suppose.I will try some time to send you a photo to see the difference,or I can send it for a try and if you are not satisfied, send it back.
Regards,
Zisis

Oh, that’s ok.

I have found a website that sells replacements. I’ll just buy a new nozzle instead of you sending me one… just in case it is too big!

Thankyou so much for your offer and assistance!

haha that airbrush thing happened to me too. It was only a cheap one from ebay so i bought the premi-air G35 from the triple airbrush reveiw on here. it's a very good AB for the price. i'd stil like to get my old one working again, it seems silly to throw it away for such a tiny part. what was the website for spares?

Hi Luke, the site is here: http://www.everythingairbrush.co.uk/acatalog/Airline_Accessories_and_Hoses.html

Here is my painting so far, I could have done better so I might strip the paint and start over.

Don't take any notice of the wine jet yet. It will have a nice curve to it eventually, as it's going to be set in a puddle of resin.

Hi Chas,
Maybe you should have done the barrel in paper or light cardboard. It seems a bit round looking, I mean not sharp enough.
Cool paintjob though.

Bye,
Alex.

Chas great painting skills! The barrel looks superb!
Is there a way of bringing out the wood grain?

Hi Chas,

I sure agree with Jaymes.

As I was showing your photos to Annie she not only was impressed she said she wanted one to cut in half and plant flowers in. I suggested they would have to be very small flowers.

Finally some time today to get back to the build.

Thankyou Alex, it was good to chat with you the other day. Matthew, thanks for your kind offer. Jaymes, thanks... I hope I can improve the wood grain further.

Paddo, please thank your wife for her nice comments. We used to have a barrel pot plant but it rotted away...

I thought I might do something a little different and document my progress on video for a change.

This was my first time editing a video and I apologise for the sound quality.

Nice vid. It was funny when you cut the parts from the sprue and they would get loose and fall to the floor.
That is so universally common to all of us. Happen to me three times today. If there is going to be an icon or logo of a model builder, a silhouette of a person reaching around under their bench would be as accurate as a person meticulously building while seated at the bench.

Hi Chas,

That's a nice way of sharing with us
The figure is looking good, can't wait to see them painted...

I have noticed you use your knife to get some glue out of the needle, you can also use a flame, hold it on the end of the needle, ande the glue will burn up (be carefull, it can burn a little while), but you won't damage your X-Acto....

Hi there Chas

That is some real nice work and it is coming together so right.

I gave up burning the glue out of the needle because I saw the fine bits of real black soot fly off into the air and almost fill my room with tiny spots of black on all the near white walls.

Then some of the soot finally landed on the white sheets of plasticard and on the table.

Looking forward to your progress updates.

Hello Chas,

Splendid way to share what you’re about. Annie was fixing popping corn which fit right in with watching your flicker. Also, we both send kudos on the finished barrel.

Cheers,
Paddo

KoSprueOne, tell me about it. I'd make a good forensic cop, I'm always on my hands and knees searching for tiny objects on the floor!

G'day Beyond, nice to hear from you again. If I ever get any major blockage I'll take your advice. Nige, I make models in the backyard shed so I don't really need to worry about scorching walls, ceilings or carpets! Thanks for your concern though.

Milvehfan, I'm glad you like the video. I hoped it would be a nice change and it was good fun making it. If only I could get the audio problem sorted out I would start doing videos more often.

Paddo and Annie, you watched it till the end? I was hoping you would catch the barrel. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

Seb. I know, I know. My birthday is the 26th so you can give me some new camera/audio equipment if you want.

Thanks for all the comments guys. If you enjoyed the video and would like to see more, why not subscribe?
