Wilkommen you all in my newly made thread !
That's the title of my new diorama in progress.
The diorama will show an old brick gate somewhere in Normandy, after the D-day landings.
I started building this gate, using cork the famous "Blockhaus way". This Spanish modeller creates stunning buildings, as everbody knows here.
Anyway, this cork technique is just ideal for this kind of job.
The leftovers of early balsa projects to be recycled now :
The balsa base, partially covered with cork :
Guy.

Thank you guys.
I continued finishing the cork story. Only the back side still has to be done.
I brushed on thinned wood glue to make the cork stronger and harder.

Very good start Guy, I am not familiar with the cork technique and the Spanish master. Does he have a book or where can I find out more about this technique. Thanks and I look forward to seeing more of your project.

Blockhaus has posted a few threads on his work on this site, so a search should bring up something, failing that Scott Lodder has an article under features which shows how to use thin sheet cork to represent bricks, blocks etc.
See it, and lots more valuable gems on modelling in Features
Here is Scott's
http://armorama.com//features/751
Hope it helps.
...and Guy, this is looking really good, makes me want to have a go. Well done.

Hey Claude, your opinion means a lot to me, I know what a talented person you are in diorama making. Tx mon ami !
Scott, to make the cork stronger and harder, I brushed on thinned wood glue. It works great !
And I also added the plaster, easy : brush on - wipe off the exess. ("Wax on, wax off !").
It looks good, I'm glad with the result at this moment.
Ivanhoe, he shows his work here, same forum, just stunning what he makes.
Hey my friend, you'll see my cork gate live soon I hope.
James, I don't know what you ment by "ekse" ?
Alan, go for it, it's magnificent this product.
Martyn, tx mate.

HI Guy, excellent job, excellent dessing:-) Is a good sample of that we can obtain with this material.I these photos I cannot see if all pieces is sanded afther the plaster (or spackle) is applied, this "kill" the sharp corners and bricks too prominet giving to stone and bricks and look more old.
Congratulations for the results and hope to see finish the work
Carlos

Hey Carlos, thank you for your constructive reply, this is what I really need.
I wasn't sure about the sharp edges (I sanded already, but now you've told me to sand a bit here and there to make the stones look older, I'll give it another shot after the plaster attack ! Again, tx !

My jaw hit the ground when I saw the gate. Even in it's raw state the effect is remarkable. I think I'm gonna give this a try. Thanks for the link to the SBS by Scott. It's just what I need.

Hi
You know the things you've done are all that have been done before but you show that it's not just about knowing the techniques it's how you put them into practise and I have to say even at this stage of the model it just looks "so right".
You could leave it unpainted and it would still look excellent.
Looking forward to updates.
Alan

Phil, thank you and I'm glad you like it so far. It will be a challenge for cork is new material to me. I'll take my time to make it work.
Matt, thank you. Please pick up your jar my man ! It goes straightforward and I hope it will continue this way !
Alan, thank you too, I can hardly wait to start the build of another project in cork. But first things first, this must look the real thing when finished.
The photo I used to finish the roofs :
Left roof part :
Right roof part (not finished yet : rain pipe, gutter.)
Cu later ! G.

Guy
That stonework is beautiful. I think it looks fantastic as it is as the quality of stone varies from quarry to quarry and stone to stone so some stone will hold its edges better than others. Even the individual way the mason beds each stone and the detail carved by the mason may determine how the stone weathers through the ages.
Absolutely fabulous.

It looks excellent Guy. The cork method is definitely the way to go for stone/brick buildings.
