Adding a table can be good for contrasts, certainly if the table is painted like this one.
May be a little bit more sanding to make the surface smoother ? But in my opinion it's a good idea !

I've recently lost a bit of my modelling mojo, considering that I can't see an "happy end" for both of my current project (alps and Crete). I've ideas, that I can't deal with, cause I must finish the dioramas I've begun. The matter is that i'm a bit tired of both.

Alexandre,
I know that feeling all too well, unfortunately. Don't know if you've noticed, but the build log I started has not had any updates in weeks (maybe months...I haven't even checked.) I started doing dio bases on commission again, and honestly I need to stop because it is taking time away from my own stuff and causing me to loose my passion for building.
...Sorry for using your thread to whine...
Maybe you need to just build a kit OOB. No extra detailing, etc. maybe that will help.
Anyway, you do fabulous work!! Both of your dios are excellent and I, we, would love to see more!!!
Bill.

Bill K, I believe Alexandre will not think you are whining about not completing unfinished business.
Building on commission is good, but you know it kills your own drive.
Btw I hope to see progress soon from you A.

Hi there!
I really like the figure with the grenades under his belt, looks pretty cowl! Maybe you can smoothen/round the edges of the table a bit for a nicer finish? I'd put the table on the plateau if I were you.
Salut!

Alex, great job,I'm impressed. As a matter of fact, I bought some cork for my next build instead of pouring a plaster sheet cut and scibbing. Thanks for the insperation. By the way, a downspot for your gutter will hide that corner, been there too! . Mistakes are good if you learn from them and sharing here, we all learn.

Do you ever care of atmosphere in your builds? I mean, feelings, perceptions?
That's what I focus first.
When your eyes see something, your perception of it will be influenced by your mood, by the temperature, luminosity.
The matter here is'nt to depict an holiday diorama.
Diorama making is all about. When you deal with concepts as abandonment, dereliction, empty feelings, then your palette will turn white grey. Then the colors will appears used, washed.
There's no way to turn it on a postcard style, cause that's not my feeling with Merkur.
Desaturate the color range is a way among other to display some thought.
Cause I don't live in a world where the earth is brown, the grass is green and the water is blue.
The very only dogmas in diorama making I think are atmosphere and composition. No more.
Nothing that tells : "for a good diorama, be sure you do the same as in your coloring book, be sure that your grass is green."
Best,
Alexandre
Hello Guy, Hello Alexandre, Hello all:
Reading Sheperd Paine's "Tips on Building Dioramas," as a youth in the 1970's, it felt wrong when he suggested "Avoid reddish browns because they don't look right." This is too cut-and-dry. It seemed wrong to watch model buddies at a club meeting argue over paint-chips, and the authenticity of model colors. They seem detached. Over the years I have read numerous articles about the potential of scale modeling in the fine arts. I must say, the quote above, and the May 2009 pictures to go with it, are the best, and the most accurate expression on creativity that I have encountered in the modeling community.
You are right. The soul--perception and feelings [do you feel closed in or do you feel open and free]--is the origin of form and color.
Thank-you for taking the time to spread this work out over the months. Most threads expire before I have time to contemplate the matter.
Love, HEINE-07

Hello gentlemen,
Thanks all for the comments.
Rick, I'm really flattered by this comment, but, well, you're wrong. There's on the diorama section here a lot of people who does far better job than me in term of creativity or feelings. Check out the work of my friends Guy or JBA, or the work of Claude Joachim.
By the way, you're words are just so cool to read, and you saved my day.
Hello Guy! Can I say the same about you? I'm not in Cretan mood this time, I'm painting figures for a next small project.
I would love to manage to finish this Crete diorama, but I'm blocked, no inspiration, as we have talked about early July. And you, what about an update on Wilkommen? Holidays for the belgian-master-diorama-builder?
By the way, it's time to finish it..
Merci Julien,

You are right Alexandre, look who's talking ! But I've had serious computer problems, so updating was out of the question.
But I kept working on the second house and an update is coming up soon.
You need inspiration to make it great, so just wait until it's back.
Enjoy your other projects meanwhile.
Cheers mate ! G.
