One of the biggest gripes of the veterans was that the Korean war was simply forgotten by the public, I have even seen a book about the conflict called "The Forgotten War"

Perhaps we can add this into the campaign title ?

Ian

Ian, good idea, I was planning to call the campaign: "The Forgotten War: Korea 1950 - 1953"

I was also planning to put a short abstract of the Korean War into the "Operational Overviwe" field describing the Campaign.

Have you submitted it yet?

Bob.

Nope, but I'm getting there. No hurry, we still have 8.5 months... I am working on some banners on and off though, will be posting them for y'all's comments soon.

Not sure about the M41 Bob, I thought it was never used in combat by US forces. Don't know if Wiki is the right source for such a detail... Can anyone shed any light on that?

Cheers!
Stefan

Stefan, I think that I will go with an M 41 since the price of $12.oo is too good to pass up. It saw limited service in Korea to iron out it deficiancies according to Wikipedia. Have you submitted it yet?

Bob.

Hello Bob & Stefan,
I have found that about 30 M-41 were sent to Korea to see how the tank worked in the extreme heat and cold. There is one case that 5 of them were called up to give fire support during the spring of 1953 when both the UN command and the Chinese were taking and losing different hills while the peace talks were going on.
Stefan, You are the campaign leader so it is your call. But I think that the model should be allowed as it was in the War Zone and did fight at least once that I can find.
If you want, I will go tomorrow to the storage unit where most of my books are (12,000+) and see if I can find out some more about the M 41 and what combat did it see. Just let me know if you want me to dig in that HUGE pile of books for more info.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hello Bruce,

Been a while, thanks for the information. 12,000+? WOW and I thought my brother was a book hound, I have helped him move his too many times to care any more. My back gave out the last time, any way AGAIN thanks. I could only find what I posted before which was not enough to give unit reports or the outcome.

Allright, if it did see combat it will of course be allowed. With the right markings if possible, or as a prototype (otherwise someone will come and model a P51 with 1944 markings because the plane was used in Korea... ). Hope that's OK for you Bob?

Thanks for the research Bruce, I learn something new every day here. I don't think it's necessary to dig through your 12'000 books... Amazing number! Maybe by the time the campaign starts you will have those books on some shelves...

Cheers!

Hello Bob,
Those books are near the house in a climate controlled storage unit.
I have about 5,000 at the house and I rent 8 other units for the rest of my books.
I did a Cross check on how many books I have for insurance renewal and stopped at over 50,000 books. I think I have close to 100,00 if I ever get a round and do a card catalog to see what I have,
Do you want me to go and look over all of the books and see if I can find some more info about the M 41 and its role in Korea? It might take a week or two to got over all of them. Let Me know if you need some more info.

And yes I am about to buy a used book store inventory that went out of business. So I will add another 10,000 to 15,000 more books for my "little" collection.
Cheers,
Bruce

A glutten for punish eh! Bruce, all of those books and not enough time to read them all (reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode with Burgess Meridith). If and I mean if you have some free time would you let me know what markings were used by an M41 in Korea. I am not bad with a 10 key and a PC and exel if you need help with cataloging

@ Stefan: thanks for the OK, I just could not pass up that $12.oo Tamiya kit.

Oh that is very understandable... There are too many things hard to pass up... My wife suggested I go to my LHS on the weekend. Can you believe it? And then I heard myself say "no I shouldn't, I already have too much stuff..." I must be losing my mind...

Cheers!

Well now, that was quick! Thanks Gary!

Don't forget to sign up here!

So, for now it looks like we'll be having mostly M46 and M41... I'll be building an M46 myself. Hopefully we'll get some ships and planes too, maybe some figures.

Cheers!

There is no mention of the T41 being fielded in Korea in R.P. Hunnicutt's "Sheridan: A History of the American Light Tank, vol 2". According to his book, the T37 and T41 were tested at Fort Knox and Aberdeen. Note that the T41 had a very different turret from the T41E1 (M41). The Wikipedia article doesn't mention that (or the T41E1 at all). Not saying which is right, just that there is some doubt.

Sorry for the double post, I tried to post my ideas for banners but the resolution is really bad. I think I'll ask Andrzej, he doees great work.

I just found out browsing through the galleries in my lunch break that there was a "Remember Korea" Campaign back in 2004/5. It's about time we had another one! Here is the link to the gallery for some inspiration.

Cheers!
Stefan

PS: Seems they let the M41 in on that Campaign as well. Let's see what Bruce can find on the subject.

I intend to build a M16 as my main entry, followed by a M39, I have most of the parts for both models already in hand.
I also have a Dragon M4A3E8 that I started many years ago that may get completed, although that one will not count as its part built.
