Jesper, nice work on the banners! Have a couple of

on me!

I had something like that in mind as well, only I had the two Korean flags on the sides. I also had one with an Aircraft Carrier. But I didn't have the right programs to get them right...
I guess I'll do a ribbon then!
Cheers!

OK, I'm interested. Looks like I have an F-80C and a couple of F2H's in the stash.
Dates are 1/1/11 to 12/31/11 right?
Guess If I start now I stand a chance of finishing by 1012.

The Tamiya M41 is another one of those projects I've started, packed away to move and never got back to.

If memory serves, I've managed to cut out the commander's vision ports and replace them with bits of clear sprue, filled in the undersides of the sponsons and filled in the motorising holes. Maybe even something to fix up the exhaust pipes and assemble the wheels. Then back into the box and move halfway across the country.
IRCC the tank was nick named for Gen Walker after he was killed in Korea.
For what it's worth:
Wiki sez:
Quoted Text
The Walker Bulldog saw limited combat with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, but for the most part, the conflict served as a testing ground to work out the tank's deficiencies, especially with its rangefinder. At the time, it was designated as the T-41, and was rushed to the battlefield even before its first test run.[citation needed]
That seems pretty non-comital. But, Combat Lancer sent F-111's into combat in Vietnam before testing was completed stateside. Korea in 1950 seems like more desperate times than Vietnam after Tet. So it could have happened.

Thanks for the comments on the banners. I might do a couple more next week with the flags as suggested.
Looking forward to get started

The M41 has no rangefinder so Wikipedia must mean the T41, which has a totally different turret from an M41.

Thanks for the information Gary that settles the argument with myself regarding research so far.
Well I guess this means another choice is in order

now to do some research

What do I want to build

well Stefan back to the drawing board.
Hey I should have purchased a couple more of those Tamiya M41s at that price, guess there will be a campign in the future for that kit.

Maybe I will come up with an idea.

Hello Robert,
After searching through a couple of hundred boxes of books, I did find a very bad photo of the M-41 in Korea.
It was taken at a depot and from what I can make out they were cammo the same as any other tank. They had on the back what looks like PTC and a number.
The caption read " Provisional Tank Company which were numbered 1-30 have seen limited action at the end of 1952 to the peace of 1953." This book was published in 1955 and I only have 8 of the 40 chapters with no title page or anything else.
My other reference shows that they seen limited combat action and mostly were used for stress tests. I think that that means the 30 tanks were sent over to Korea to see how well they would hold up under the conditions that made Korea such a lovely place to fight a war.
I did try to scan the photo, But it is so bad that I could not get it to clear up.
I guess that it is up to the campaign leader to say if this type of tank is allowed. I will keep looking, But I have only gone through 5% of the books I have and It takes alot of time to go through each box.
Cheers,
Bruce

I signed up with the intent of building the F-86, or if I come into money the M-39 (I have the M-18 from AFV Club already on hand.) However, if someone will release the M41 155mm SPG in plastic I would be extra happy as I could represent the 222nd field artillery battalion which comes from down south.

Bruce, thanks for your efforts and what you have found should do. Lets give it to the CL to determine as you said. If not no big deal, I love to cut plastic on no matter what I build. My hat is off to you Bruce

I wanted to do the M41 also but I think I will do a M24 Chaffee light tank or a M26 Pershing. I'm still undecided about which one to build.

Hello Robert & Andrew,
I know I have a set of the U.S. Army operations in the Korean Conflict/War some where. I will keep looking for it.
I do have a Beu. of Ordinance handbook that shows all the weapons used in the Korean Conflict/War and I think I know where it is IE: which storage unit.
If I find that I can give you a complete list of all weapons used in Korea 1950-1954.
I will search that unit this weekend it only has 500+ boxes of books.
As for what I am planing to build. I think I will build the USS Boxer a Aircraft Carrier that was used for Close Air Support. It will have some Corsairs and even some Panthers on board.
I will continue the search.
Cheers,
Bruce

Bruce, again thank you for the help and effort on your part. I like the USS Boxer (retired navy myself)but I cannot at the moment remeber if it was of the Essex Class

I will have to look it up when I get home.

Bob, per DANFS:
Quoted Text
(CV-21: dp. 27,100; l. 888'; b. 147'6"; dr. 28'7"; s. 33 k.; cpl. 3448; a. 12 5"; cl. Ticonderoga)
I think that means she's a Ticonderoga Class. 8^( Sorry.

Mark, I went to
1. Wikipedia and they state for CV21 Essex class.
2. this site states CV21 Ticonderoga
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-b/cv21.htmwow! it looks like if you do not have reliable references the internet is a minefield. I will go with your findings of the USS Boxer being of the Ticonderoga class. Still a lovely boat with airplanes on it

I will be following your build.

Bob, same site, different page describes the difference.
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/usnshtp/cv/cv14cl.htm Tycos are Essexes with longer hulls to support the 2 x 40mm Quad AA guns on the bow. Probably still had the tubs in 1950's, but I'll let someone else track that down.
I'm leaning towards a F2H-2 for this build but I haven't given up on an F-80C yet.

Mark are you old enough to remeber Hawks Banshee? Still a decent kit if you are looking for an easy build I think the kit is an F2H or 1.

Old enough to remember Hawk. Can't say I can recall their F2H. Still remember wanting to save up for their 1/72 AU-1 Corsair. Thought that they were 'high' end kits, till I actually bought some (Testors re boxes) as an adult.

Thank you Bruce for all your time you are putting in research. The aircraft carrier is a a neat idea I was also thinking of doing a HO4S-3 helicopter USMC HRS-2 Korea. So much to chose from.

Wow, you boys have been active during my absence, couple of days on business trip. Well now, I see the M41 issue has been sorted somewhat... So now it's up to me...
Since we have confirmation that there were M41 in theatre (wether in combat or not) during the designated time frame I will allow them if they are built accodingly (markings as far as known and early features).
Are you OK with that or am I too harsh? Sorry, only the second campaign I've proposed so far...
Cheers!

Stefan, you are the leader and what you say goes so do not worry about toes as for mine they are big anyway and a change of build only changes the desk top nothing else. Do you have a second in command? If not there are plenty of recruits here and sounds like Bruce would be a good choice.

I would be interested in joining. I would like to do a diorama about the Marines at the Choisin Reservoir.
