Firefighters from the Manas International Airport – Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing were recognized for their outstanding efforts in responding to the KC-135 and TU-154 aircraft incident in September 2006. The quick response and team effort of both fire departments quickly extinguished the blaze preventing further damage to the KC-135 and crew.

Col. Joel “Scott” Reese, 376 AEW commander presented each firefighter with a coin showing his gratitude on behalf of the wing.

Manas Airmen train with Kyrgyz firefighters:

Manas International Airport firefighter Stas Suleymanov demonstrates to US Airmen the use of the Kyrgyz firetruck water canon using water pumped from a 376th Air Expeditionary Wing fire truck Feb. 25 at the airport in Kyrgyzstan. The 376th AEW fire department routinely trains with their MIA and other Kyrgyz counterparts.

Plan drawings for short bodied AA-60 MAZ-7310 Airport Crash Truck (I believe it is referred to as an AA-40 but I cannot confirm this.)

The short version lacked the large rear locker behind the water tank that contained a gas driven pump and nozzle arrangement for spreading large areas of foam over runways.)

Here is a newfound image to head this discussion in perhaps a slightly different direction: The MAZ-543 as an airport tug! Interesting.

This vehicle uses the the shortened heavy chassis with the closely spaced rear axles with the massive rear leaf spring suspension.

Sorry had to make some minor corrections to the rear panel doors of the vehicle.

Up to how we have been talking about the most common MAZ fire truck (the AA-60) with the extended rear locker containing a gas driven pump and gear for spreading a blanket of foam across a large area.

Now just above we considered the short bodied vehicle (the AA-40) that does not have the extended pump cabinet on the rear.

Now I am posting some of the few photos I have been able to find of the larger AA-70 model with the pump cabinet, a transverse mounted extra foam tank and a water and/or foam double turret head.

Also note the open mesh catwalk with railings behind the turret head for the turret operator.

This last photo was posted earlier in this thread before I realized this was the larger vehicle. (However chassis length remains the same as on the medium AA-60.)

Appearently you are not locked into painting your fire truck red if you don't want to. Russian OD can still be an option based on this photo. (Myself I'm looking forward to something other than an OD vehicle on my display shelf!)

Another nice photo of the S-300 mounted on the MAZ-543 chassis: Possibly the most agressive anti-aircraft missile system ever created.

Hopefully the news from Trumpeter and Meng about the much improved new offerings of the Scud TEL in 1/35th coming out soon will bring renewed interest in the hundreds of variants that ride on this same chassis.

Don't know about Trumpeter's self proclaimed "New Smash Hit" but so far it does look good!

Early sprue shots from Trumpeter of the new tooling of the MAZ 543 Scud TEL:

Transfer case and rear face of transmission.

Chassis side frames and engine air intakes.

Trumpeter's Facebook page is teasing us. Apparently they plan to bring out another vehicle based on the chassis of their well done new Scud Missile Carrier:

Want to test drive a 537 or 543 (at least on your computer?)

Check out a fairly recent new video game entitled "Spin Tires".

CORRECTION:

This drawing is to correct an dimensional error posted way back at the bottom of page 2 of this thread.

We incorrectly listed the wheelbase dimensions of the MA3-7410 semi tractor as being the same as the standard MA3-543 chassis when in reality the tractor is considerably shorter!

I think Trumpeter is really making hay while the sun shines, taking every opportunity to capitalize on the highly detailed Scud chassis they have produced. I hope they will produce even more variants. All these new model vehicles have been covered elsewhere on the Armorama website.

(I think they have been reading this blog all along! - Just kidding!)
