Some progress on the Tamiya 1/32 P-51D:

Going together just like you'd expect a Tamiya kit to; excellently!

Long work week but I managed to accomplish a few things.
I scratch built the fenders as I didn't like the kit items.

I also replicated the fender mounts with angle stock and hex rod.

Some more progress on the Tamiya 1/32 P-51D. The wings are not glued together or to the fuselage:

Notice only two guns per wing. This is on purpose, the first two Israeli Mustangs only had four guns due to shortages.

I have decided what kit to build for this campaign. I will do the Dragon 1/35 Israeli Super Sherman. I wanted to build that kit for a long time. It will be interesting to do some dusty desert weathering.
More to follow...

I THINK they may have had them in '67 but lost them in the conversion to Shot Kal standard. I don't see pictures of any from '73 with the smoke grenade launchers but I did find at least one pic of a vehicle (in the Manasherob book) with the brackets still attached, though the caption says the IDF had eliminated the capacity "long before" the '73 war.
Hope this helps some!

Here's where I'm at as of tonight.
I like the way the scratch built fenders came out. Typical of DML the instructions leave a lot to be desired. They did though, have a diagram of the sides of the tank and what goes where along with metric measurements. Naturally I found those itty bitty diagrams after I completed the left side.

The smoke mortars are mounted now, and she's almost ready for primer.

I was just looking at the IDF 109 but unsure if its a version of our Paladin?
I'm really interested in building the big guns!

Here we are in primer. Yes the barrel is white. I will tape off a stripe before painting the desert tan.

Wayne: Great work! Man, I love the M-51, just the look of the Sherman on steroids!
Here's some more work on my Tamiya 1/32 P-51:

The rudder is just sort of stuck on, not actually fully in place yet. I painted the wings Floquil Old Silver and the rest Floquil Bright Silver. I still have some panels around the cowling that I will to do in steel and of course the black anti-glare panel.
My plan at this point is the first IAF Mustang in it's original D-190 markings.
Great kit to build so far! Thinking ahead a little and painting the inside of the radiator intake and exhaust before assembly was a big help, it's been much easier to do the rest now.

Michel, your P51 is looking the part it will look fantastic when it is finished I am not brave enough to try a metal finish like that.

Scott,
Thanks! Actually, that's why I switched to Floquil. You still need a smooth surface, but the silvers go down just as easily as Floquil of old. Just be sure you're in a well ventilated area!

Thank you gentlemen!
I'm digging all the aircraft builds here in this campaign. I might even be persuaded to build a plane at some point. You boys are inspiring!
She's been painted tan, and I used a mix of MM Enamel I had lying about. I thinned it with laquer thinner to get a quicker flash dry. I had to let her sit as we've been crazy busy at work.
We are expecting record numbers of tourists for New Years and EVERYONE is working in uniform. Except us, we don't wear uniforms Bwahahahahahah!
