Quick update, there is a substantial update due tomorrow as I have been making significant progress with the build.

Hello,

I am having a really bad night, I slashed my hand open while disassembling my SMLE Mk3 and as a result typing and photographing was done with one hand.

I am currently repainting my SdKfz 222 and an update will follow shortly.

Anyway I have been making lots of progress with the Tiger and I may just finish the hull by Christmas. I am so eager to start another project but I have to stay focused on the Tiger otherwise I will not finish it.

I am thinking about another Panzer 1 build, then again I have lots of other kits with full interiors waiting to be built.

I have been thinking about future hull upgrades so I removed the Dragon front track guards. The Dragon ones are fine but I want movable ones.



The interior has had alot of attention, as you can see I have added the right hand side ammunition bays, remade the hull ammunition storage for the third time and this time the ammo actually fits. I have reinstalled the turret drive motor and added the drive shaft to the engine. Not pictured is the other storage bin, I forgot to add it.





I have been working on the radio operators storage which consists mostly of ammunition cases for his MG34 and added the anti splash guard armour which also doubled as racks for MG ammunition bags. There is a first aid box and another storage box.

The red in the pictures is not blood from my badly shattered hand but ink from a marker that I use to aid placement of items in the hull. It will be isolated under the primer layer.







The front section of the tank is assembled and awaiting further detailing. I added a glass block for the drivers vision port, it looks ok



There is alot of work left to do, but none of this progress would have been possible without the research of David Byrden and his excellent website Tiger1.info. His work on the hull machine gun ammunition storage saved me hours of research.

Mind blowing detail and very well made as well. What is the item to the direct right of the drivers' visor,if I may ask?

Thanks for the quick response. Maybe the round thing is an electric fan to drive the air vent?

No, I have found a image of the component in a tiger tank, the part is inaccurate (its Verlinden what do you expect) its a hollow metal tube welded via a round metal plate to the hull. Has to be for electrical wiring. I will post a picture when I get home.

I will have to build it lol

Steve, thanks for all your help with my Tiger I repairs. This build is friggin incredible and very inspirational!

Not that you need any suggestions from a noob like me, but is there any room to install fibre-optic interior lighting?

I have not thought about installing lighting, I will look into it. The biggest problem will be where to install the batteries.

I have two images below, the first is of the front of the hull of a rather battered Tiger 1 that shows the cabling structure, the second is how airflow operates in a Tiger



I believe this Tiger is in Russia? it was clearly used as a hard target

I know

I was talking about that metal tube thing that I assumed was for the Radio cabling - thus cabling structure.



Gramatically not great maybe, I am the product of the UK university system where I spent 6 long years

Nothing! The glacis plate had that tab in the middle, with a hole. You would pass the tab though the superstructure front plate, hammer the dowel into it, then weld everything. What you see is what you get!

Hello Everyone,

A very quick update tonight on my progress over the weekend. This Tiger really eats up free time.

I have been working on the front of the hull and the air vent. I was not happy with the Verliden part as it was inaccurate so I set out to make a new one. I did start out with plastic but it was far to thick so I started building out of brass.





And it actually looks a little better and has vent holes to provide my resin gearbox with fresh air.

Well I have to be honest I have only made half of the ventilator,

As you can see from the following image from David's site http://tiger1.info/EN/Front-ventilator.html and which I have reproduced here for discussion purposes only !

You can see that there is an upper part to the vent that connects to the Front Ventilator the problem is that I have no space to install it as the radio rack sits right under the hull roof. I suspect that the Verlinden gearbox is just oversized enough not to allow its installation as you can see here:



I might have to live without it sadly

Incredible building

I'm intigued how you're going to paint that though. I have virtually no experience of building interiors, but I would have painted the major parts before assembly. Am I alone in this?

Not trying to take anything away from what you've done, it's great, but to me trying to paint that looks like a nightmare?

What's your plan?

Andy painting the interior is not really an issue, I can take some of the components out and the others will remain in place. I have quite a lot of experience in painting interiors and they are usually Panzer 1's and II's so working on the Tiger will offer lots more space.

I will start off with a primer layer and then look for flaws in the build as CA dries transparent and it is often difficult to tell if you have done a good job. Then I will spray the hull in red primer and the upper hull in off white

This tank is a prototype so it was essential that I glue components as I go along. Other interior Tigers on the internet have compoments that you can remove because they are much less complex than mine

Brilliant solution. This is also a big problem with engines made for scale aircraft kits. Because of the thickness of the plastic cowl walls,the engines are smaller than the real thing out of nessecity. The brass vent is awesome.
