The guidelines look ok to me Sascha. Timeline is good as well as it gives time for further research and material build-up for what I have in mind. Cheers, Tat

Well now I'll have to thinking now. First to see what's out there OOB and run from there with the AM stuff. Maybe even some scratch.

This should be fun.

Sascha,
Sounds good to me. Wish it was starting sooner, but I understand that everyone has a backlog.

In case some of you are looking for inspiration, I highly recommend the Ampersand Publishing Chuchill Pt. I and Pt. II books. They have some great images with a lot of detail. The only reservation I have is that the Part II book give a fair amount of coverage to the post war variants. I'm more inclined towards the operational vehicles, but pt. I totally delivers in that regard.

Best,
John

Re Beute Churchills (why is it some modellers will only do it if they can stick a cross on it lol)

the Germans captured over 30 at Dieppe. These were a mix of MkIs, MkIIs, MkIIIs and Okes (3)

All but four were technically runners. (three were swamped in the sea, one caught fire). Only one was penetrated although several were shaken up inside from dive bombing and mortaring.

6 were retained removed for testing as far as I am aware, 2 MkIs, 2MkIIs and 2 MkIIIs. one of each was used form mobility and other active testing, the others were shot at (possibly more than one of each) for gunnery testing against their armour

I have an original copy of the report. Despite German propaganda about them thinking they were 'hopelessly outdated and obsolete' they withstood and all but the 88 and 7.5cm pak from 2000 yards down to 500 yards. under 500 they were more vulnerable, including to the 5cm guns. the 37mm, unsurprisingly, didn't even scratch them

The guns used at Dieppe were 50cm PaK and obsolete french 75mms. None of these, or the mortars or Divebombers managed to penetrate the tanks on the beach. Surprisingly only 2 Calgary Tank men were killed in their tanks

After Dieppe a few MkIII turrets were removed and fitted to bunkers in the Bologne area

Thereafter Churchills were not really captured. a few on the eastern front, but probably only on an opportunistic basis. being very different in parts to other allied tanks getting parts for a beute would have been difficult to keep it running; not like a sherman

Some nice information Chris. Can't imagine there were many places the 5cm guns could penetrate though.

Why restrict the campaign to WW2, both Crocodiles and Bridge Layers were used in the Korean War.

At the time, it was something of a shock to the Germans as previously most british tanks were succeptable to it at some range

Well, well... as posted in the News Section, AFV Club seems to be busy coming out with Churchill kits. Looking down thru the PMMS page what's also interesting is a Mk III for Dieppe, as a future release:

http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/afvclub.html

By the looks of it, one gets to have the required early Mk III components in one package. Hmmm...though I think it has been marked as future release since 2009 (?) -- hopefully it gets out by the time the campaign gets into swing.

Cheers,

Tat

Yep... they're getting some of my money very soon! The Churchill III (Dieppe Version), that M41 and of course the MBT70.

I think there will be a lot of Dieppe Churchill's in this Campaign.

Any word yet?

I was hoping things would be in better hands and have more time appropriate to the Campaigns but I guess I was wrong.

Last I read was that our Campaigns Admin, Pete Becera had problems with his computer:

Hope he's got it fixed by now.

Cheers,
