Some more assembly and filler. Airfix really dropped the ball on the wing fences. They completely neglected to include the smaller fence outboard of the larger one. A little work with the razor saw, plastic card and sanding sticks solves that problem. Still much more work to do before the primer can go on.

Here is a little update, the base coat is on the tracker, used Vallejo Air Medium Sea Grey and Dark Sea Blue Grey. Unable to find the actual colors, they seemed the closest to me. Though looking at it now, the top colour could use to be a little darker.

Houston, we've got a problem:
The bloody NeOmega cockpit supposedly designed to fit this kit is too fracking big! The instrument panels have spread the fuselage sides and the glare shield is too tall to allow the windscreen to fit!
I could sand down the glare shield to allow the canopy to fit, and that would completely destroy all the detail which is the advantage of buying the resin cockpit bits in the first place.
Time to sit back and think about this for a little while.

Jessie, nice progress so far as to your current problem. I remember an issue of Finescale where someone building a F-100 had a similar problem and to solve the problem they built up the canopy frames using sheet styrene...I'll go through and try to find the issue.
Kevin, she looks good in RCN colours and bloody big. I remember going to Borden and seeing one on display there and it's pretty impressive.
Keep up the good work everyone, lets see some more builds start and finish.

I'm worried that if I did that it would distort the whole nose shape. I may try smash-moulding a new windscreen and see how that works.

Those Vallejo RCN colours look pretty darn close to me.

Jessie,
What about sanding the sides and bottom of the cockpit? Would that work?
Cheers Rob.

Jessica,
instead of sanding and maybe ruining the top of the resin parts, why don't you try to have the resin cockpit sitting lower in the fuselage?

That would mean that I'd have to completely disassemble the model and pry the resin out of its superglue without ruining it. There's a large chance that I'd destroy the model completely
However it may still come to that...
First I'll try getting some debonder and take those instrument panels out to trim their bottom edges. Better if I lose detail at the bottoms where it'll be less visible.

I feel your pain! Your solution looks sensible. Hopefully it will work without to much damage.
Fingers crossed for you

I'd like to put some crew stuff in the turret baskets of my LAV III. What kind of bergen do the Canadian forces use? Is it something close to the old ALICE rucksack? Could I use the Tamiya US Army gear set to depict Canadian items?
My LAV will depict an early Afghanistan deployed vehicle.
TIA

They use a Tactical Vest these days. It's very low profile. I don't know whether it would be worn by AFV crews though.

Olivier, check out
Combat Camera
Lots of 'in service' pics.
Also, Black Dog and Real Models make Canadian crew stowage sets geared for LAV-III.

Thanks for the input Graeme.
Those Combat Camera pictures are great. As I want to keep this project on a low budget, I'll to make my own crew gear with some putty and the left-overs of previous kits.

You could always put random "stuff" in the bins, and then cover them with a rolled epoxy tarp.

This is the easy way I might finally go.

So, a start on the Coyote build. Mostly hull preparation so far.
As I was using the Trumpeter ASLAV kit as the base, the forward side hatch needs to be filled; as does the rear top ventilator hole and fuel filler area between the rear hatches (Coyote has external tanks):
Corrected the rear suspension brake(?) line guards and added the missing bump stops:
The door on the left needs to have a viewport added. Doors aren't glued in yet - good thing as I had just noticed this detail:
Overall views of hull - most ASLAV fittings chiseled off and sanded smooth in preparation for the Coyote details:
The rear fuel tanks are cast from a master a friend had started and I detailed up a bit. The Real Model ones are OK, but slightly small and need the filler caps moved inboard.

I'm just now starting my project for this campaign. Plan to build a Ferret MK. 1/1 station in Germany during the 50's or possibly one from the UNEF mission.

I think that the Hawk may be hopeless
So to carry on in the campaign, I'll do something different. Coming to us all the way from 1978, Monogram's still very nice Starfighter
I'll use the almost as ancient Model Technologies etch and some home-brewed RWR fairings
Here's the decal sheet for all of NATO.
The markings which concern us are in the lower left: 439 Squadron's 104838 in tiger meet stripes

Looks good everyone, I'm glad the builds are starting to pick up and this campaign is moving alone.
@Jesse that's too bad about the BAE Hawk, it's something I didn't even know Canada had in inventory. But I look forward to the tiger meet CF-104. I have one sitting in the shelf with a CMK interior and want to do a the Red Indian.
@Jim How are you finding the Real model conversion, I've been contemplating buying the unamroured Coyote conversion and doing an early Afghan coyote and wanted to know how it builds up, so i'll be watching your build closely.
@Steph, nice choice. I've always liked the look of the Chevy C15.
@Christopher can't wait to see you work your magic on the Ferret, your Cougar build helped my a lot during mine.
If anyone needs I'm living in Ottawa and have unlimited access to the Canadian War museum and its plethora of Canadian Vehicles and I'm planning on heading there this weekend so I should get a good amount of pictures of the vehicles they have there.
