Ok, guys how does this sound for a campaign idea. Last year I ran the Military Railroad Campaign. Lots of people enlisted but only a few finished. So this year I was thinking about making it a little broader and calling it the Steel Wheels Campaign. Therefore anything that had steel wheel, no rubber linings. Trains, steel wheeled Tigers or T-34’s, anything with steel wheels on tracks, rails or otherwise. So here is my proposal:

Any time period
Any scale
Any type of what if armored rail car
Any entry that was started but not completed during the Military Railroad Campaign
And most importantly must have fun

I was thinking a 12 month campaign starting on Black Friday again, November 29, 2013 and running to November 30, 2014.

Sal,
I owe this campaign a build from last time.
I like the "what if armored rail car" motif. It's got the wheels in my head turning.
Count me in (again )

Count me in as well. I'm not sure what I'll shoot for. Probably something on the "what-if-ish" side. But there's no telling what I'll settle on by then. I have a length of rail and a few rail car wheels in the spares.

Would the Porsche Tiger/Ferdinand road wheels count as steel wheels? I'm thinking maybe using that chassis for the basis of some sort of what-if style weapon...or something.

Hi Sal,
I´ve got an ancient Panther PzBefWg from Shanghai Dragon
I could use for this. It has got the so called steel road wheels.
Or do these not count?
Technically the rubber tire was reduced and it was placed
on the inside of 2 steel discs (sandwich style). So your answer to Alex question should possibly be rethought.
It´s your show my friend, so your decision.....

Paul, I wasn't looking to get to technical here, I don't think anyone will be building a rubber tire in between the steel wheel
If the kit states "steel Wheels like this

Then it will be allowed as well, just looking to open thinks up and expand on the Military Railroad Campaign concept a bit, maybe generate more interest

Almost looks like a Tiger Tank Build to me. I may want to join up just because I missed the two ongoing Tiger Campaigns.

Cool Sal, apparently there is one complete turret in that kit, which gives a perfect opportunity to show all hatches
open.
Maybe my Panther might find its way onto some "tracks"
if you know what I mean

Sal, thanks. I figured it would be okay but it never hurts to ask. I was actually more curious about the "what-if" option being used to make something out of the Tiger (P) Chassis. If not, no biggie. I was thinkign maybe some sort of "wunder-particle" weapon mounted on it or something.

I've got an old Dragon "armored-boxen-panzer-railroad-wagon" thing that might be used as the basis of some sort of armored command rail car or something.

Good luck with that, Sal.
I started that kit during Military Railroad campaign and failed to finish. Kit is still unfinished waiting for motivation... So much little irritating issues on that kit, that frustrated me totally.

Count me in Sal!

I have a couple of Trumpeter rail-based kits, a steel-wheled Panther, but this may finally see the light of day:

I picked this up years ago at a fire sale. Some months back I saw this and the road version priced at US$100 each on eBay. A injection-mold Panhard at 1/35 seems to be rare, as most I've seen are 1/72. So I guess some folks would be willing to pay for so much.

Looking forward to the campaign!

Cheers,

Tat

Tat, I built the original Al-By boxing of the basic version back in the 90s. Did Dragon add anything to their box version? I'd love to see HobbyBoss make their version of the Panhard. Anyway, I know Al-By had a rail version of the armored car but I've never seen it built.

Yes Jeff, unique it is! Too bad there's not much Panhards available at 1/35. And the prices at eBay are just incredible.

Alex, I built the Alby-DML road version sometime back. From the original Alby boxing I think what was added was the sprue for the frame antenna and some rear bins IIRC - I know I still have the box with the sprues in it, I'll have to check.

As always I have plans to redo and improve on old built kits... as if the stash of unbuilt ones are non-existent I broke one of the frame antenna supports, so I may just take it off and also do a camo paint job next time around.

Cheers,

Tat

can one build be used for two campaigns?

There's a campaign for "big guns" that mentions more time for a rail gun.

So, could a Leopold build be used for both?
