Any ideas what I can add before I put the top on this thing?

Maybe some papers? (mmaps, charts, etc). I'm not too sure what you would find in an /11. Ammo for the MG? I'm sure there's somebody much more qualified to answer that question but that's my 2 cents hahaha

Signal magazines. Some food supplies. A spare helmet or two. Just a few things that come to mind.

Thanks guys. I have some things in mind to add to the interior but it is always nice to have comments because you get a different perspective from other sets of eyes.

Forgot to mention one. Cigarettes. Quite common amongst all soldiers.

1-did the D model wooden seats get painted?[/url]

I guess so..

2-what color were the fire extinguishers?

I guess it's a matter of time frame. Here are a few examples :

Here's a related thread on another forum.

HTH

H.P.

Jerry,

I think in the photo of the extinguishers posted by Henri-Pierre, the one with the handles on them are for external stowage, the other red ones were for internal stowage, like on 251 etc.

They even have the Tetra labels...I think Archer Fine Transfers has a set of these labels?

It was mounted on the right rear of the vehicle....as in photo below. (of course you may already know this)

Photo courtesy of Squadron/Signal's 251D Walkaround
(for discussion only)

Personally I would paint the seats in a natural wood color, looks more authentic...I was going to post a photo but my scanner is acting weird...heheh

Of course the crew could of mounted any available extinguisher if they lost the original, but mounting a red one on the outside of a tank would've been a target magnet.

Hope this helps, Paul

Thanks for the intel Paul,
Yes,I already have the book with those pix but thanks anyway. I am always leery of using intel from museum vehicles as I have been burned many times in the past with museum aircraft with bogus "restorations". I then base my resin parts on bad intel and then...yadda yadda yadda.
My kit gives 2 fire extinguishers, one for each rear wall so I suppose that is not correct?
I also wonder what kind of spare window was that weird piece of tin with the holes in it supposed to hold?
I also need a good pic of how the radio was wired to the antennae. Man ,there are more questions now than when I started. Maybe I should just ignore all of these details and just crack on?
J

Jerry,if you mean the "piece of tin with holes in it" that is hung on the vehicle sidewall armour,it is an add on armour seat back.I suppose the holes were for ventilation! What did you use as material for the spare vision blocks? They look great!I never tire of seeing the different variations of the 251,the Wehrmacht made good use of the platform!Cheers,Murray McLennan(PS,When is Greymatter going to have your 105 limber ready!)

You could start by adding personal gear; gasmaskcontainers, canteens, that sort of things. And then, as a colourfull eyecatcher one or two personal items. A newspaper or magazine would be an idea or a basket with food.

Matt,
Excellent idea! I think I just saw a guy on Missinglinx offering paper prints of ciggi packs and cartons.
Murry,
Alright! First time I heard what that thing was for. Always wondered. I also found out what the spare window deals were on the side walls just next to the driver and radioman. They were non armnored windows for the front facing viewports. Interesting. I made mine missing as a lot of period pics show all kinds of items missing from veteran machines. I have to get my FW190D-13 for Greymatter finished before I get to the limber, sorry!
Rob,good suggestions all. I had planned on adding the personal gear but I will keep in mind the state of equipment for LSSAH at this time was not very good. The bulk of the div was made up of replacements and they were by no means fully equipped, some of the former Luftwaffe people still had the same uniforms(and I don't mean the Paras that were along on this ride to Le Glieze.
I always chuckle when I STILL keep reading about how the WSS was always more well equipped than their Army counterparts and received preference in resupply.

Been a while since I updated this. I got some of the interior clutter done and added. It takes a long time to paint up these teeny tiny fiddly bits and as I get older it takes longer and longer. The PE stuff on the web gear is very hard for me to get done as well. I am about to put the top on this baby.

I added this last one of the bread bag cause it was so freekin hard to get the PE correct and I must say,for once, that I am proud of myself.

That turned out very well!!
Just the right mix of colour, items, details and randomness, without going overboard.
Topjob!

Spot on! I can understand leaving out the cigarettes. They require the eyes of a hawk and deftness of a surgeon. I created mine out of styrene strip, cut to size. I'll see if I can dig up a photo.

Can't wait to see your next update Ron!
Thanks for the kind words. I always keep in mind my own mech infantry days and remember that you had to work and fight in these vehicles so a good NCO would not allow clutter. So I try to only use things that would make sense laying around.

I could make ciggie packs maybe but the butts I think would be thrown over the side?

I imagine so. I made 1:35 cigarettes from piano wire. I painted the tip Tamiya gloss orange. I think it turned out pretty well.

I agree with all the other visitors to your build. Top job, the chipping, weathering and the personal equipment is giving your subject life.
On the subject of the cigarettes, have you considered a tin or two of field rations?

Jerry, you couldn't have timed this update more perfectly. I'm just starting to paint the interior to my 251 and this will help a LOT. I couldn't come near this sort of detail and what not, but it's great to have something like this to refer to.

Absolutely awesome

I'll see if it fits with the scenerio. This scene has some action going on and I don't think the guys would be smoking right now. Maybe some packs in the drivers' area might work,if I can find out how they looked? Any sources?

Thanks for the kind words. I would consider rations but the only ones from Germany that I know of are the small cans of "AM" stamped on the top. The Landsers called it "Alte Mann" and swore it was made from ground up old men.

Matt,
This is the Dragon 251/1 kit and the Greymatter conversion set. There are a lot of bits from the Dragon Gen2 equipment sprues as they are awesome. I remember the big blobs that used to come with the first Tamiya kits for water bottles, etc but we were happy to get them.

Ha ha! Ground up old men!
