Started on my first vehicle build in over 15 years. Be kind.
A few general knowledge queries though.
1-did the D model wooden seats get painted?
2-what color were the fire extinguishers?

I hope so Ron, if it doesn't look the part there is no one to blame but myself. I was the guy that built the master patterns for the set.

Christ, Jerry that's already better than the vehicle kits I've done recently. Looking forward to the outcome.
Will this be included in the new diorama you're making?

I hear ya brother. I used to build tanks all of the time. Before I knew it 15 years went by!! Nice to be back and see all of the new stuff available for the tank-ites,

Jerry,
I think in the photo of the extinguishers posted by Henri-Pierre, the one with the handles on them are for external stowage, the other red ones were for internal stowage, like on 251 etc.
They even have the Tetra labels...I think Archer Fine Transfers has a set of these labels?
It was mounted on the right rear of the vehicle....as in photo below. (of course you may already know this)
Photo courtesy of Squadron/Signal's 251D Walkaround
(for discussion only)
Personally I would paint the seats in a natural wood color, looks more authentic...I was going to post a photo but my scanner is acting weird...heheh
Of course the crew could of mounted any available extinguisher if they lost the original, but mounting a red one on the outside of a tank would've been a target magnet.
Hope this helps, Paul

Thanks for the intel Paul,
Yes,I already have the book with those pix but thanks anyway. I am always leery of using intel from museum vehicles as I have been burned many times in the past with museum aircraft with bogus "restorations". I then base my resin parts on bad intel and then...yadda yadda yadda.
My kit gives 2 fire extinguishers, one for each rear wall so I suppose that is not correct?
I also wonder what kind of spare window was that weird piece of tin with the holes in it supposed to hold?
I also need a good pic of how the radio was wired to the antennae. Man ,there are more questions now than when I started. Maybe I should just ignore all of these details and just crack on?

Thanks Frenchy, those linkies are superb. I was wondering if the 251 in Roberts' walkaround was post war built before it was restored? As with all of these restored vehicles I am never sure if they are accurate, although this one looks awefully good! Thanks again brother,

The one piece rearward opening engine hatch, and the one on the nose without the radiator cap, indicate that this is a late production vehicle. Then again, those parts may have salvaged from another vehicle and used to restore this particular one; so, this might not be a single vehicle resto.

Thanks Joe,
I did notice the last production hood configuration. It still has the old style window flaps though and not the simplified versions. I also noticed a lot of corrosion on the main armor plates and wonder how long this thing sat around before it was restored. Looks like a great job though.
Back to the mundane
I did not get a radio antennae mount in this kit so I built one. I still have to add the weld seems on it though.
I added the stored hoops for the canvas tilt and the junction box for the antenne, storage mount for the flat window, etc
Added the transfer box for the radio power unit and it's wires as well as the MG mount and spare glass block holder. Also put the clamps on the storage units in back of the seat backrests. I noticed after I got the pics from Roberts' walkaround that I made a mistake with the storage boxes. When the two are used the share a center wall and I had already glued mine on so I have to live with it without making that modification for accuracy. Live and learn.
Also started to modify a dude to drive this thing. Lots of drivers wore the hat backwards. Forunners of hip hop?

Personally, I love putting the hats on backwards Makes the guys look pretty bad a$$.
And I can hardly follow all this talk over the small details and specifics on this It's amazing though, and it sure does look good.

You're doing a bang up job with this one, Jerry. I'm liking all the incidental details you've added. Are the floor panels PE? I was glomming over the photos and it sure as shoot doesn't look like styrene.
Re the storage boxes and the shared wall, did you use CA? Never mind, they're resin, right? I was going to suggest a judicious application of debonder.
I've got a bunch of 251's in various stages of indifference. After soldering Aber upper hull components together, my enthusiasm went down the crapper after noting how much more needs to be done. Oh well.......

Thanks man,for lookin in. Yes,the floor is PE but I no longer remember who made it,, Aber maybe. I have a rule that I will no longer put hours of work into something that will noe be seen in the finished product. Since the seats will be behind the wall in the dio and not readily seen,I don't think it is worth tearing them out again. Same thing for the radio. I have a really sweet K59 type F radio with mount and boxes but in the 251 you need a pair of binos to see it so why waste the beauty of the thing back in the cave of the drivers' area?
I did consider the PE side wall but once again,I don't think the extra work would matter much in this dio. I do however, have a -3 radio track that maybe could use that?
