I am excited as I just got my new PE commo wire spool parts from Fotocut. I should have taken some pics before I posted but I got carried away.

Here is the PE set on the left. There are the spool ends, small and large crank gears with 2 chain pieces per set and a re enforcing ring for the rim of the spool ends. On the right you can see some parts I removed from the vinyl backing.
These are much better than my resin ones.

Tiny stuff! You must have good eyes and steady hands, sir. Half my PE goodies end up bent beyond repair or busted up one way or another.
Looking forward to more!

thanks guys. i can't take the credit for it all. i did the artwork but m buddy Fred at Fotocut photoetch company. He does a good job and the best thing about his stuff is it's not on a fret that you have to cut and sand and then probably bend! The parts are on vinyle backing and a little acetone will remove them from the backing with no bending.
Do you think that these spools should be marketed by Greymatterfigures? The Germans used phone commo in almost every aspect of operations?

Yes please and if possible complete with mounting brackets and carrier racks. If you have a set of those you can convert any kubelwagen great or small to a communications vehicle. Maybe go even further and add wire hooks on poles, fieldphones open and closed, equipment boxes. etc. etc. But that is just an idea. I would definately be game for something like that.

I agree with Robert!
Market that stuff! And even increase it. There are so many options you could choose from. Maybe even create a complete vehicleset with additional spools, the mounts, pole, tools etc...
I do happen to have a set of pictures on the mount that was carried on the back. Was on sale on ebay lately....

I already made the masters for some of that stuff. In the Greymatter conversion for the 251/11 you get the pole with hook and a lot of extra phones with closed top and also extra spool carriers for personnel. It would not take much more work to make a full set as you suggest. I have alot of pics of this gear from the web as well as from re enactors. I am surprised that this has been neglected so far as the Germans used boatloads of telephone gear in the war.
By the racks do you mean the ones that people wore when spooling the wire in and out? Or the racks that mounted the carriers to the vehicle fenders? I have seen them mounted on a lot of different vehicles, wheeled and tracked. Thanks for looking in Robert.

Thanks buddy! I do have some very good pics of that gear already but thanks. I think my answer to Robert above says it all.
Thanks for sticking with my build and for taking the time to comment. Not many people do. By saying tools, what kind of tools do you mean? Linemans' plyers and things like that? I have not found any pics of special tools other than the pole with the hook on it.

I know and to tell you the truth I was already planning to buy that set for that stuff as I have been wanting to built a Mercedes 170V as a communications vehicle. With the spools on the fenders, poles everywhere. Those vehicles really look chaotic. Then I wanted to contact you if it was possible to extend the 251 set for conversion purposes on other vehicles. But I see the idea already landed.
If you really want to make it for any vehicle it must have the fender mounted spools. but I don't see why it would not carry some additional racks that were worn on the backs of soldiers.
I agree with Ron. Some additional tools like wirecutters. screwdrivers, hammer, pliers maybe a small toolbox. Also poleclimbing gear, Telephones, Batteries. I have even seen photographs of one of those communications kubels with a ladder on the side.
By the way. If you need any reference material on the fieldphones I have an original in my collection. That is complete and still has an original battery from 1944 inside.

You have some excellent tips there Robert. I would of course welcome any pics or info that you can provide as one can never have too much research!
I am OK with the phones though as I know of a very good German commo gear website that has a nice collection. I could use anything you have on the other gear like the pole climbers, tools, batteries, etc. I already have a carrier frame for the spools but need to make the leather part in the open and closed positions, closed for vehicle mounted use and stowed position and open for when it was carried on the back. I also need to ammend my PE artwork as some things need improvement and yes, angle iron frames for vehicle mounts and also maybe a spool with canvas cover? It also would be better if we wrote on private e mail about this(Roy as well) as there are a lot of pirates on the web.

I love half-tracks and Tiger tanks. And Lancaster bombers. I model to please myself not others. I may not be the best of modellers, but I'm happy with what I end up with.

That is sterling news. I have found a few nice details and still have half of my refs to go.

It would be nice to see the set common, for all vehicles and guns that used it. The one that I thought of immediately, are the 88 flak guns/artillery pieces. There are certainly more. I think this could be a whole line of good business for Greymatterfigures.
