It is a good little kit, but again it has some minor issues that are irritating!

Yeah, I know the feeling.
Not to sound like a know-it-all but I have yet to run into the "perfect kit".

They ALL have issues.
Keep up the good work and I should be returning to my build soon.

And it doesn't matter how expensive they are either.. Even the most expensive kits have faults somewhere.. even, and don't tell anyone I said this.. Tamiya...

On with some sub assemblies, the harpoon launchers were made up, I used the Trumpy blast deflectors, and the WEM supports for the launch tubes.
also done is the mainmast and the 4.5" gun.

The firepower fitted to the front end.

looking at the pics of the real thing, the gun barrel should be black, so a lick of paint needed thre.

Hi Simon.
I noticed in your last photo gaps in the railings that lead straight over board. Is this a test for drunkren sailor's survival skills?

Keep at it mate .. is looking fine!
Cheers

Hi Warren,
well spotted mate!
On the bridge roof (monkey island as we called it in the Merch) strangely that is correct, was on board HMS Westminster at Navy days in Portsmouth a couple of years back. On the platforms below the bridge, again the gaps are correct, but I seem to remember they had a chain across them. I will have another go at pinging short lengths of wire across the workroom before I finish this baby.
The lookout platforms on the funnel casing I haven't put the railings on yet.

I don't think I would worry too much Simon. I would say that when they are at sea and possibly on alert or whatever the chains would be removed to allow the missiles or whatever are sitting near the gaps to fire.
My Westminster came on the post today, but so did my 1/200 Missouri.. guess which one got the most attention..

Which aftermarket mantlet did you use on your ASU? I like the angle of the gun far better on yours than the one I bought and have on mine.

Would you believe that the mantlet is the kit supplied mantlet with a tissue paper and white glue canvas cover? It's called old school when you can't afford the goodies! Adjusted the angle with some sand paper and filing! Have fun!!!

Very nice, that is old school and also my favorite way. I used a resin version but only because I picked it up as part of a package deal with a few other parts for other kits. Bad thing is that it has the gun pointed at near the top of it's elevation. Love your work!

Actually, THAT is called modeling. It's what we had to do back in the day when there were no AM parts and resin was something guys did in their garage.
Nice work!

Some great builds so far!
I'm in with Trumpeters 1/700 HMS Zulu.
![](../../i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn110/ste_3091982/STP805283_zps20821f0b.jpg)
Obligatory sprue shot-
![](../../i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn110/ste_3091982/STP80532_zps03f016b4.jpg)
And some aftermarket goodies I plan on adding - Niko Models twin 4.7inch gun turrets and twin 4inch HA guns, and WEM's small etch set for the Tribal to add missing details, notably the boat davits and RN splinter matting.
![](../../i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn110/ste_3091982/STP80530_zps83214d93.jpg)
This will also be my first ship build to use any aftermarket resin or etch parts. I'm hoping to complete it as a full hull if I can find something useable to mount it on. Got a few projects to clear off the desk first but hoping to make a start in the new year.

I've had some, how shall I say, mixed results with the damn stuff in the past and certainly nothing at this scale before! Luckily this is a small set and no parts require awkward bending or folding.
The resin parts will be a doddle to work with and I'll have some turrets left over for some other projects.

MSCorley,
Great looking ASU. I built the earlier version and I have to say the cupola and MG really look nice. I also like the mantlet cover. I may have to pull mine off the shelf and give a it a tissue cover.

Thanks! The cover gives the piece a splash of color to an otherwise drab piece!
