The stuff on the left are the LARGER bolt-heads HobbyBoss supplies with their Pz II-J kit, which I am just now wrapping up for the Panzers Return! campaign. I'll bet you can guess that these won't get onto the panz! Wonder what equipment will fall off due to this "corner-cutting during vehicle assembly"?! (To be sure, I couldn't even find where they might go, per the instruction sheet...). Those eye-burners on the right are tiny widgets for a Marder III... they MIGHT still get on...

You'll notice that I have not been brave enough to actually separate these uber-important little details from their frets!

On a related note: If you need magnifiers to handle them off the fret to the build, will others ever see them with their usual "Mk. I" viewing equipment - specially after paint and maybe grunge?

Sometimes it's too small to work on, maybe on a bigger scale it would make sense to go with those details.. after all the paint and weathering..




They could get lost very easily

Yes, certain things will not show up after all the paint is on, the clamps do show up rather nicely though from other builds I have seen. I agree the PE nuts/bolt heads are a bit much though, and some pieces are SO small they definitely won't show up.

So the wife and kids did not feel like braving the Boxing Day shopping crowds, so I spent a few eye straining hours adhering to my "I paid for it so I'm damn well gonna use it!" credo...

Making all the brackets and clamps for the tow lines and mounting brackets for the fenders.

^^^...aaaand I see some mold seams I missed....

I still have to work on some interior details:





Radiator grill, ammo boxes and windows, before starting working on the wheels / tires and exterior equipment.

I'm guessing another month or so and then I might go for another build.

not very imaginative I'm afraid, another Tiger I. But the truth is I haven't done one of these yet.

Anyway, it's a DAK Tiger I. I'm planning a faded yellow over grey.

Panzer 121. I'm intrigued by the apparent missing front fenders in the second photo. It seems unlikely that they were lost in what I'd imagine was quite a small amount of time between the photos, do you guys think they're just raised and not shown clearly on the photos?

p.s. If anyone has any photos of 121, or more detailed references for a different DAK Tiger I would gratefully receive them. Thanks for your help.

Hi Andy, not only has the 121 lost it's fenders, it's also missing the second outer road wheel. I'll check my references , and if I find something I'll let you know ,

I could have spent hours finding those references. I'm liking the missing wheel and fenders.

What commonly caused damage such as missing outer wheels? Im thinking there must have been some residual damage to neighbouring components and i'd like to simulate that accurately if i can? The photo was supposedly taken after the retreat from the "disasterous battle at Hunt's Gap". I'm thinking that if the battle was so disasterous then the damage couldn't have required more than removal of the outer wheel otherwise the vehicle my well have been lost i.e. they wouldn't have been in a position to recover it, or do anything more than simple repairs as they were in retreat? Also the side skirts are still intact which seems to imply whatever caused it was moving horizontally? Perhaps a light AT gun, AT rifle etc? Or is it more likely a damaged tyre through wear and tear, and they just removed the wheel?

No problem Andy, if can help I will.
The missing road wheel could've been removed by the crew, or it was torn off through debris. It was common practice to remove the first outer road wheel so that the dirt and other things didn't get caught up under the following wheels. But looking at
121 I'd say it went through a tough time in the Hunts Gap battle, otherwise known as Unternehmen (operation) Eilbote.
In my opinion your second pic shows what she looked like after the battle.

Just checked my kit - whilst Tamiya assume I will want to attach all the wheels, lovely Mr Voyager has given me a lovely resin hub to fit instead of the missing wheel... happy days.

I've been looking at the front glacis plate on 121. It appears to have 4 (?) impact marks - what do you think was the cause?

(I will stop with the questions soon - promise)

Ok fellas, i just enelisted.
I'm in with the Dragon 234/2 Puma kit, and the Eduard etch.

Well here's my build, Hobby Boss's F-14B a little different than most of the builds happening. Started last night but forgot to take pics before I started, so here they are now with as far as I got last night cockpit tub trimmed up with a couple of things added and the ejector seats mostly built.

Got a few more hours in this one tonight, doesn't look like much for the time spent. Cockpit is almost completely together and has had a coat of grey put down.

Update on the Puma IFV.

Time to get cracking. I attached the top and bottom hulls.


I put on the turret to give you an idea of what it'll look like.


I went ahead and painted the roadwheels. I also shot a quick coat of green on the suspension and lower hull so I can start wrapping that section up.

That's it for now. Next step is wrapping up assembly and get ready for paint. The kit is turning out to be a straightforward build. It's been simplified in many areas, but it's a neat looking vehicle. Now I have to finish my Leo 2 for the Unfinished Business Campaign to give it a stable-mate.

I did some more work today. And of course, i have to torture myself with photo etch. It's not even going to be seen, but i need the practice.
I wanted to get some more done, but it is just too cold in the cave.

I'm really pissed. enraged, furious.

I finished the interior, added the windows.
Closed the little GAZ, when I was checking it to be tight.. it fell.
one side of the wind screen fell, one of the front axle parts (one wheel tilts like a real car left to right but not the other) and a small piece of the head light.

Tried to fixed the best I could and took the photos.

I was planning to work on some other models after but not with this mood.







Damn, I was really enjoying this MENG kit.

Sorry to see that happen John. The best thing to do is to push it away for a bit, then come back and see what can and cannot be done to fix it.

I'm wrapping up assembly on the Puma IFV. I'll get pictures up once I get it ready to paint. I'm going to hold off on the paint until I finish assembly on my Leo2 for the Unfinished Business Campaign. That way I can paint both at the same time.
