looks like some of the speed builders around here better watch out
Paul

I might compete with building, but not with weathering and painting... haven´t done a single thing on mine...
but anyway, I hope to get the figure started by the end of the week...

Paul, nice looking tracks and finders. I finally assembled my KV1 and brushed the base coat on then applied some future and played with a micro brush applicator to paint the green and brown camo over the base, it did better than I had thought since I did not want to pull out the airbrush out of its hiding spot. I now am painting the details and applying the decals then will do a filter let it dry then the pin wash:

Bob thanks mate, I must say your camo looks rather good
there too . I take it you can still remove the running gear, otherwise that could be a tricky job painting those wheels and tracks in situ

Here's my update, started on the painting. Yesterday primed
today the first coat of homebrew russian green.
Tamiya XF62 and 58 in a 40/60% mix.

More soon, which will mainly be lightning up the base colour.

Paul: I plan on just some wash and sprayed on dirt to hide everything since I did not plan far enough ahead while building. I must say this kit is easy to assemble, just wish that life would cooperate a little more

Sal: are you having fun with your KV, it looks like it is coming along fine.

Tom: I like that base color, what are you using?

Sal yes the pain is gone from the left arm since the op,
now to get the right one sorted . Your KV is coming along
well too, I suspect paint towards the weekend ?

Bob you're a braver man than I , good luck with running gear

Here we go then, todays update fading part 1

It's hard to see the difference :eh: on this first pass , but believe me it has changed

More tomorrow

Well seeing as how I miscalculated the turret roof on the KV-7, looks like I'll have to do it again. Getting the front plate the right size has been hard too. Took a break from it, tried building something else and that didn't work out either......

So I'll build another KV in the mean time. Pretty easy little kits that go together great and in no time at all so I'll build 4 of 'em!

I'm not quite sure but I could add in another or two. And yes I do love me some KV, that's why I have quite a few of them.

So far this is where I'm at.

Comrade MP: That's a lot of KV you are building there! You're right though, these Trumpeter KV kits just fall together in a couple of nights...

Paul: I like the JS1 - the damaged fender (should that be mud guard) looks fab.

I have some progress to report.

All sub assemblies are finished and now primed. I usually put the whole thing together first, tracks an’ all and then apply paint. This time, all the running gear components will be painted separately before being set in place.

I’m going to experiment with the salt and hairspray technique to get a good bit of heavy chipping and then depending on how I’m feeling I may even lay down a very careworn winter whitewash.

Hopefully more photos to follow…

Keep up the good builds, everyone!

Cheers

ComradeMP now that is what I like to see in a campaign 4 builds in one go, great.
The good thing about the Trumpeter kits is they're simple and fast builds. You'll soon be hitting paint dude

Matthew thanks mate , I'll accept fender, mudguard, wing or whatever... .
Just one thing, as this is the KV Campaign and the rules state that only KV versions are allowed , I decided to build a KV122 .
or is my build that bad ?
Great progress Matt, you'll be going primer soon I see , and those friuls look just great.

Todays update, two steps in the fading :

Here's how she looks now

The lower regions

The base colour was lightened both times with Tamiya XF 57 Buff, I also gave the anthracite primed tracks some
dirty rust colour, which is a mix of Humbrol colours. I have no idea what is in there, so please don't ask

Hello everyone.

Had a good few hours of happy modelling over the weekend, and have some more progress to report...

I'm sticking my neck out to try the hairspray and salt chipping technique.

First up, an application of lots of shades of rust.

and on the wheels too...

Next, apply hairspray and a liberal dousing of salt - I may have overdone it actually... Oh and then a bit of pre-shading in the nooks and crannies.

Here, I've laid down the base coat of 4BO - it is Vallejo's model air Russian Green...

And here, there's a bit of not-so-subtle colour modulation...

Finally, it's all dried so I can chip the salt of to leave... a case of the measles!

And on the wheels too...

Hmmm. I might have to tone it down a bit with some washes and filters. Generally quite pleased though...

Next up: the tracks.

Matthew I also am going to have to have a go at this salt thing one day , I certainly like the look it leaves behind

Sal nice progress there . As for the white fender and wheel stripes , well I'd leave it unless you're going for a nice n clean parade vehicle . The same goes for the red star with the wreath and flag.

Here my update for today:
The "White Stripes" are performing ..... Oh damn I mean were painted using Revell Aqua white 05 thinned with water. The paint job is meant to look rough, as I cannot imagine these guys having masking tape and spray guns for this job. The footprints came from a plastic figures left and right leg:

This was then sealed in with Tamiya clear, and dried with a hair dryer.
I have added water with a drop of detergent in it, onto the lower hull. Onto this came dirt from my garden which has been dried and sieved through a tea strainer and finally through some Tamiya engine gauze.
This wet mixture was then sprayed with Tamiya clear to fix it in place.

Here's the polished wheels and tracks

More tomorrow lads, where I live tomorrow is a bank holiday and also fathers day.

I finished the turret on the KV-1E. Did some of the major parts of the other turrets, just going to work out the details as I go. Right now I'm concentrating on the KV-1E which is as good as finished.

And all the KV's will receive alliance works PE grills and Zedval DT gun barrels.
