Hello ,
I started making a tree to put it next to the bunker on the diorama.
Now here , the revealing of my grandmother's recipe how to make a realistic tree (in small scale of course)
* Make a skeleton of iron wires and tied them together.
* Then seal it with tape
* Create a trunk with a sheet of aluminium foil
* Make the branches of sea foam
* Put it in the oven for thirty minutes.......????
The last line is not correct, my mistake !
Nevertheless , you get this result
Next update , painting the tree and making leaves on the branches.

Hi Kurt,
that helmet looks great, the hobnails on the boot's sole look a tad big IMHO, even if you take dirt o.s. deposits into account.
..I failed to find the Luger though
The tree looks good too, although there are several weak points..notably where the wire "melts" into the sea foam.
What are you going to use for leaves?? Always an interesting question isn't it!
Good luck then!
Cheers

Hello Romain ,
nice of you for checking in again !
Thanks for the compliments and you can find the Luger on the right side of the Helmet. It is a remnant of a pistol and the item is from Tamiya. It is rough weatheared for sure and therefore unrecognizable . The boot is from Dragon and so unfortunately, i must take this as it is .
This is a similar tree that I once have made with the same method, only on a larger scale. The leaves will be made from shredded synthetic material . But more on this subject later
Thanks for watching !

Hi Kurt,
thanks for leading me to the Luger (or what's left of it)
I like your tree, but the leaves are a little too "chaotic", i.e. pointing into all kinds of directions together and not being "leave-shaped".
If you look at real trees, you'll see that the leaves obey to certain rules, and that should be respected in miniature.
Also you don't have to accept sea foam as it is (putting mini trees onto some armature). You can cut these "trees" (carefully ) up along both horizontal AND vertical lines!!
Synthetic material shredded...mmmh...why not use scatter material (from Heki o.s.). It looks a lot more like leaves and is ready for use and easily applied (Heki 1620 is my fav).
Sorry to bore you, but trees (and vegetation as a whole) are my specialty (besides figures that is).
Cheers

Well Romain ,i disagree with you !
When the wind blows trough the branches of a tree , each leaf will move separately in a different way in all directions. Nature is chaos my friend .
I thank you for the thought and the tip with the leaves.
Always welcome !

If we talk trees, I might do some in the near(er) future for my HUE dio project (Heki 1620 ordered has arrived). I'll keep you in the loop!

Hello everyone ,
in the meanwhile i tried to make corrugeted steel for strengthening ( as a simulation ) the side walls of the trenches on the diorama.
It is in a sense the same principle as making waffles.
First i have made two molds from Styrofoam and toothpicks.
Then i put a small sheet of aluminium foil on one of the two molds.
The second mold on the first one and after hard pressing on the mold ,i have this
I'm not completely satisfied with the result because the corrugated aluminium is very delicate to work with.
I will keep you informed of further progress.
Greetings Kurt.

Hello everyone ,
the Germans were masters in creating and making of underground shelters or dugouts . Now , i have made some kind of an entrance structure of such a dugout in small scale. It will be placed in a trench later on the diorama.
The structure is made of Balsa wood and the walls on the inside are covered with sticks. Meanwhile , i finished weathering the corrugated sheet aluminium.( just a test )
The pictures :
I thank you for watching and wish you all a very Happy New Year .
Greetings ,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,
corrugated sheet or Wellblech can be tricky to make.
I've got this URL in my favs http://www.modellversium.de/tipps/1-werkzeuge/56-.html
Maybe that can help! Sorry, but it's in german. Fortunately there are lots of pics for several methods!!

You're most welcome!!
Indeed ,i have learned from it .
The printings in the sheet aluminium were not diep enough . So this test shows a much better printing in the sheet and it looks much better. Not perfect but certainly better.

Hi Kurt,
the Schwarzlose looks really impressive!! Full marks for the rust effect!!
I also like the bunker a lot in those pictures!!
The only thing I'm not sure about is the muzzle of the 08! Should it be darker in the middle...or would the rust totally obstrue the lot??
Maybe one of the other gentlemen has a clue!?!?
Well done anyway! Thanks for keeping us posted!

I think a touch of a drill in the end of the barrell is in order. The bunker and rusty weapon are awesome!
