Meanwhile it's certain that the president of the United States of America will be present at the ceremony on 26 March.

Today i read the story in the newspaper about two American soldiers buried in Flanders field cemetery . Their families still have the letters they sent...amazing !

To be honest i'm deeply imprest by their stories.

Thanks Jerry and Romain for looking in

Hi folks ,

as spoken before an new update of the diorama with new ideas.

I also used up the foliage !

So the tank is almost completely surrounded with vegetation . I applied matt varnish on the animals .( concerning the observation of Romain )

Now what about the new ideas ?? Well i have inserted a small picture of a lady between a plate in the trench. it may be the wife or girlfriend from one of the German soldiers ? Maybe a final reminder of better times from the past ??

There will be some letters and envelopes in the field like they were blown away by the wind . The last letters from the soldiers !!!! I call this artistic freedom Yes i'm showing off, i know

The letters , envelopes and photos are from Reality in scale a Dutch company i think.

The pictures at last ;

Oh Kurt...I don't know what to say...!

I have the distinct feeling that tank and photo/papers are not fitting timewise..!

It takes so long for such a tank to rust completely...and photos or papers would not withstand the weather over such a long period!

Also, the wood in the trench is still "healthy" brown..! It wouldn't be after such a long time.

I better get me coat and stop this!

Cheers

Romain ,

Imagine that for some kind of reason the letters of the soldiers have withstoot the test of time. And for some strange reason they appear in the field driven by a mysterious wind.....because that's what this story is all about, just a big mystery ???? I'm surching the right balance between fantasy and reality.

But to be honest in reality you're right m8 ! And have a nice cup of coffee instead of taking your coat.....

Thanks for the thoughts ,Romain !

Cheers

Hi Kurt - I really appreciate your notes above - the process of thinking through and developing a story - your execution of the build is excellent - so why not have some fun with, or at least consider some deviation or mystery in the story; why not ? All part of the fun!

This is turning out to be a lot different than I thought it would.
It all comes down to what YOU want to say here,so there is no right and wrong,is there?
This reminds me of the work of someone else that posts here every so often. His name escapes me now but he does a lot of mystical topics like this.
Pretty cool,

Hi Kurt,

The letters could be explained as having been dropped by a relative visiting the battle field and maybe seeing a cap badge or boot in the ground.

The bodies would be best explained by excavation of the site, thus keeping things on a firmer footing than the maybe.

If you make it too unlikely it will loose impact for the viewer.

Just some thoughts.

Sorry for the late reply Alan , i did not notice your post !

Hmmm.... i understand your point of view but why should a diorama always be logical ??? If you want to think that the letters are dropped by relative visiting that's fine by me..and the tought that the bodies were found by excavation on the site is also fine .

But i do not give any solutions or straight answers why there are letters and bodies in the field . The name of the diorama is the field of silence and if there's a lot of animal activity or people visiting the scene than it's full of live... it is no longer a field of silence IMHO .

Nevertheless i'm open for suggestions or any kind of reactions,or criticism. Thank you very much for your thoughts Alan

Ah, but you have a dog and a cockerel

The dog could have dug up some bones but the rest of the scene should then be void of life, as no self respecting cockerel would be that far from the hens and they tend to be quite vocal

Of course the letters could just be rubbish blown there by the wind but if that was the case there would probably be a few plastic bags around as they seem to get everywhere especially the most unlikely places

You did offer up a reason

That's what got me thinking otherwise I wouldn't have given them much thought.

And there be a man with his bike , the owner of the dog.

Now the cockerel has a concussion because early in the morning the farmer threw his schoe at him. The fact is that he (cockerel) is out of his mind and thinks that the tank is a big chicken or something else........ and the dog just looks interested...... , I can turn this story where i want to

The letters or papers may also belong to the owner of the dog?????Blowing away by the wind..... that may be logical ?

I'm glad that you think about this diorama Alan, that's just my goal.... But you put my english to the test and that's for sure !

Hi Kurt,

Good progress. I'd add a little mud to the helmets to help blend then into the ground a bit more and vary the depth/colour of the rust.

Getting kind of spooky here. I can almost here Rod Serlings' voice in the background.
"Consider and walk in the park.........consider a dog......"
And the melodrama ensues.

Hello guys ,

@ Alan , i agree ! Thanks for looking in.

@ Jerry , you mean the twilight zone an American sience fiction series from early 1960 ?
Yes , this topic is not suitable for poopy pants , hehehehehe !

I also consider to give the wooden supports in the trench a few oil washes of dark grey color.....to keep Romain happy

Cheers ,

I'm back again with a few adjustements ....

First , i've blend the helmets more in to the ground by adding washes and mud.

Second , i add washes of grey oil paint to the wood in the trench. It looks a whole lot grayer now. I removed the picture of the lady because it's a little bit difficult to understand the meaning or intention of it.

The letters or no longer the letters of the soldiers , so i regrouped them closer to the place where the man and his bike will stand. I'll explain it later.....

The pictures ..

Cheers ,

Kurt

Ola Kurt

It has been a joy reading through this post so far. Love the story you are weaving in this thoughtful diorama. Plus it is coming together wonderfully. So much to like. Looking forward how this progresses.
