Thanks guys for the compliments

I see what i can do with the muzzle or the barrell, i'm not a specialist drilling in such small scale but still your both right.

Thanks again for the thoughts.

What i do is start a hole with a sharp pin and make sure it is centered. Then I carefully use the tip of a new sharp # blade and gently twist it in the hole to the desired size.

That's exactly what I would try too!

Remember: easy does it!!!

Sorry, but the more I look at the thing, the more I'm convinced it's inevitable!!

Thank you gentlemen for your interest.

@ David , thank you for your kind words and your visit !

@ Jerry , thanks buddy for the golden tip !

@ Romain , dont let this topic haunt you !

Well , unfortunately things are not the way i wanted to be. There is more or less a hole in the barrel and thats about it . There will be more machine guns placed on the diorama though , so i have more opportunities to practice .

Here it comes.....ahum ...the barrel with a hole in it:

do not laugh to much , i have feelings to you know

I actually think it works very well. Looks like the thin edges have rusted away. Perfect!

Hello everyone ,

back with an update of course .

I have finished the entrance of the dugout.

A first layer of acrylic paint was applied to the outside of the dugout with a mixture of white and a bit black , resulting a light gray color. Than a drybrush with black oil paint and finally pigment was added in wet matt varnish.

The pictures ;

Have i mentioned the application of moss yet ? No ? Well i fixed it with white glue .

Greets,
Kurt

Hello Alan ,

thank you for the kind words and this is gonna be better and better (i hope )
And now to everyone ,
The more i think about this project the more ideas i get...

Like this for example ,

the idea is to lay three fallen soldiers on the ground in front of the German bunker . But i'm not sure if it's a good idea ?? We'll see !

Another Schwarzlose machine gun will be placed in the trench...

Thats all folks (for now )

Hi Kurt,

getting new ideas is just what it should be!! Bravo!!

However I'm still wondering what year this scene should be set in!! I mean regarding the 3 soldiers....how long would they be lying there...matching the Schwarzlose - brilliant rust effect, really impressive!!!!...but showing a very long exposure to the elements.

This date thing could prove quite tricky!!

You will find a way, I'm sure!!

Cheers

Hello Romain ,

the time period is the present time , like today a hundred years later. Imagine a battlefield that was suddenly abandoned and everything remained as it was , frozen in time.

The most important question is ? What would it look like if you explore the field ???That's what i'm trying to accomplish.

Regarding the fallen soldiers , it is just an idea and i have to find a proper solution ,like you said before.

A few years ago in Boezinghe (near the town of Ypres) diggers discovered the remains of two British soldiers. Wearing helmets and respirators and they had still there shoes on (intact) , everything else was gone.....

I must say that any human remains of any nationality wich is found is treated with most care and respect !

Greetings

Kurt

Yes it's me again .

I've spent a lot of time thinking to find a solution about how to show the fallen soldiers in a respectful way. I have finished one and this is the result ;

Very unusual concept. Never saw it done before(which is always nice).
I think your theme has been done very well so far.
Did you follow the recent "dig" just outside of Ypes? They found the old German and British trench lines and dug a wide trench across both lines, finding a lot of things still intact. Duck boards, armor plate for observers, human remains, etc. Very compelling show. You could probably find it on u-tube. Fascinating show.
