This is a fantastic looking build. I'm working on the same model. I don't think it will wind up looking as sweet. Two questions: who makes the brass machine gun? I remember buying one of these for a Panther tank yet can't remember the manufacturer. The tubing used to connect the discharge cannisters to the turret top, how did you do that? Dimensions and such?

Thank you.

Alex

Hi, Alex!
Thank you!
As for the questions: the machine gun is an Armorscale product, I bought on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-35-ARMORSCALE-K35-013-2-x-BARRELS-MG34-TANK-VERSION-/130784153898?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item1e7357d12a
On the other hand if you think of the orange tube, it made of 0,5 mm electric wire's insulation.

looking good Antal. Just finished my last build, so I'm starting the Tiger proper now. May have to get some of those barrels.

Thanks Antal.

Once again, great work. One other dumb question: the shackles for the towing chain. I have seen the ones offered by RB yet these don't look like them. What brand are these.

Thanks for letting me be a pest.

Be well.

You're welcome, Alex!
About the towing shackles: these are the RB Model's products, even if they do not resemble them.

Thanks, Rick. Somehow I forgot this...

Today I added the weld seams. My procedure: a thin styrene rod I glued to the surface with extra thin cement, and after the softening I pushed the sample with a modelling knife.

Hi Antal

What did you use to soften the styrene rod?

Thanks

Hi Andy!

I did use Tamiya extra thin cement, with which I "soaked" the surface and the rods.

Hi, Andy!

Actually I am also satisfied with result, because it was my first attempt to make welds.
Otherwise, you started your DAK Tiger project? Is it the same Tamiya kit? Pictures, please!!!

hi Antal

Yeah I've started quite a lot, but not finished anything really. This is where I'm at now.

I'm doing Tiger 121 on the return from Hunts gap, hence the very bent fenders

Nice work so far! It's more progress in lower hull than mine. Those fender creases are great!

Sorry to hijack this for one question ...Andy which PE set did you use to get the tops of the Fiefel air filters... I've only seen them included in a Voyager set that was over $100.00 dollars. This is holding up my early Das Reich Tiger build .

For $25 you can buy right now the Voyager PE35196 from Hobbyeasy.

I also have bought at this price approx. one year ago.
(Or does not interest you this kind of purchase?)

A great looking build, and quite helpful techniques. I am inquiring if it is necessary to change the front mantel. I have several versions of the Tiger early, mid, late. From both manufacturers. Thanks for the assistance and looking forward to more pictures displaying your handiwork.

Hi Antal

I was turning my attention to the upper hull. I'm putting down the clamps etc for the tow cables. I'm obviously mounting them 'backwards' in the african way.

My problem is that the Voyager set assumes the cables will be mounted with the main cable clips at the back, then one smaller clip at the front. What I'm doing (which is correct for the subject) is putting the main clips at the front. However David's insights tell me there are TWO small clips holding the cable to each side of the rear deck. So I need 4 smaller clips - but the Voyager set only includes 2.

I know you've got virtually identical after market gear as me, and are doing a similar subject. How are you getting around this?

I thought I had found a good fit for the right rear ammo box on 121, but it turns out to be too deep. See pic. Has anyone any suggestions for this. I'm quite keen to get this right as it was one of the 'features' of 121

Thanks

Andy

Forget what I asked about the ammo box. I've looked at my references with a magnifying glass and it looks as though the centre rear fender brace has been removed to accommodate the ammo box. (Unless anyone tells me different). my box is a perfect fit :-)

Hi Andy!
I scanned and circled the related parts of Voyager instruction sheets. I hope that's what you mean. The same colours mark the same clips.
I think the smaller ones would be the red circled clips, which are only two pieces in the kit. There is one solution: use clips of a remaining PE set. Luckily I have some PE's from other builds (Eduard, Voyager).
(Anyway I still have not started to build the upper hull.)

Hiya

Sorry to keep talking colour, I realise this topic has been talked to death! I've yet to start my project, but for the first time I want a clear plan in mind rather than letting it develop during the build.

I'm looking at Tiger 121 and trying to get a decent match for Ral 7008. Unfortunately my paint of choice is Tamiya which doesn't appear to have a direct match for Ral 7008. (I realise if I switched to Testors for example I could get an exact match, but I don't want to start buying multiple brands any more than I already have).

Anyway, I'm seeing Tamiya XF-49 Khaki as a pretty good match, perhaps lightened with a little Buff? Am I miles off beam with this? I'm intending hairspray chipping to a base coat of XF-63 German Grey

My only concern is that Khaki does seem a little dark to keep the colour in scale? And if I'm honest Tamiya Khaki does appear a lot darker than almost every rendition of of DAK Tiger I've seen! But I guess that doesn't necessarily make it wrong.

My other thought was to paint it a basic dark yellow then tint it with multiple subtle enamel filters until I was happy with the tint. However I would have to do that after hairspray chipping and it would also tint the german grey - it could easily turn out to be a big mess that way.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Ant - are you doing 121 now?

Thanks for your help

Andy

RAL 8000 Mix equal parts Tamiya Dark Yellow XF 60 and Flat Earth XF 52. Add Yellow Green XF 4 in about 1/3 of the previous total.

RAL 7008 use Tamiya Khaki XF 49 3 to 1 with Olive Drab XF 62.

RAL 8020 Equal parts Tamiya Buff XF 57 and Flesh XF 15.

RAL 7027 add a drop or two of Tamiya Knhaki XF to the above mix. Add a drop or two of Flat White if you think you need it.

Hi Ian/Ant

Thanks for the replies

Ian - I'll give those mixes a try. Until you replied I was thinking about asking again

Ant - I most admit I'd missed the parts you've labelled in red, mainly because they are so far away from the rest of the cable instructions. Problem still is that there are only two of them. I need 4 identical clips in total, two clips on each side of the engine deck. There are these that I've marked in blue here:-

But again, there are only two of them.

Thanks for your trouble guys, it's appreciated.

Andy, it is not possible that would be a "red" and a "blue" circled clip on each side? (Marked with 'x' and 'p' on the Voyager's sheet.)
Or am I wrong?
Anyway, a bit of strange this kit - or incomplete? The metal parts R72 and R10 are only two of them, but there are four pieces of resin (for the 'p' clips).
Not typical of Voyager, that would give any spare parts.

Antal

If you haven't done the tow cables yet be careful. Voyager don't give you much spare for reverse mounting.
