Thanks Kurt, for the belated wishes and no....no more cake left. I actually requested a apple turnover dessert as it reminds me of the Continental style of dessert that has much less sugar than out overly sweet stuff here.
And,in even better news!! The Third volumn in the "Duel in the Mist" series of spectacularly good history books has arrived in the USA as of yesterday(fri) and are being processed for shipment. Get'em while they last lads as the first book in the series is getting scarce and expensive.
Happy days!!

Scarce and expensive is right. I'm looking for the first book and I've seen them going for anywhere between $80 and $465 US dollars. I gotta get myself the first one, but I've gotta do some serious searching AND saving. The cover painting with the paras and panzer crewman would make aa great diorama too.

That is a great pic. It shows the entrence to Stoumont and the Robinson house is out of view to the left. A Panther was knocked out here and is shown on the famous footage that is always shown in every video pice about the Bulge.

I wish I could remember, but I'm no sure where I found it. I was in the 30th so I tend to collect anything I come across that relates to Old Hickory's battles but I'm not as organized as I should be when it comes to tracking references. If I can locate anything more specific I'll post it.
Sorry about the link, I couldn't get the images to show in the post.
Found it - there is a link from OldHickory30th.com to a page about the flak unit.

Ok cool. Good link. Lots of great info there on the Old Hickory Div.
I see you have the old Hammerhead Tow APC as your avatar. I was a crew member all the way up to Platoon Sergeant on the TOW for my first 9 years in the Army. Then spent the rest in the 82nd Abn.

Cool! I was a straight-leg 11B in the 29th (Inf. school) then 11H in the old M113 mounted version, then the M901. I actually liked the hammerhead, but that's probably because it seemed less likely to get me killed than the older version where we stood out in the open.
I spent plenty of time running around Bragg too when I ended up in the NC guard, lovely place. (sarcasm)
I've been lurking on this topic for a while and just wanted to compliment you on some really beautiful work in this and your other threads. I look forward to seeing it completed. I've wanted to do a dio for years of the flak wagon fighting beside the sanitorium but I have yet to get around to it...so many other things on the list!

Thanks Lee,for the kind remarks about my stuff. I just learned that 3 out of the 5 crew members for the flakvierling were killed during the battles at the Sanatorium. I got that from the new Duel in the Mist.
The new addition answers a lot of questions for me and as usual, leads me to want to learn more!!!!
Oh yes,did I mention that today I received the NEW DUEL IN THE MIST BOOK NUMBER THREE!!!!!!
WHA_HOOOOO!!!!!!
Just time so far for a quick leaf through but as usual,it doesn't dissapoint. Buy it now guys as this is the cheapest it will get probably.
Not affiliated in any way with the book, just very happy.

I'll have to snag a copy of the book then, I'd hate to see it climb to the price of the original one. I also read the fate of the 3 crewmen on the link provided. Kind of sad when you think of it. Regardless of what kind of person they may have been, they're still one of the iconic images of that chapter of WWII, and the fact that they only made it a few more days after that scene really speaks volumes about how intense the fighting was there.
I've got a Wirbelwing kit actually. If it wasn't in a half-completed wreck it would be cool to build it as that vehicle with the 3 men inside the turret.

I got some new toys and had to try them out. On the left is the WSS paint kit from Vallejo and the right has the AK set for Pea dot on the pants and winter oak leaf on the smock. All just base colors so far. I know I have a lot of stuff in the fire but wanted to see the difference in these sets right away.

Hi Jerry,
Unfortunately for me, I only have access right now to a hand held device - so, I can't really see what you've done! I thought to write anyway - your workbench must be overflowing with projects!!! You have a "new" "old" thread every few weeks! Awesome 😀 Keep em coming!
Cheers
Nick

This should be interesting. Funny, the last post on this thread is from almost exactly a year ago!

Thanks guys. I do seem to be getting worse with the modeling ADD. But really I just wanted to try these two new paint sets out. I have never before bought a paint set for a specific thing like these are made for. I always mixed my own paint. Maybe I am getting lazy in my old age?
So far I like the pigments in the AK set better but I like the base coat for the pea dot pattern better from Vallejo. It looks more ochre like the real uniforms I've seen.

Here is the guy with the AK paints being used. The basic cammo patterns are done with the pea dot on the trousers and the winter oak leaf on the smock. I like the quality of the paint but I think the pea dot may be too dark with the base color.
I like the colors on the smock. Maybe still a tad too dark with the base color??
I love their version of the rusty orange. Not too bright like on some figs I see. It should be subdued like this. Once again there is no mixing of paint here and all colors are straight from the bottles.

Used the Vallejo set on the squatting guy exclusively but used some other paints for various non=cammo parts. The dots are too big and I will have to re-paint them but I just wanted to check colors. I have to say over all I like the AK set better.
Not under such painful magnification and against the backdrop they don't look too bad.
At least, that's my story and I'm stickin to it.
