Paul,Jan,Chris and Ron,
You guys rock!! I need your inspiration to keep me going right now as this is usually about that time in a build when I loose interest and the project goes on the "Shelf of Doom".
I am finishing up the last fig and working out the lighting issues now before I build the shadow box enclosure.
Thanks again for the very motivating words guys!!

Got the last figure done almost. He needs some of the lightest highlites still I think.
I put him in the earlier version of the smock without the foliage loops. These were around till wars' end so I am safe.

Another shot with the light in a new position. It shows that just as in real life these colors changed in the light.

Thats a real good example of how complex camo schemes such as the Germans used can change depending on the light source, and indeed the direction of the light. I always seem to have a 'favorite bit' on your figures Jerry- usually a bit you nailed better than I've ever see before. And on this guy- the boots! The tread pattern is present and correct which is awesome but even better than that it is all congested with mud just as it would be- absolutely brilliant attention to detail!

Dale,Dave and Karl,
Thanks my friends for typing in some comments. I always appreciate that!
Yes,the mojo is slowly returning. Cleaning up the work area helped me I think,at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it!
Karl, thanks buddy. You always spot the "good stuff" but I cannot take credit for the shoes as they were out of the box like this from Dragon. Very nicely done. I did add clumps of mud and paint of course and some PE and foil on the leggings. I am liking the lead foil y straps and I am getting the hang of making them. They show more"umpf" I think? The d-rings are a bit too low I now realize. Better next time?
Plus I seem to recall now the spring clips on the helmet covers were covered with cloth, except at the very bottom. I will have to check that.Always good to review these cringingly magnified pics for these kind of errors.

Awesome! I'm convinced for sure. Gotta get that AK paint set. All of the figures in the Armored Reconnaissance set are in dot 44 and oak leaf camo, I can't wait to get painting on them. You set the bar too damn high hahaha. I'm gonna be trying to replicate your patterns for sure.

Thanks Buddy! Nice to hear.I still cringe when I see them under the merciless magnification though. The optivisor has helped me immensely.

I can't recommend those sets highly enough but they do take some practice as they are kindof thick. Also, remember my guys are all in the autumn /winter cammo and I think yours will be in summer? Although the dot ones would be the same.
I say that as you would need a different set of pints for the summer dudes.

Hi Jerry
Awesome work as usual And the idea for this is very original and realistic. Don't know if anyone else have already asked, but a guy climbing through a window, while another one's readying to throw in a grenade Hopefully there's a thick wall in between.
Looking forward to see this finished.

Jacob, it wouldn't make much difference to be honest apart from noise as German stick grenades were just blast with very little fragmentation and as interior walls then were usually double brick it would contain the blast without any problems to the room next door but obviously kill or wound the occupants of the target room. If it was something like a US pineapple or Mills bomb then the fragmentation would affect the room upstairs unless they'd sandbagged the floor.

Jerry, this just gets better and better. Really looking forward to seeing the final result. I hadn't realised AK did an SS set. Does it contain the right paints to do Peas pattern as I've never managed to match the right colours, therefore have never been 100% happy with the result. I recently bought the Vallejo Waffen SS camo set which is pretty good as it's got the right colours for both the Autumn and Summer reversable smocks. I've done a couple of figures in the Summer colours and was quite pleased with how they've come out. Hopefully practice will make perfect. The way you've painted yours is really top notch so with that in mind would it be possible for you to do a step by step article quoting paint numbers showing how you did it please? It's rare to find an article that gives a really effective technique broken down properly with colours pointed out. I know it's a big ask but it would be appreciated by 100's of us as SS camo patterns are some of the hardest patterns to duplicate and you've hit the nail on the head.

Dear Karl,

Osprey Modelling book #23, Modelling Waffen-SS Figures, by Calvin Tan, ISBN1-84176-837-5, gives some very reproducable techniques. Maybe it is usefull for you!?

Success.

Thanks for the kudos buddy,it always means a lot to me.
The building has one window per room so there is a thick wall between them. If you go back to the start of this thread there is a pic that shows one of my tank round hits is right at the meeting of the exterior and interior walls.
The tactic here is,suppressive fire with the MP44 followed by the grenade and right after the blast the entry team goes in hopefully while anyone around inside is still incapacitated? Plus,as Karl points out below, the stick grenade was almost all concussion.

I also have the Vallejo set and was never quite satisfied with the color matches. The plus with that set is it contains colors to do a multiple group of camm schemes. The AK sets are focused on one type. I have the winter/autumn set for smocks and the Erbsenmuster for pea dots. There is also a summer/spring set which was out of stock but I covet that one as well!!. These AK sets also have a quick tutorial on the back of the box and although the pics are kind of dark they do offer a very logical method for painting.
HTH and yes,Calvin Tan does have a great tutorial in that book,I have that also.
I usually resort to creating my own methods for painting anyway so books about it have never been big with me. I have three books that have superb color pics of guys wearing original WSS uniforms and I use those as a paint guide for the most part. I used to mix my own paint and eventually got the colors fairly close but why waste time when AK has it all set up? They even include dark and light shadow colors to adjust your shades with.
