With the 120mm mortar crew on board, the Israeli M3D halftrack is done! Figures add a much needed human element to armor models – I love the little guy covering his ears against the coming mortar blast!

Hi friends,
I've enlisted long time ago, but only now I'm able to start up.
This is the project: M48A3 Patton in IDF service, starting from my vintage (old) kit:
I'm not very expert about IDF tanks, but I'm really interested in, and I'm studing... So, according the infos, IDF used the M48A3 before the 6days war without modification (original gun and original commander cupola...).
This is basically my project...
Regards
Giovanni

Nice! I love that Tamiya M48A3 kit. Every time I see one on eBay I'm tempted.
Will you lower the suspension? It is quite high OOB.
I have the Revell M48A2 which i plan to do up in IDF colours. I'll follow your build with interest.
Cheers

Hi Matthew,
thanks for your kind message. I hope to have some time during this weekend.
Anyway, if you are interested into this baby, you MUST see this:

This guy made a lot of modifications and improvements. It is very interesting, for reference.

Great work on the chain and ball armor, Peter. Really a nice detail on this kit.

Thanks Jesper. It has alot of plastic and metal for your pound/euro etc etc. I added the Legend turret basket upgrade and bin upgrade, but I think it would have been fine OOB. The ball and chain armour was from the kit anyway, as the upgrade has flat PE. Some of the fiddly bits kept trying flying lessons and it took me ages to find them inn the carpet, but on the whole it has been an enjoyable build so far. More pics to follow the weekend.I am just trying to convince myself to not put it in a dio, but most of my builds end up in one lol. We will see.
Thanks again Jesper

Mine should be finished in time John. I have the weathering to do, but it won't be in a dio as I wished in time.
But if you guys decide on an extention and I have time I will do a base.

Pete- nice job, weathering looking good. Forgive my laziness, but whose ball and chain did you use?
Posted: Thursday, June 11, 2015 - 03:11 AM UTC
Thanks Russell. I used the Academy parts from the kit mate. The ones that came with the Legend upgrade were flat ball and just looked naff. It was a real ball (pun intended) breaker making them up, but worth the time. Them and the tracks were the most time consuming. Academy kits are nice kits, I have built a few and this one was as good as the rest. I would recommend this kit.

Does the kit come with the anti-skid or did you add it. If you added it, what did you use. Sorry you if covered this in your build but I'm to lazy to look through the thread. Thanks

Peter, what an interesting weathering on your job! Still watch it to finish.
And thank John for the extension.

Thanks for the comments guys. Anti skid comes as standard, it is moulded but looks convincing. I looked at plenty of IDF images and found a few that were a bit more battered and worn, and I think it looks close to the image I liked. A really nice kit to build, but not for the faint hearted lol. The ball and chain especially.

Pete- I'm currently building the Academy Merk4, and the ball and chain is flat PE with half-balls you have to shave off the sprue. It's not great, but I've failed twice at trying to do the Legends B&C, just don't have the manual dexterity any more. I'm about to dig into Meng's Merk3, with the molded plastic B&C, looks better that the Academy stuff.

Hi all,
As the Russel's occasion, with Academy Mk.IV.
At first, I'm interesting when modifying the barrel. It can be raised or lowered a little:
Next, I meet the troubles.
1. It takes so much time to fix these stuff. They're ugly.
2. And they touch the hull when the turret is fixed to the hull.
4 weeks for repairing this. I hope to finish it.
Cheers,
K.
