YEAH! Can you believe it? Very unusual for sure with me, but I have been planning this for a LOOOONG TIME!

I have the DRAGON Panther II and a Tamiya Panther G kit, Friul transport tracks, a Real Model turret, RB aluminum barrel & brake (if I use it), ET Model PE and chains, antenna, tow accessories. I might even look for some real metal steel road wheels... if they make such an animal.

I think I'm forgetting something!!


Anyway... I am serious about my Panthers!

HLJ has listings for quite a bit of aftermarket Panther stuff; resin mantlets, copulas, a couple wheels sets though none are metal.

Now if only they actually had that stuff in stock......

Mmmhhh either the ICM Beobachtungspanzer Panther :: Mobile Artillery Observation Panther or a Dragon Panther II.

Having already build a Panther A, D, Jagdpanther , G and F there's not many more Panther's in my stash left.

Personally didn't care for the ICM Beobachtungpanzer; the plastic is very weird and resists sanding.

I was surprised by the details though, they manged to mould very small (probably .5mm or less) wingnuts. And they actually had some threading detail on them as well.

Considering all the extra's Jeff has it's safe to say aftermarket is fairgame.

There's never a restriction on what can be added! As long as the 'base kit' is shown and AM parts are shown too one can kit bash to your hearts content.

I got that impression too when I used their Panther D as my base for the Coelian build. Just a different kind of plastic to say the least.

I'm still in with the Revell reboxing of the ICM Bergepanther. I figure all these Panthers will need a tow. I've got a E50 as well, but I don't know if I'll do a two-kit build for this one.

I just noticed this area on the Panther II rear deck. See how the vent area is much 'lower' than on the G version.



Looks like a little bit of work for me, even though I need to cut out DML's mistake of the raised fan section.

Also, in Jentz drawings he has the Panther II driver and co-driver hatches at an angle like the Panther D but if you look at this shot they look much like the G version hatches:



Anyone catch that?

Jeff,

Need to ask for approval of my plan. I am participating in the Operation Market Garden Campaign building a Panther G Early version and decided to build a dio for the tank. The motivation for this dio is the picture below.



What I would like to get approval for is the building of the second Panther G for this Dio. I am building Tank 311 for the OP Market Garden and want to build tank 314 for this campaign. Is that acceptable under the rules of this campaign?

I appreciate the consideration.

Seeing that the campaign has officially started,
I thought I would show you my contribution...
Dragon's panther f with voyager's PE set.


Having recently returned to the hobby after a looong break, I look forward to participating in the campaign and get some inspiration, tips and above all help ....my skills are a wee bit rusty i guess.

I haven't quite decided if I should build the panther in a middle/late 1945 time frame or drop all pretense and go for the full "what if" build...

So... WELCOME BACK to the hobby, Pard!

(I returned to this mess back in late 2008 after about 35 years off...) NOT quite like the old "riding bicycles never goes away" bit, but the good old stuff came back fast and I've picked up oodles of great new (to me) insights and techniques from all over these threads! The wealth and adventure await, Sir!

That's a great kit, IMHO - and a very cool subject, too. You should probably just plan from the start on going "full what-if", whatever that may mean (Panzer '46?), I think, as I don't believe any of these schmalturm F ever actually were completed or saw action. Far as I know, while a couple of schmalturm shells were built, they were never completed, as the optics were not fully-assembled by May 1945.

But so what? It's COOL and a great Panther, by me!

PS: This kitty hangs in my stash, too. As I don't yet have the roof armor nor those AA vent-armor bits (the things I think would have really gone onto this were it to have entered the war...) in PE, and I don't want to scratch them right yet... I'm going with a different kitty for this campaign. But there will be another on the Panther, so...!

Starter pictures. I'll be doing Revell's 1/35 Bergepanther. This is the rebox of the ICM kit. The kit depicts one of the original 12 Bergepanthers made by converting Panther Ds. It's a much simpler design than later production Bergpanthers.

All in all, it doesn't look to be a bad kit and should go together well. I'll probably add a few bits from the spares for stowage and crew. I'll probably get started on it this weekend.

I did that F kit a few years ago, the only thing I can say is... PERFECTION.
It's an amazing kit, details, fitting, tracks, metal gun, PE

I just wish I bought more at the time...

Started on my Jagdpanther this morning. As is typical of DML, quite a few extra bits, like final drive covers and drive sprockets from what I think is an 'F' and an extra ideler mount to replace the incorrect one. To bad it's to damn small.

I am worried now that I think of it, seeing as there are bits from an Ausf. F. I may need to measure the kit to see if this isn't some stupidly inaccurate Panther II/ F based Jagdpanther. It is an old DML kit so you never know.

Bob, I ended up buying that book we discussed. For whatever reason the copy I found online that I pulled my picture from shows up as that 'almost-oxidrot' but the physical copy does indeed show it's normal brown. It's a very nice book and goes along well with Panzer Tracs.

Hello all.

Had a nice cloudy and rainy day here in the bluegrass so I got a nice start on the Atak zimmert. Unfortunately I bought the wrong set for the Panther kit, but I will make it work.

I've used the Atak zim in the past and really liked the results. The casts are paper thin and the fit is excellent.
